Chapter 222: Even Eating a Chicken Butt Can Get You Shot

”What, what kind of joke is this!” Lin Zifeng picked up a crispy fried chicken rib and stuffed it into his mouth, his cheeks bulging as he said indistinctly, ”How is that possible? With an uncle’s appearance like mine, how could I possibly be a threat to someone else’s daughter?”

”Besides, aren’t I sitting right next to you two beauties? If there’s someone to charm, it should be you two.”

At this point, the guy had shaken off his earlier gloominess, his mouth stuffed full with fried food. Moreover, the young girl had just asked him if he wanted a drink, to which he very politely and gentlemanly replied no. He always scorned such junk food, yet now he was gulping down the Coca-Cola that the young girl had brought, unapologetically drinking glass after glass, his mouth full of the chicken legs and other foods he had just taken, which annoyed the young girl enough to pout in dismay.

However, upon hearing Lin Zifeng’s compliment, the young girl’s heart melted a bit. After all, wasn’t it somewhat gratifying for any woman to be praised?

After all, Hua Buqi and Meng Youjing were indeed not bad-looking. They had the looks, they had the figures, and could be considered top beauties in Zhonghai City, right?

”Why can’t eating shut you up?”

The young girl teased him with a laugh.

”Hehe, I’m just telling the truth. Tell me, was I wrong just now?”

Lin Zifeng grinned and chuckled, his wily eyes sweeping a few glances over Meng Youjing, causing her lovely face to turn red.

”Alright then, since you’re being so honest, uncle, this chicken leg is your reward.”

Hearing Lin Zifeng’s praise, the young girl couldn’t hide her delight. She picked up a chicken leg from her box and placed it in front of Lin Zifeng.

Lin Zifeng didn’t play coy, grabbing the chicken leg and devouring it wholeheartedly, not caring about the looks they were giving him. He ate like he hadn’t had a meal in centuries, attracting the stares of passing customers. When they saw Hua Buqi and Meng Youjing, many internally exclaimed at their lucky encounter. But when their gazes shifted to Lin Zifeng, their brows furrowed more painfully than an onion could induce.

At a table not far from the trio, three sleazy men were eyeing them with burning gazes. Seeing Lin Zifeng flirting with the two women in the restaurant made them ache with envy.

They wished they could howl to the heavens. What kind of world was this, where even a loser like him could be out with two gorgeous women, while the three of them were miserably single? They say all the fresh greens are rooted out by pigs, and apparently, that was no lie.

After eating for about a few minutes, the young girl’s cell phone suddenly rang. She saw the number displayed and was slightly taken aback, for it was her cousin Nangong Bing calling.

The young girl scratched her forehead, pouting her cute and sexy lips as she said, ”Huh? Why is my cousin calling me?”

Based on what she knew of her cousin, Nangong Bing rarely called her; she usually communicated via email. The young girl seldom used her phone, only carrying one for emergencies when traveling. Otherwise, why would a celebrity not always have a manager or similar to handle calls? Private contact information was generally not shared; if caught by paparazzi, who knew what stories they could spin?

While scandals among celebrities were somewhat similar, the negative impact was no small matter. Unless you were an international megastar, an average celebrity could end up in a real tragedy.

”Hello, cousin, what’s brought you to call Huahua today? I’ve only been out a few days, do you miss me already?”

The young girl sipped her cola with a look of enjoyment.

”Huahua, are you still in Macau? When are you coming back?”

An anxious voice came through the phone from Nangong Bing, clearly facing some big trouble she couldn’t handle alone.

”What’s wrong, cousin? Meng Jiejie, that beastly uncle, and I are still in Macau. We’ll probably play for a couple more days before we head back.”

As Lin Zifeng, who was still busy eating, suddenly saw Hua Buqi looking at him, he became a bit puzzled, mumbling through a mouthful of food, ”What’s up? You need me for something?”

”Is your issue resolved? Is, is that Lin guy with you?”

At that moment, Nangong Bing was sitting in her office, staring at the latest forum information on her computer screen. Her normally delicate and pale cheeks were almost blushing bloody red, especially every time she browsed a webpage and saw a myriad of objectionable messages that twisted Nangong Bing’s beautiful face into a knot.

The whole company’s network had fallen prey to a hacker’s attack. Almost every time a webpage was opened, it turned out to be filled with inappropriate content and pornography. The Tianyu Group’s numerous forums and customer communication platforms were also attacked, making it impossible to open the webpages.

The entire company nearly plunged into panic. The importance of a corporate group’s domain name can well be imagined. If it were to be attacked and collapsed by hackers, the consequences were unthinkable. When clients clicked on Tianyu Group’s domain, they were met with pornography and a slew of messy information. What would others think? Could it be that the large and reputable Tianyu Group was some sort of sham?

”Is the domain company you developed just a third-rate small URL?”

”You should know that most of Tianyu Group’s web pages are aligned with international trade, with daily visits reaching millions of PC values! Such a huge number of visits is even more terrifying than those of ordinary small URLs.”

”If it were so easily hacked, Tianyu Group would face a new commercial storm.”

The IT department had been recently established by Nangong Bing and was still in its trial phase, yet the website domain that had been around for several years was now facing such a blow. Barely over a month in, and with such a crisis at hand, Nangong Bing, the highest director of Tianyu Group, simply couldn’t sit idly by.

In a single day, Nangong Bing was frantically busy, with countless board meetings both big and small, and who knows how many people being sought after for the top-level network management system. Even renowned network engineers in Zhonghai City were at their wits’ end with Tianyu Group’s network programs.

So, Nangong Bing’s first thought was Lin Zifeng. She was more in the mindset of ’giving it a try,’ aware of the capabilities Lin Zifeng had shown these days, which truly astonished her. Seeing no other option, it was like trying to revive a dead horse as if it were alive. If he couldn’t fix it upon returning, then there would indeed be no other choice. Nangong Bing was someone who wouldn’t give up until the very last moment.

Therefore, even with a gamble-like attitude, she had to recover the losses incurred by the company as much as possible, or at least minimize them. As the highest director of Tianyu Group, she had the right to oversee all matters of the company that touched on its interests, and it was her duty to take up this responsibility.

”Him? Yeah, he’s right here, munching on a chicken’s butt across from me, grease all over his mouth.”

Hua Buqi covered her mouth and giggled, carrying on a chat with Nangong Bing. Why does she always have to take the opportunity to mock Lin Zifeng?

He felt puzzled, thinking to himself, am I getting shot even while sitting here eating a chicken’s butt?

”Huahua, get Mr. Lin on the phone, I have something urgent to discuss with him,”

It was clear from Nangong Bing’s tone over the phone that she had something very important to discuss with Lin Zifeng, otherwise, she wouldn’t sound so incredibly anxious.

With her classy and aloof demeanor, Nangong Bing wouldn’t frown without a sky-falling reason. This is the foundation and temperament cultivated from growing up in a treasured family.

”Beast, your cousin is looking for you,”

Seeing the delicious spread almost entirely devoured by Lin Zifeng, the girl was more anxious than anyone. If she didn’t act fast, she feared she’d be left with nothing but scraps.

”She’s looking for me?”

Lin Zifeng paused, puzzled as to why Nangong Bing would need him.

Why would a transnational CEO need a security guard like him, earning just over three thousand a month?

With a head full of questions and his mouth stuffed with food, Lin Zifeng mumbled unclearly, ”What’s up boss? Is there a problem?”

Lin Zifeng spoke indistinctly, sounding somewhat reluctant to talk to Nangong Bing.

Instantly, Nangong Bing’s brows tightened on the other end of the phone, her fair face showing a hint of feigned anger.

The very question he asked was quite interesting.

How could he not realize that I’m the highest director of Tianyu Group, and there are almost endless queues of people wanting to call me? And here you are, a lowly security guard, with neither money nor power, speaking to me in such a tone? Don’t you feel honored that I’m calling you? You must understand that I’m your immediate superior and boss. Even the cost of your living expenses comes from the salary I pay you each month. Without me, who knows, you might be wandering around bare-butt, looking for work to get by.

”Yo, hey, Mr. Lin, got a bit too cocky, have we? Power gone to your head, eh? Could it be you’re not happy when I, Nangong Bing, give you a call?”

Nangong Bing chuckled lightly on the other end of the line, but to Lin Zifeng’s ears, it sounded like a series of sneers, scaring him into quickly gulping down the last piece of chicken. Fortunately, there was a cup of cola nearby, or he would have surely choked.

”Uncle, why are you stealing my cola!”

Seeing Lin Zifeng snatch the cola from the table and gulp it down, the girl immediately protested.

She hadn’t even touched her cola yet, and there he was, stealing her drink; what was this madness?
