Chapter 214: When Weird Things Happen, There Must Be a Demon

After last night’s fumbling, Hua Buqi and Meng Youjing woke up unusually late today. It was around ten o’clock when Meng Youjing’s phone finally rang.

Looking at the unfamiliar number displayed, Meng Youjing, still groggy, casually combed her hair and asked softly, ”Hello, who is this?”

”What is going on with you guys? You’ve been in Macau for several days now, and our partners are getting anxious. Why haven’t you discussed the contract yet?”

A middle-aged man’s voice came from the other end of the phone. From the tone, one could tell that the middle-aged man was quite displeased, even a bit angry.

”Boss, it’s not what you think. We’ve run into major trouble here with the partners in Macau....”

”I don’t care. If you mess up this cooperation, you can stop being an agent altogether. I will hire a more qualified agent for Hua Buqi by offering a large sum. I’m giving you three days; if you haven’t settled the contract by then, don’t bother coming back.”

After finishing speaking, the person on the other end hung up without giving any chance to argue.

Meng Youjing just wanted to finish her sentence but was cut off, and upon hearing the beeping sound on the phone, she reluctantly set the phone aside with a sense of discontent.

As an agent at Zhongxing Entertainment, who could understand the secrets and grievances hidden in her heart?

The reason Meng Youjing insisted on keeping Hua Buqi was not only to satisfy her own vanity but more for her personal interests. After all, she had struggled to reach this position, and losing it suddenly would be painful for anyone.

The entertainment circle is not like ordinary large or small businesses outside; how dark and murky it really is, probably only she knows. Even the background of the boss at Zhongxing Entertainment might be darker than what one can imagine.

Nowadays, most of the so-called entertainment industry is just a way for former big bosses to launder money, being able to both promote newcomers to fame and simultaneously reap profits. Why wouldn’t they do it?

”Meng sister, why did you get up so early today?”

At that moment, the young girl by her side finally woke up. Feeling the absence of her companion, she couldn’t sleep and touched the empty bedsheet next to her; the young girl was shocked for a moment, fearing her beloved Meng sister had suddenly disappeared.

”No, nothing. Huahua, you’re awake?”

Meng Youjing was lost in a myriad of thoughts, seemingly contemplating something as she sat quietly on the bed, her arms resting on her legs and her eyes full of melancholy staring out the window, as if harboring endless secrets.

”I’ve been awake for a while.” The young girl rubbed her sleepy eyes, saw Meng Youjing’s gloomy expression, and immediately felt a pang of heartache. Over the years, the young girl had grown up without a mother, and her only father was a workaholic who had been busy working and had sent her abroad for schooling since she was little.

Finding what she loved to do wasn’t easy, yet she was alone. She met Meng Youjing during an audition, and the two women became as close as sisters, always together. Through Meng Youjing’s efforts, and Huahua’s talent, they both achieved their current success,

But now, new difficulties presented themselves. She knew how hard Meng Youjing had worked to train her, but if it meant doing disgraceful scenes with male actors,

the young girl would absolutely refuse, even if it meant she wouldn’t become famous or her career as an artist ended. She would never trade her dignity for so-called fame and fortune.

The young girl had always viewed things broadly, so she didn’t cling much to the concept of money, but Meng Youjing was different. She was an immensely career-driven woman, especially in the entertainment industry—practically a workaholic. Over the years, the young girl’s fame could largely be attributed to her efforts.

”Meng sister, what’s wrong?” Seeing some dampness at the corners of Meng Youjing’s eyes, the young girl, not being foolish, immediately sensed the turmoil in her heart and became somewhat anxious.

”Oh! It’s nothing. I just remembered some things I shouldn’t have.”

Meng Youjing forced a smile, but in reality, she desperately wanted to confide her inner turmoil to someone. However, being virtually alone in Zhonghai City, she had to rely solely on herself for everything. The memory of the Sea Star Media Company boss trying to exploit her sexually a few days ago naturally made her feel awful.

The entertainment industry is very cruel, and sexual exploitation is hardly an uncommon issue.

”Sister Meng, you are deceiving me again. We’ve been together for so long, how could I not know your every move? Sister Meng, just speak out. Huahua will certainly help you solve your troubles. Even if Huahua can’t solve them, don’t we still have that beastly uncle?”

When she said these words, Hua Buqi almost subconsciously blurted them out.

Upon hearing Huahua suddenly mention Lin Zifeng, her neck tightened instantly, and a flicker of emotion passed through her eyes.

”Him?”

Meng Youjing found it incredible. At such a critical moment, the young girl actually thought of him first. She knew all too well how terrible he was. Asking for his help would be like a Death God drinking poison, a recipe for disaster.

”What’s wrong? Sister Meng, isn’t the beast here? Why not seek his help?”

The young girl blinked her eyes, looking at her with a somewhat puzzled expression; her big, watery eyes pure and innocent, making even Meng Youjing, gazing into those naive eyes, feel deceived.

After the two women talked in the room for an hour, Lin Zifeng finally got up.

Standing in front of the window, he deeply inhaled a cigarette and organized his emotions, his icy face struggling to muster a slight, relaxed smile.

It wasn’t until noon that the three of them went to the production company together.

As soon as he climbed the stairs, Lin Zifeng noticed that this so-called production company was vastly different from a standard company.

Essentially, the employees up and down the company were of a lazy disposition, with no corporate atmosphere whatsoever. Most exaggeratedly, the office openly allowed gambling!

Although Macau is one of the four major Gambling Cities in the world, it shouldn’t be to this extent.

Seeing the cigarette butts and thick smoke all over the ground, Lin Zifeng’s brow unconsciously furrowed.

Especially the female staff of this company, who were dressed like the ladies from local hair salons, garishly dressed and sexually appealing, typical of a low-tier production company. It was unclear how the owner managed the company. Could this be what they call an ethical company?

Were they supported by his old martial arts world friends and brothers?!

Walking to the reception with the two women, they immediately attracted the attention of numerous lecherous men. Some even boldly whistled and openly harassed them, no wonder they insisted on waiting for him to come.

It seemed abnormal, there must be demons at work.

”Excuse me, is your boss Mr. Zhang in?”

Meng Youjing asked in a very polite tone.

The receptionist was holding a makeup mirror, casually applying makeup on her face, which was heavily plastered like a white wall. Her slightly curled blonde hair resembled an African wild lion Lin Zifeng had once seen. The uglier it was, the uglier it got.
