Chapter 252 What’s Your Relationship with President Nangong?

Left with no choice under Mu Yang’s persistent demands, Lin Zifeng had to follow the two women to the company’s cafeteria.

For multinational corporations like Tianyu Group, the cafeteria is also tiered, divided into three levels, and the lowest level is undoubtedly meant for the low-level employees to dine in.

Originally, Lin Zifeng should have been eating on the lower level, but now, after being promoted by Nangong Bing, combined with the status of the beauty before him, Lin Zifeng finally got to eat on the second floor, a rare treat indeed.

All along the way, employees from all over the company couldn’t help but steal glances, seeing Lin Zifeng trailing behind two women, their envy, jealousy, and hatred could hardly be overstated.

Of course, there were also many who envied his romantic encounter.

If they knew him, it was one thing, but for those who didn’t recognize him, their treatment was different, and there was much speculation.

Lin Zifeng just shrugged his head, not uttering a word, leaving the two beauties in front to tease each other.

It was only after reaching the second floor that Lin Zifeng realized what ’privilege’ meant.

The difference between the food he normally had on the first floor and this was like heaven and earth. It was clear that a working meal could be made so rich, which makes one realize that the system of Tianyu Group really isn’t that popular.

”Come, let’s sit here,” Mu Yang said, pulling Zhang Xixi’s hand towards a seat near the window.

Turning her head to a head-shrugging Lin Zifeng, she teased with a smile, ”What’s wrong? You don’t seem very happy?”

”...”

Lin Zifeng was speechless. Was him hanging his head bothering her? It was just being low-key to avoid misunderstandings later.

After the three of them sat down, Mu Yang, with the air of a big sister, stood up and walked to the cafeteria’s display case, ordering lunch from the master chef, while Zhang Xixi sat quietly across from Lin Zifeng, not saying a word. As for Lin Zifeng, sitting face-to-face with such a beautiful woman for the first time, he felt somewhat uneasy.

Furthermore, there had been some minor, melodramatic ambiguities between them before.

Even during work in the recent days, Lin Zifeng tried as much as he could to avoid any contact with Zhang Xixi, not wanting to bother her, as this girl had given him an impression of being very down-to-earth and kind-hearted.

Apart from giving a few pointers at work, she was almost silent all day long.

Yet, now they were sitting together again.

Lin Zifeng sat there, fiddling with his fingers, pretending to be nonchalant, his mind unsure of how to face the situation.

In the end, it was Zhang Xixi who took the initiative to speak to him, ”Is your work going smoothly? If there’s something you don’t understand, you can come and ask me when you’re free. I’ll try to give you more guidance at work.”

Uh, girl, if you really want to find a topic to break through the awkwardness between us, feel free to bring up any topic for us to chat about. But by bringing up work, Lin Zifeng felt his head getting bigger.

Ever since he reported to the finance department, it seemed like he had always been left with nothing to do, just being kept, spending his days playing games and sleeping without much else to do, right?

”Hehe, thank you, Director Zhang. Don’t worry, if there’s a chance to trouble you, I definitely won’t hold back, I’m just afraid Director Zhang, with your multitude of daily tasks, won’t take to heart such trivial matters concerning a small fry like me.”

To ease the tension between them, Lin Zifeng started to joke around with her.

Zhang Xixi opened her mouth, paused for a few seconds, and then replied, ”How can you think like that? We’re all colleagues from the same company, and members of the financial department. We’re bound to cross paths with work matters now and then. If you really have any troubles you can’t deal with, feel free to come to me any time.”

Lin Zifeng was joking, but Zhang Xixi took it seriously. The speaker was unintentional, but the listener was intentional.

”Uh, this, well, heh heh. Director Zhang, I was just kidding with you. Please don’t take it to heart, okay? I was just teasing you a moment ago. What kind of trouble could I possibly bring to you? I’m always free at the company, idle and unoccupied. Apart from loafing around waiting for the end, there’s nothing much I can do. If Director Zhang ever thinks highly of me, feel free to find me anytime. I’ve got nothing but time on my hands.”

Lin Zifeng chuckled with his chopsticks as he bantered with Zhang Xixi.

Director Zhang’s face turned slightly red.

But she maintained her composure, her red lips releasing a sweet fragrance as she said, ”If I may ask so boldly, what is your relationship with, with President Nangong?”

Zhang Xixi became a bit nervous. When asking about the relationship between Lin Zifeng and Nangong Bing, her heart twisted up, fearing she might inadvertently upset him.

She also knew that Lin Zifeng’s ability to move around the finance department, and to have his own office where he spent his days playing games and reading online novels, must have something to do with a complicated relationship with Nangong Bing. Otherwise, how could Tianyu Group let a mere security guard rise so quickly to such a position overnight?

And to become Zhang Xixi’s assistant? Spending his days doing nothing but eating and waiting for clock-out time—who would believe that?

Lin Zifeng took out a cigarette, smiling as he said, ”Actually, there’s not much to it. It’s just that our parents from the older generation, her father had some connection with my father, so thanks to some backdoor influence, I managed to get in here. Otherwise, with my bear-like appearance, sitting in this position would be complete nonsense!”

Lin Zifeng knew he couldn’t hide it, so he simply used the excuse Nangong Bing had discussed with him beforehand at home.

This way, it seemed somewhat more believable and wouldn’t stir up a storm in the city.

”Oh.”

Zhang Xixi didn’t display the shocked expression he’d expected. Instead, she hummed softly, her head bowed, silent as if pondering something.

”What’s wrong? You don’t look down on me, do you? Seeing that I climbed up through connections, you must think less of me, right?” Lin Zifeng laughed.

”No, no, you’ve got it wrong. That’s not what I meant. Actually, I was thinking...”

Before Zhang Xixi could finish her sentence, Lin Zifeng was looking at her with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile, making her face instantly heat up. She couldn’t even finish what she was saying.

”What, what are you looking at?”

Zhang Xixi’s fair face turned a deep red.

As a genuine rural girl, Zhang Xixi had finished university through hard work and part-time jobs. Within less than a year of working, she was promoted by Nangong Bing to her current position. Although she now had a certain luster, she still carried that honest, rural girl mindset deep down.

Modest, shy, green, kind... All the good qualities one could find were reflected in her. If Zhang Xixi had graduated just a few years later, she would have easily been the dazzling belle of the university, with probably a whole strengthened platoon of admirers. Moreover, Zhang Xixi was indeed very beautiful, even more so than Mu Yang.

Mu Yang was beautiful not for her looks but for the mature charm she embodied.

And yet, Zhang Xixi’s face blushed from a mere teasing glance from Lin Zifeng.
