Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Nathan Fawcett asked, ”If it were Ethan who made you unhappy, would you disown him as your son too?”

He never knew that the bond between a mother and son could be severed so easily.

Especially after becoming a father himself. Looking at Ian, he felt his son was more important than his own life, which made it even harder for him to understand Anna Linden’s attitude toward him.

Anna Linden said coldly, ”You can never compare to Ethan. You’re not even in the same league! You just followed your father and picked up all his bad habits. Would Ethan ever be like you? You completely disregard everything I say. If Ethan were still here, do you think I’d be relying on you?”

Anna Linden’s words were merciless. Even Anne Sutton found them harsh to hear.

Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett’s expression slowly darkened until, finally, he silently hung up the phone.

Anna Linden stared at her screen. Seeing that Nathan Fawcett had hung up, her face turned cold. ’So, he has the nerve to hang up on me now.’

Anna Linden made a call. Soon, her assistant, Chloe Chase, came over and said, ”Anna.”

Anna Linden said, ”Book me a ticket. I’m going to Westhaven.”

”To see the Young Master?” Chloe Chase looked at her.

Anna Linden was so angry her fingers were trembling. ”Now that he’s over there, he’s getting more and more out of line! He completely disregards me. Does he really think there’s nothing I can do about him now? Fine, he doesn’t have to listen to me! But he shouldn’t blame me for taking away his inheritance of the company.”

Hearing her words, Chloe Chase tried to reason with her. ”Madam, that might not be a good idea. The Young Master has taken over the company and is managing everything quite well, saving you a lot of trouble. If you take away his inheritance and give it to someone else, it wouldn’t be appropriate!”

Although Anna Linden was the primary heir of the Linden Family, her heart was in medicine, and she had no interest in business matters.

She also lacked the energy to manage the company’s affairs.

That was why, from the very beginning, the company was meant for Ethan Linden.

Anna Linden said, ”I never should have given him that power in the first place. Now he doesn’t respect me at all.”

Chloe Chase advised, ”The Young Master is still very filial to you! It’s better to communicate properly about things; he’s usually very obedient. Besides... now that Ethan is gone, he’s the only one left by your side. You only have one son. If you have a falling out with him, it won’t be good for anyone. Surely you don’t want others to treat this as a joke!”

There were indeed many people who coveted the Linden Family inheritance.

But how could any of them compare to Nathan Fawcett?

Although Nathan’s surname was Fawcett, he was still the son Anna Linden had carried for ten months and given birth to.

The others were just the sons of Mr. Linden’s brothers—Anna Linden’s cousins—and not close relatives at all.

Anna Linden sat with a dark expression. Chloe Chase knew she was furious and said, ”If you’re really that upset, I can go to Westhaven on your behalf. What do you think?”

She was genuinely afraid that if Anna Linden went, the mother and son, both being hot-tempered, would have a major falling out. If they reached a point of no return, it would only benefit the others.

She had been by Anna Linden’s side for many years, so Anna naturally trusted her.

Anna Linden glanced at her assistant and said, ”Then you go. Talk some sense into him for me! And while you’re at it, ask him who he’s going to choose: that woman, or me!”

The thought of him being so blatantly together with Anne Sutton, completely disregarding her, left a bitter taste in Anna Linden’s mouth.

She felt utterly disrespected!

Hearing her words, Chloe Chase nodded. ”Okay.”

「...」

Inside the car, Anne Sutton watched Nathan Fawcett. After hanging up on his mother, he just sat there, not saying a word.

Anne Sutton asked, ”Are you okay?”

Nathan Fawcett didn’t speak, his expression grim.

He had always cared deeply about his mother.

But what Anna Linden had just said was simply too heartbreaking for him.

Seeing him silent, Anne Sutton reached out and took his hand. ”Nathan, don’t be sad. Ian and I are here.”

Seeing him like this, her own mood soured.

After all, she was the one who was despised. It was because Nathan Fawcett had gotten close to her that Anna Linden was so angry.

Hearing her, Nathan Fawcett glanced at her, then at Ian, who was also staring at him with wide eyes.

He reached out and ruffled his son’s hair, his eyes filled with affection.

After his father passed away, there was a time when he felt his mother was the closest person he had in the world.

If Anna Linden had treated him like this in the past, he would have been devastated.

But thankfully...

Thankfully, Anne Sutton had given him a son.

Now he had Ian. His fixation on his mother had slowly shifted to his son. He was a man with a family of his own now.

He would no longer be driven to despair and withdrawal by his mother’s every action, as he once was.

He said to Anne Sutton, ”I’m fine. I’m not a child anymore.”

’After all these years, it’s about time I saw things clearly!’

Seeing him finally speak, Anne Sutton breathed a sigh of relief.

’As long as he’s not angry!’

Otherwise, she was genuinely afraid that with his temperament, he might do something drastic.

Back at the Fawcett residence, Anne Sutton flopped onto the sofa. ”I’m dead tired! I was busy at the hospital all day, and then we had that trip to the Shields Family’s place.”

The visit to the Shields Family, though just for a meal, was anything but relaxing. The atmosphere was just too awkward.

’Crashing a party like that really takes some nerve.’

Ian followed suit, flopping down next to her and landing on top of her. ”I’m dead tired!”

Nathan Fawcett walked in from outside with a sullen look on his face. Seeing the two of them, he said to Anne Sutton, ”Look at what you’ve taught him.”

”...” Anne Sutton, feeling his disapproval, sat up straight. ”What are you talking about? I just lay down for a second. What’s wrong with that? Am I not allowed to lie down? You have too many rules!”

She looked at Ian and asked, ”Ian, do you want something to eat? I can go make you something.”

”Didn’t you just say you were tired?” Nathan Fawcett shot her a cold glance.

Anne Sutton stood up. ”I just remembered that a certain someone didn’t eat much tonight.”

He was a picky eater to begin with, and with the atmosphere earlier, Anne Sutton had eaten plenty, but Nathan Fawcett had barely touched his food.

Nathan Fawcett glanced at her, his expression complicated.

Anne Sutton said, ”Just wait, I’ll go cook you a bowl of noodles.”

With that, she walked into the kitchen.

Ian sat next to Nathan Fawcett and said, ”Dad, Anne’s cooking is the best, right?”

Nathan Fawcett glanced at his son. ”Yeah.”

”Then you should stop making Anne angry, so she can stay with me forever! I like Anne. Dad, Anne is my mom, right? I’m sure she’s the one who gave birth to me. Otherwise, why would I like her so much?”

Nathan Fawcett: ”...”

He never, ever expected Ian to say something like that!

He didn’t think a child as young as Ian could stumble upon the truth like that.

Anne Sutton came out of the kitchen with a bowl of freshly cooked noodles. She called out to the father and son on the sofa, ”Come on! It’s ready. Ian, you already ate out today, so just have a little.”

Ian came over right away.

Nathan Fawcett slowly made his way over.
