After rejecting my celebrity husband

Chapter 769: Chapter 773: The Handprint on the Mud Doll

This mud doll had been placed here for quite some time now; it was the only decorative item on his desk, aside from the usual office supplies.

Whenever he felt tired from work or when he was in a foul mood, he would habitually take the doll in his hand and fiddle with it.

This time was no exception.

Looking at the doll’s bright smiling face, Leng Zimo’s mood improved considerably.

However, speaking of which, who had given him this thing?

Every time he looked at the doll, this question would arise, and of course, he could never think of the answer.

Gently touching the doll’s little face with his fingertips, he casually spun the doll between his fingers, playing with it.

Catching a glimpse of a red imprint at the bottom of the doll out of the corner of his eye, Leng Zimo slightly raised his eyebrows, then rotated the doll towards himself to view the base.

The base of the doll was unpainted, the white of its original color highlighted by a bright red handprint.

The handprint wasn’t big, oval-shaped, and seemed to be from a thumb.

Leng Zimo held up his right hand, aligning his thumb with it.

The print was smaller than his thumb, not seeming like a man’s handprint.

”A woman’s finger?”

Leng Zimo’s brows furrowed once again. Could this be a gift from a woman?

That couldn’t possibly be right; the office was an extremely important place to him. For an item to receive his approval and be placed on his desk, it had to be sufficiently significant in relation to his work. No woman had ever been that important in his life, so how could a woman’s item end up on his office desk?!

He certainly wouldn’t buy such a thing himself, so who had given it to him?!

Leng Zimo pressed the intercom once more, and soon, an assistant walked in.

”Do you know who gave this to me?”

The assistant shook her head gently. ”I remember the day I started working here, this thing was already on your desk.”

”How many years have you worked at Emperor View?”

”Four years.” The assistant glanced at his face. ”Should I ask someone else?”

”No need,” Leng Zimo waved her off, ”go back to work.”

This assistant was, in his memory, the one who had worked with him the longest; if she didn’t know, it was certain that no one else would.

After some thought, Leng Zimo picked up the phone on the desk and dialed Ailin’s number.

Soon, Ailin answered the call.

”President Leng, this is Ailin.”

”How have you been recently?”

”There’s still a month until my due date, I’m at the hospital waiting for a prenatal checkup,” Ailin’s voice was filled with the happiness of an expectant mother, ”Do you need anything?”

Leng Zimo glanced at the mud doll in his hand, ”Do you know about the mud doll on my desk?”

”The one dressed in Tang attire, the girl doll? What about it?” Ailin asked.

”I want to know if you’re aware of who gave me that doll.” Leng Zimo frowned, a hint of irritation in his tone, ”I’ve thought about it for a long time and can’t remember who gave it to me.”

”Oh, that...” Ailin hesitated for a moment on the phone, ”You bought it yourself.”

”I bought it myself, but why can’t I remember it?”

”You must be too tired from work recently. If the situation permits, you should rest more. Work is endless, but your health is most important, isn’t it? I’m really sorry, President Leng, I need to go in for my examination now, shall we talk later?”

...

...

There will be an explanation for why Ailin lied in the future.
