Chapter 223: If You’re There, Make a Sound

”Hehe, I’ll buy you another cup later.”

After Lin Zifeng swallowed the last piece of chicken, he smirked at Hua Buqi.

”Hey! Hey! Hey! I’m saying, Lin, are you listening to my phone call? Are you bullying Huahua again?”

Upon hearing that Huahua had been taken advantage of, Nangong Bing’s beautiful eyebrows furrowed even more. In the spacious CEO’s office, as she gazed out at the scenery through the one-way glass wall, Nangong Bing even wondered whether sending Lin Zifeng to help Huahua was the right or wrong decision, God knows if this beast would bully Huahua, especially since the girl had just come of age.

”Uh, Boss, what do you mean by bullying Huahua? You make it sound like I’m some kind of villain. Is my image really that unbearable in your eyes, Boss?”

Image? Unbearable?

You still have an image? With the way you look now, what image is there to speak of? Nangong Bing laughed, and it was a cold laugh at that.

Talking with this animal is actually quite a pleasant thing.

”Lin, stop beating around the bush with irrelevant issues, I’ve got some serious business for you. Be serious, I don’t have time to joke around with you.”

Nangong Bing said softly.

”I’ve always been serious, okay? It’s you who keep saying I’m not.” Lin Zifeng muttered under his breath, then spoke in a much more serious tone than before, ”Come on, Boss, what is it that you can’t solve? Maybe I can still lend you a hand.”

Nangong Bing thought for a moment, then decided to tell Lin Zifeng the whole story. It was about the complete network disruption throughout the company, as well as the mess caused by the hacker’s attack on the programs.

Listening to Nangong Bing’s vivid narration, Lin Zifeng’s brows gradually became more furrowed.

After all, the company’s domain name being attacked likely meant it was the work of Tianyu Group’s business rivals; otherwise, given the average hacker’s ability, it would be difficult to crack, at least not the Tianyu Group’s domain name, without substantial economic backing to cause this kind of system collapse.

Moreover, if this attack on the company’s domain name was the hacker’s doing, it seemed he wouldn’t obtain any valuable information, right?

So, within just a few seconds, Lin Zifeng thought of another possibility.

”Boss, don’t panic now. This time our security system was lax in one spot. I’ll head back to Zhonghai City tonight to solve this incident for you. Tonight, send me our company’s domain name, and I’ll block the domain for two days so we can minimize the company’s losses. Also, Boss, don’t sit idle tonight. You should prepare and bring in more network engineers, especially those experienced with programming. I think you should know this better than I do. Try to appease all of our group’s international clients...”

Lin Zifeng’s resolute face became utterly serious at this moment, from his demeanor to the tone of his voice, as if he had completely transformed into a different person.

Even Meng Youjing and Huahua sitting at the same table were staring at him, mouths agape in shock.

Isn’t he awesome? Is this guy still the beastly uncle I know?

These highly specialized terms, he rattled them off as if reciting them from memory. Could it be that he used to be a big tycoon in business?

It doesn’t make sense. Just a minor security guard, no matter how exceptional, couldn’t possibly know so much. Even my own cousin probably doesn’t know as much as he does.

The two women exchanged glances, both looking at Lin Zifeng with a significantly different expression on their faces.

It wasn’t just them who were taken aback. Even Nangong Bing on the other end of the phone was shocked at Lin Zifeng’s belief in not stopping until he shocked others.

Is this truly what he just said?

Especially some of the business tactics and perfect strategies Lin Zifeng mentioned afterward, even Nangong Bing felt that her years of studying market economics overseas were a total waste.

Turns out, her understanding was not even at the level of a mere security guard.

”Boss, are you listening? Boss! If you’re still there, just make a sound.”

”Ah!?” Nangong Bing suddenly snapped back to reality, ”What do you mean make a sound? Why do you speak so unpleasantly? Have all the nice words turned sour in your mouth?”

”My gosh, I’ve been talking to you for so long and apparently, you haven’t heard a thing. All my great ideas wasted,” Lin Zifeng sighed deeply, his voice grave, ”Let’s just wait until I get back.”

”...?”

Am I that dumb? Who, who said you just said so much and I didn’t understand? I was just contemplating and didn’t want to refute your points, so I let you talk on and on.

Nangong Bing, proud by nature, felt her cheeks redden immediately upon Lin Zifeng’s words, as if she couldn’t live without someone surnamed Lin in her life.

”Lin, I don’t care now. This incident should originally be managed by your Security Department. Now that the company is in trouble, you as a member of the Security Department, need to take responsibility and duty for all of this. But considering what you just said made sense, I was planning to address the troubles caused by your Security Department, but now looking at you, you seem to have a pretty solid plan, so I’ll leave this matter for you to handle. If the company’s domain network is still the same in two days, don’t blame me, Nangong Bing, for being heartless then.”

While saying these words, Lin Zifeng even wondered whether this woman had forgotten her medication today or what?

The company domain website forum being attacked by commercial hackers, what does this have to do with the Security Department! Even if the blame is to be pushed back ten thousand steps, it should chiefly lie with the IT department, right? Why is it being dumped onto the heads of the Security Department? It’s clearly because they see that our department is understaffed, so they’re just throwing the blame on us.

Lin Zifeng really wasn’t buying it this time.

He quickly retorted, ”Boss, what kind of logic and theory from which empire are you using? It’s clearly the newly established IT system engineering within the company that had flaws. How can you dump such a big mess on our Security Department?”

As he spoke, Lin Zifeng also adopted a righteous indignation stance. It was just short of directly saying: You’ve tricked one of me, but there are thousands and millions of me. After all, we all receive the same salary in this company, so why should the Security Department play the cannon fodder role?

”Can you, can you not be so agitated? Actually, I, I didn’t mean it like that.”

Nangong Bing really wanted to clarify it directly with Lin Zifeng, but was too embarrassed to say it outright.

”Ah, forget it, who makes us employees under others? You want their money, they want your life even more.”

”Hey hey hey! Lin, don’t talk nonsense. When did I ever say I wanted your life? I’m simply giving you a very important task, you’re capable enough for it; this is about employing everyone to their strength and making up for the shortcomings.”

”Why don’t you say my monthly fixed salary of 3000, and doing tasks way beyond those of a security guard, are getting great value for money?” Lin Zifeng said earnestly.

”You! How can you say that? Didn’t you ask for a promotion last time, and I agreed? You’re now in the Finance Department, which is a bit better than Security, after all. And since you don’t want to work in Security, you should show some real skills instead of just relying on connections and backdoors to get things done.”
