Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

President Sterling was taken aback by his retort. For some reason, he found Ethan Linden a little terrifying at that moment.

He cowered a bit and said nothing.

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Since the person has already been fired, let’s leave it at that. Charles Prescott, you deal with your own people.”

Hearing Nathan’s words, Charles Prescott glanced at Henry Underwood and said, ”As of today, Henry Underwood is relieved of his position as assistant and will be demoted to a junior role. He’s so unreliable, I can’t keep him by my side.”

”...” Henry Underwood stood to the side, also saying nothing.

And just like that, the matter was handled.

...

Afterward, Charles Prescott led President Sterling and Henry Underwood out. Anne Sutton followed them. ”Charles Prescott.”

Charles Prescott stopped and looked at Anne Sutton.

Anne Sutton walked up to him and said, ”Why did you bring Yvonne Evans in?”

Charles Prescott shrugged helplessly. ”I don’t know what you’re talking about. Henry Underwood did it.”

”Don’t think I don’t know,” Anne Sutton said. ”It must have been you. My dad probably came to you again, so you arranged it. Henry Underwood doesn’t have the time for this. You still have a guilty conscience, which is why my dad can threaten you like this.”

’Given his personality, he shouldn’t be willing to do something like this.’

’But he did it anyway!’

Charles Prescott said, ”Even if it’s as you say, shouldn’t you go to your father? Why are you blaming me?”

Anne Sutton said, ”Of course I’ll go to my father. But since you’re the one who arranged it, you must have known who that girl was. You’re truly disgusting.”

’I don’t know how he became this kind of person!’

’He actually arranged for her father’s illegitimate daughter to get in, just to spite her.’

Charles Prescott saw Anne Sutton looking at him sorrowfully, her eyes filled with sadness. She looked just like she used to when she’d cry in front of him after getting bad grades. Charles froze for a moment and said, ”Anne.”

He knew this would hurt her.

But seeing the sadness in her eyes at this moment, his own heart still felt a pang.

Anne Sutton said, ”I never want to see you again.”

After saying that, she turned and walked away.

Charles Prescott watched her retreating back, wanting to reach out and grab her...

Nathan Fawcett had already come out. Anne Sutton walked to his side and said, ”Let’s go back.”

Nathan Fawcett looked up, glanced at Charles Prescott, then his gaze fell on Anne Sutton. Seeing her face filled with sorrow, it was clear she’d been upset by Charles.

It seemed only that man had ever been able to make her angry and sad.

...

’To her, Charles Prescott must be a very important person!’

Even though the two of them had always been like fire and water.

Nathan Fawcett followed Anne Sutton toward his office.

Anne Sutton followed behind Nathan Fawcett without saying a single word.

Back in the office, Butler Walters said, ”Sir.”

Nathan Fawcett sat down and asked, ”What happened?”

He hadn’t known what was going on in the conference room today.

He only found out that something like this had happened at the company after Chairman Grant told him.

The butler said, ”That Miss Yvonne Evans who was brought in bumped into the Young Master today and also mocked the Missus. The Missus has already fired her.”

The butler’s words proved that Anne Sutton had nothing to do with this matter.

Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton. He didn’t really think much of the incident.

It was Chairman Grant who had insisted on asking.

Besides...

He also wanted to know what had really happened.

Glancing at Anne Sutton sitting on the sofa, Nathan Fawcett said, ”It’s all over now. Why are you so sad?”

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, ”That girl is my father’s illegitimate daughter.”

”...” Nathan Fawcett had heard about this a couple of days ago.

But he hadn’t expected the illegitimate daughter to be brought into the company!

He looked at Anne Sutton, wanting to say something comforting, but for a moment, he couldn’t find the words.

Anne Sutton said, ”I don’t know what method my dad used to get Charles Prescott to bring her in. And now, somehow, it’s become my fault!”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”She’s been fired. Something like this won’t happen again.”

This incident made Anne Sutton deeply uncomfortable for several reasons.

So she was in a really bad mood now.

...

Henry Underwood accompanied Charles Prescott downstairs. Chairman Grant and Grace were together.

Grace said to Chairman Grant, ”Thank you for standing up for me today, Uncle Grant.”

Chairman Grant said, ”It was nothing. You’re a talented person; you should be able to shine wherever you go.”

He had met Grace before during an event at University A.

Otherwise, a girl like Grace, with no connections, would have just been eliminated with no recourse.

Chairman Grant got into his car first, and Grace stood at the entrance, watching him leave.

Henry Underwood saw Charles Prescott standing to the side, watching Grace. He said, ”This young woman clearly has a deep connection with Chairman Grant. How should we place her once she joins the company?”

Charles Prescott glanced at Henry Underwood. ”Let her take your position.”

Henry Underwood: ”...” ???

He looked at Charles Prescott, completely baffled.

Charles Prescott said, ”You’re being sent down to a junior role for a while. Don’t we need someone to fill your position? And here we have the perfect person. What do you think?”

A smart man like Henry Underwood immediately understood. ”You’re right. I’ll go contact her then.”

...

When Anne Sutton left the company, she didn’t go home with Nathan Fawcett. Instead, she went to the hospital.

Her mother was staying in the hospital.

Sean Sutton was there taking care of her mother.

She went over to check on them.

Sean Sutton came out of the hospital room and saw her there. ”What are you doing here? Didn’t your mother say she didn’t want to see you? Go busy yourself with your own affairs. I’m enough to handle things at the hospital.”

Anne Sutton looked at Sean Sutton and said, ”Did you go to Charles Prescott and get your illegitimate daughter a job at the Fawcett Group?”

”...” Sean Sutton said, ”No! Who told you that?”

’Anyway, Anne has never met her, so she doesn’t know who it is.’

’As long as I don’t admit it, there’s nothing she can do.’

That was Sean Sutton’s plan.

Anne Sutton stared at him. ”She went all over the company telling everyone I’m her older sister, and today she even came to cause trouble for me right to my face! Are you still going to play dumb?”

Sean Sutton hadn’t expected that to happen.

”That can’t be right.”

Anne Sutton said, ”You really raised a fine daughter. She’s so stupid.”

Sean Sutton could see that Anne Sutton was genuinely angry—she wouldn’t have made a special trip here otherwise. He said to her, ”Anne, no matter what, she’s still your younger sister. Don’t hold it against her! She’s just young!”

”Right. A college graduate. So very young,” Anne Sutton said, finding it laughable.

Sean Sutton looked at her and said, ”I’ll have a good talk with her when I get back! Keep your voice down, don’t let your mother hear.”

Anne Sutton looked at his self-righteous expression. Because she knew about this but didn’t dare say anything out of concern for her mother, her father was now acting completely brazen.

’He actually expects me to tolerate his illegitimate daughter!’

’How ridiculous!’

...

Just then, Sean Sutton’s phone rang.

He glanced at Anne Sutton and said, ”I need to take this call.”

Then, he turned away with his phone.

A woman’s voice soon came through the phone. ”Where are you right now?”

It was the same woman as last time.
