Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

”...” Anne Sutton’s hand, still holding her phone, froze at her side. Nathan Fawcett was kissing her, his movements uncharacteristically gentle, making her heart race uncontrollably.

Anne Sutton was dazed from the kiss. ’Men really are animals who think with their dicks,’ she thought.

’He clearly has no feelings for me, yet he’s kissing me so earnestly.’

’It’s as if we’re two people deeply in love!’

Anne Sutton was pushed back onto the bed. Nathan Fawcett was still kissing her when a phone suddenly rang.

He frowned, lifted his head, and picked up his phone to answer the call.

”Uncle,” came Charles Prescott’s voice. ”Have you seen the news online? We need to have a meeting tomorrow. Are you free?”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”I don’t have time. I’m staying home to be with your aunt tomorrow.”

”...” ’The two words, ”your aunt”... Was he saying that just to spite me?’

Charles Prescott stiffened, but the company’s business was more important right now. He said, ”Then I’ll come over to your house. I have something I need to discuss with you.”

His tone was very respectful.

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Suit yourself.”

Then he hung up.

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett. Her face was flushed from their kiss as she lay on the bed, watching him.

”That was Charles Prescott,” Nathan Fawcett said. ”He said he’s coming over tomorrow.”

”What for?”

”Company business,” Nathan Fawcett said. ”I’m curious to see what he has to say.”

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, ”Even though he’s called the police now, this whole incident must have really scared him. And you know what? Today I saw that woman, Grace, has become Charles Prescott’s assistant.”

”Grace?”

”The girl whose position was taken by Yvonne Evans. She’s working for Charles Prescott now, as his assistant. She was with us the whole time when Charles and I went to see my dad today.”

Nathan Fawcett looked at her. ”And?”

Anne Sutton said, ”He just can’t leave a pretty girl alone! Any woman who’s even halfway decent, he ends up hitting on her. He’s such a scumbag! He probably thinks it makes him look so charming. All these years, and he hasn’t changed one bit.”

Just talking about it made Anne Sutton furious.

’I really can’t stand a scumbag like Charles Prescott!’

Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett remarked, ”Women all like his type.”

”Well, I don’t,” Anne Sutton retorted.

Nathan Fawcett watched her angry expression and said, ”Actually, you care about him a great deal.”

”...”

His words silenced Anne Sutton.

Anne Sutton looked at him. ”Time for bed,” Nathan Fawcett said.

Anne Sutton watched him get into bed and lie down beside her. ”I don’t like Charles Prescott,” she said.

”...I just said you care about him. I never said you liked him.”

’At least he was a man who had occupied a huge part of her life!’

’They were childhood sweethearts...’

Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton. ’I’m several years older than her.’

’When I was in high school, she must have still been in elementary school.’

’So, we never really crossed paths.’

’And now...’

’I’m actually a little jealous of Charles Prescott. Jealous that they got to grow up together.’

...

Hearing Nathan Fawcett’s words, Anne Sutton didn’t know how to respond.

She and Charles Prescott had too much history, and so the hatred ran deep.

She lay on the bed and said nothing more.

...

「The next morning」

Anne Sutton and Nathan Fawcett had just come downstairs when they saw that Charles Prescott had already arrived.

He was sitting on the sofa, and Ian was sitting nearby, staring warily at Charles Prescott.

He still remembered how Charles Prescott had come over to bully Anne and try to kick her out when Nathan wasn’t around.

Seeing Nathan Fawcett come downstairs, Charles Prescott quickly stood up. ”Uncle.”

Grace was also standing nearby; she must have come with Charles Prescott.

Anne Sutton hadn’t expected them to arrive so early.

Grace looked at her. ”Ms. Sutton.”

Nathan Fawcett helped Anne Sutton to the sofa and had her sit down. He looked at Charles Prescott and said, ”You came all this way to see me. If you have something to say, just say it.”

Charles Prescott said, ”President Sterling has been taken into custody.”

Nathan Fawcett looked at Charles Prescott. ”I saw the news.”

The news of President Sterling’s arrest had broken that morning.

Charles Prescott said, ”I know he’s said many things to offend you in the past.”

Nathan Fawcett noted Charles Prescott’s submissive demeanor and said, ”What are you talking about, President Prescott? You’re the president of the company. Isn’t it his job to speak up for you? As for me... who the hell am I?”

Charles Prescott clenched his fists tightly. ”I came to see you today just to talk about the company.”

”Go on,” Nathan Fawcett said, watching Charles Prescott leisurely. He didn’t know if the business with President Sterling had scared him, but Charles was being exceptionally docile.

Anne Sutton was also a bit surprised.

She watched Charles Prescott, having rarely seen him so subdued.

Charles Prescott said, ”The Fawcett Group has always been the old chairman’s life’s work. He dedicated his entire life to it. I know it may not be comparable to the Linden Conglomerate, but we all gave our everything to get the Fawcett Group where it is today.”

”...” Nathan Fawcett nonchalantly pulled out his phone and glanced at it.

Charles Prescott didn’t know if he was listening, so he continued, ”What I mean is... next time something like the situation with President Sterling comes up, could you give us a heads-up first, Uncle? We can handle it internally, and we won’t show favoritism to anyone. But online, if public opinion spirals out of control, the impact on the company will be huge. One President Sterling isn’t important, but the future of the company... don’t you care about that either, Uncle?”

Nathan Fawcett looked at Charles Prescott and a small smile played on his lips. ”Congratulations, you guessed right. I really don’t care what happens to the Fawcett Group. My mother despises the old man. If something happened to the company, I believe she’d be happier than anyone.”

Hearing this, Charles Prescott’s hands clenched together. He stared at Nathan Fawcett in disbelief and said, ”You want to destroy the Fawcett Group?”

Nathan Fawcett raised an eyebrow. ”If it’s necessary, it’s not out of the question.”

”...” Charles Prescott said, ”Aren’t you afraid of how heartbroken the old chairman will be when he finds out?”

”I never cared much for him as a father anyway,” Nathan Fawcett said. ”I only came back here because of her.”

As he spoke, he glanced at Anne Sutton. ”I heard you all were bullying her while I was away. What, did you really think the Fawcett family was empty?”

Charles had known all along that Nathan had only come here because of Anne Sutton.

But hearing him say it out loud still felt like a slap in the face to Charles Prescott.

’He’s willing to snatch away the company I care so much about, just because Anne Sutton felt a little wronged?’

’Who else but him could be so damn reckless?’

Charles Prescott said, ”I admit I was a bit harsh with Anne before, and I made her feel wronged. But Uncle, please, think about the company too, won’t you? I don’t want our struggles to affect the business. That would be a terrible outcome for everyone.”
