Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Anne Sutton glanced at Nathan Fawcett and asked, ”Have you seen the news?”

”What news?” Nathan Fawcett, who had been focused on his meal, looked up at her.

Anne Sutton said, ”The news about Ms. Shields. The lead actress in her new show has been replaced. I heard the only reason she got to where she is today is because Mr. Linden was backing her. For someone to dare replace her now, isn’t that a slap in your face?”

Nathan Fawcett picked up his glass, took a sip of water, and said nothing.

Anne Sutton said, ”You’re not denying it. So it’s true, you’re the one who’s been backing her all these years?”

”And what if I have?” Nathan Fawcett looked at her. ”If you were interested in show business, I could back you too.”

”I’ll pass,” Anne Sutton said. ”I don’t have the time.”

She had no interest in show business.

After all those years of hard study to become a doctor, she had no interest in pursuing anything else.

Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton and said, ”Then why are you being so catty about it?”

”Who said I was being catty?” Anne Sutton retorted.

Nathan Fawcett raised an eyebrow. ”Oh, you’re not?”

His gaze was filled with doubt.

Anne Sutton was mortified, regretting that she’d opened her big mouth to bring this up.

’Whatever was going on between him and Stella Shields was his own business.’

Anne Sutton said, ”You’re clearly close to her, and you treat her so well! And you still say there’s nothing between you? Who would believe that?”

’He couldn’t possibly be this good to Stella Shields for no reason!’

Nathan Fawcett said, ”I just see her as a sister.”

’I’m just taking care of her for the real Ethan Linden, that’s all!’

Anne Sutton said, ”That’s what Charles Prescott used to say when he was with other women. The only problem was, he had way too many ’sisters’.”

Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton, the corner of his mouth lifting into a playful smirk. ”Is that so?”

”It is,” Anne Sutton said. ”With you men and your ’sisters,’ who knows how many there really are!”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”You seem to be overstepping.”

”...”

Just then, Nathan Fawcett’s phone rang.

He glanced at it before answering. ”Hello.”

Justin Shields’ voice came through. ”It’s me! Have you seen the news?”

Nathan Fawcett glanced at Anne Sutton, then, as if afraid she might overhear, he stood up and walked over to the window to continue the call.

Anne Sutton glanced at Ian and took the opportunity to put some more food on his plate. ”Eat up.”

Standing by the window, Nathan Fawcett said, ”What news?”

”About Stella,” Justin Shields said. ”I remember you invested in this show. Weren’t we going to have Stella as the lead actress? Why was she suddenly replaced?”

It’s an excellent script.

Better than any script Stella Shields has landed before.

Stella Shields had high hopes for it.

Now that she’s been suddenly replaced by someone else, can you imagine how devastated she must be?

Nathan Fawcett said, ”I just think she has a lot on her plate lately. I want her to get some rest.”

Justin Shields said, ”She’s just exhausted. She can rest for a couple of days, but she still wants to do this show...”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”I’m still eating. I don’t have time for this right now.”

His voice was cold and detached.

Justin Shields was taken aback. He didn’t know why, but even over the phone, he could sense the displeasure in Nathan Fawcett’s tone.

He asked, ”Did Stella do something to upset you?”

Nathan Fawcett had always looked out for Stella Shields.

The reason Stella Shields had enjoyed such great resources since her debut was all because Nathan Fawcett was backing her.

After all, the Linden Group had a wealth of resources at its disposal.

Stella Shields was landing so many ad campaigns with major brands that she was practically turning them down.

Because of her, the Shields Group had become a highly sought-after, top-tier entertainment company, its standing in the industry skyrocketing.

So for Nathan Fawcett to suddenly replace her as the lead, Justin Shields couldn’t help but let his mind race.

Nathan Fawcett didn’t answer, simply hanging up the phone.

Justin Shields stared at his phone. Seeing that Nathan Fawcett hadn’t denied it, he knew that he was truly angry.

’It seems...’

’Stella Shields must have really provoked him these past couple of days!’

Justin Shields left his office and drove back to the Shields Family residence. When he walked in, he saw Stella Shields lying on her bed, chin resting on the back of her hands, clearly with something on her mind.

Justin Shields asked, ”Did you have a fight with Ethan Linden?”

Stella Shields didn’t answer.

Justin Shields continued, ”Do you know that you’ve lost the lead role in *Evening Face*?”

Hearing this, Stella Shields sat up and stared at Justin Shields in disbelief. ”How is that possible?”

”Why wouldn’t it be possible?” Justin Shields said. ”See for yourself. Look at the news.”

Stella Shields pulled out her phone, and when she saw the announcement from the *Evening Face* production team, she looked like she was about to fall apart. ”Why is this happening?”

’Ethan Linden himself chose me for this part. It’s impossible that someone would dare replace me!’

Justin Shields asked, ”What did you do to get on Ethan Linden’s bad side?”

”...” At her brother’s words, Stella Shields’s mind flew to Nathan Fawcett...

She had been heartbroken when she left his place earlier today.

’But she never imagined he would go so far as to take her role away.’

Justin Shields reminded her, ”Stella, I know you’ve spent the last few years with the Linden Family, but Ethan Linden is gone. *He* is the one in charge now. It’s one thing for him to treat you well, but don’t be so willful that you forget your place.”

He had dealt with Nathan Fawcett before and didn’t think he was as good-tempered as Ethan Linden. Nathan was not an easy man to deal with.

Once he was displeased, it was perfectly normal for him to do something outrageous.

After all, it wasn’t as if he and Stella Shields had any real personal connection.

Hearing Justin Shields’s words, Stella Shields said resentfully, ”Is Anne Sutton really that important to him? To think he’d do this to me, all for that woman.”

Justin Shields said, ”I’ve told you before, they’re a married couple. You’d best not get involved in their business. You’ll only be the one to get hurt in the end. Now get up. I’m taking you to see him so you can apologize.”

Stella Shields looked at Justin Shields, her brow furrowed, feeling as if her heart was being torn apart.

...

After dinner, Anne Sutton carried Ian to his room and set him down.

She looked at Ian and asked, ”Was the food good today?”

”It was yummy.” Ian looked at Anne Sutton, smiled, and said, ”Anne, being sick is great.”

”...” Anne Sutton couldn’t help but laugh at his words. ”What a silly thing to say. What’s so great about being sick?”

”When I’m sick, you make me delicious food.”

”Don’t be silly,” Anne Sutton said. ”I’ll cook for you even when you’re healthy, Ian. As long as you don’t think my cooking is too terrible.”

”Never! Anne’s cooking is delicious.”

As they were talking, they heard a car pull up downstairs.

Ever since Charles Prescott’s family had moved out, the Fawcett Residence had been much quieter.

The arrival of visitors caught Anne Sutton’s attention. She stood up, walked to the window, and saw it was the Shields siblings.

’Justin Shields and Stella Shields came together!’

They were close with Ethan Linden, so Anne Sutton wasn’t surprised to see them here.

She sat back down, turning her attention to Ian, not bothering to think about what was happening downstairs.

Nathan Fawcett was sitting on the sofa when Justin Shields led Stella Shields inside. Upon seeing Nathan, Justin took the initiative to speak. ”Where’s Ian?”

”He’s sick. He’s resting upstairs.”

”I’ll go check on him.”

Nathan Fawcett stopped him from going upstairs. ”Sit.”
