Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

’She felt so wronged!’

’What in the world am I to him?’

Nathan Fawcett opened his eyes and looked at her. He saw the miserable look on her face, an expression he rarely saw.

After all, she had always been so carefree.

Nathan Fawcett said, ”I haven’t been around for the past two days. Why are you blaming me for your bad mood?”

Anne Sutton replied, ”You know why.”

”What do I know?” Nathan Fawcett looked at her and said, ”It’s just a sprained ankle. Didn’t I arrange for someone to take care of you?”

”...” Anne Sutton looked at him, suddenly feeling like there was no point in saying anything.

’It’s true...’

’What could she possibly hope for from him?’

’Did she really expect him to be a little kinder to her?’

’How is that possible?’

’He’s not the kind of person who would ever be good to her!’

Anne Sutton said, ”Forget it. I’m not talking to you.”

Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton. He thought about how he hadn’t shown up for the past two days; he’d been swamped with work. He had wanted to come see her, but every time he asked, Chloe Chase said she was already asleep, so he didn’t want to disturb her.

He just wanted her to rest and recover properly.

And now, the moment he came to see her, she was throwing a tantrum at him.

He really wanted to just turn around and leave.

However...

He remembered Anne Sutton’s hurt expression. It looked like she had been crying.

In the end, he couldn’t bring himself to be harsh. He moved closer, pulled back the covers, and his voice softened. ”What’s wrong? Does your foot hurt? I’ll have Mrs. Chase come take a look.”

”Don’t call her!” Hearing this, Anne Sutton glared at Nathan Fawcett. ”If you don’t want to deal with me, then just leave. You don’t have to dump me on someone else.”

She felt like she was going crazy from being tormented by that Chloe Chase for the past two days!

It would have been better if she had just said a few harsh words, but instead, she was constantly passive-aggressive, which made Anne incredibly uncomfortable.

Nathan Fawcett looked at her and said, ”I know you’re in a bad mood because you’re injured. But Mrs. Chase said it’s just a minor injury and that it will heal. You don’t need to worry so much.”

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett, seeing how earnestly he was trying to comfort her. She said to him, ”My foot is fine. I just can’t stand the sight of you.”

”Then who can you stand the sight of?” Nathan Fawcett retorted. ”Charles Prescott? Or maybe Justin Shields? Should I ask them to come see you instead?”

”...” ’Great, he’s looking for trouble with me again!’

Nathan Fawcett looked at her. ”I’ve had a long day, and I come back to keep you company, but what do you do? You’ve got other men on your mind?”

”...” Anne Sutton was so exasperated by his words she didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ”When was I thinking about other men? You’re the one who ignored me for the past two days! You didn’t show up once, and you left me with your mother’s assistant. You know she doesn’t like me! And you still left me with her. I would have been better off left to fend for myself.”

Hearing her words, Nathan Fawcett fell silent for a moment before asking, ”Did Mrs. Chase give you a hard time?”

”Not at all,” Anne Sutton said. ”Why would she give me a hard time? She has such a wonderful temper!”

Chloe Chase wasn’t like Stella Shields.

If Stella Shields disliked someone, it was written all over her face.

This Chloe Chase was very polite to you, but she just made you feel uncomfortable, putting you on edge.

Nathan Fawcett looked at her. Although she denied it, her eyes said it all.

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Things have been a little hectic the past couple of days. I’ll stay home and keep you company tomorrow.”

Anne Sutton replied, ”No, thank you! You have no obligation to stay with me. You don’t owe me anything.”

Nathan Fawcett looked at her and said, ”Alright, that’s enough! I’ve already tried to placate you. If you’re still going to be like this, I’m done trying.”

”I never asked you to,” Anne Sutton said, looking at him. Seeing that he was now threatening her, she continued, ”I’m perfectly fine on my own. I don’t need you to look after me. Nathan Fawcett, I want to break up! I don’t want to be with you anymore.”

”...” Seeing the look of disgust on her face, Nathan Fawcett said, ”Once things here are settled, you won’t have the chance to be with me even if you wanted to. When the time comes, I’ll take Ian back to Veridia and I won’t bother you again.”

Anne Sutton looked at him and asked, ”Then when will things here be settled?”

”Soon.”

Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton. He had been dragging his feet, avoiding a resolution, precisely because he felt that...

’The moment it’s over, he’ll have to leave!’

’By then, what excuse would he have to keep her by his side?’

He never imagined she would be this eager for it to end!

Hearing Nathan Fawcett’s words, Anne Sutton nodded. ”Fine. I’ll be waiting then.”

Nathan Fawcett lay beside her, watching her, but he couldn’t fall asleep again.

The next morning, Anne Sutton came out of her room. She could now walk on her own.

She just didn’t dare put too much weight on the injured foot.

As she came downstairs, she happened to see Chloe Chase standing at the door, saying to Nathan Fawcett, ”Well, I’ll be heading back now! Once you’ve finished up things here, hurry back with Ian.”

Nathan Fawcett nodded. ”Okay.”

”Don’t worry, I’ll talk to your mother!”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Thank you, Mrs. Chase.”

Chloe Chase looked up, glanced at Anne Sutton standing at the top of the stairs, gave her a polite nod, and then left.

She had come this time mainly to check on the situation between Anne Sutton and Nathan Fawcett.

After observing them for the past few days, she saw that Nathan Fawcett’s attitude toward Anne Sutton wasn’t what she had imagined, which set her mind at ease.

In any case, once things were over, the two of them would go their separate ways.

Now she had something to report back to Anna Linden!

After Chloe Chase left, Nathan Fawcett looked up and saw Anne Sutton at the top of the stairs. ”The housekeeper made lunch. Come and eat. You can walk on your own now?”

Anne Sutton nodded. ”Yeah.”

Even though Anne Sutton could make it downstairs by herself, Nathan Fawcett still walked over and helped her to the dining table.

Anne Sutton looked at the man. Perhaps because she had seen Chloe Chase leave, she felt a great sense of relief.

She remembered how she had thrown a fit in front of him last night and felt a little embarrassed.

Anne Sutton said, ”I wasn’t in a good mood last night.”

Nathan Fawcett looked at her and said, ”I know. A lot has been going on lately. You must be under a lot of stress.”

Anne Sutton sat down and started to eat.

...

Chloe Chase returned to the Linden Family estate. She entered the study and saw Anna Linden examining medical files. ”Ma’am,” she said.

Anna Linden looked up at her. ”You’re back? How are things over there?”

Chloe Chase said, ”The Young Master is being very rational. He won’t do anything to upset you! You can rest assured!”

Anna Linden looked at Chloe Chase. ”Explain.”

Chloe Chase said, ”I don’t think Nathan likes Anne Sutton at all.”

”Doesn’t like her?” Anna Linden retorted. ”He bullied Stella for Anne Sutton’s sake, and you’re telling me he doesn’t like her? From what I see, he’s completely infatuated with her.”

”That’s not what happened! The Young Master was indeed displeased with Ms. Shields, but it wasn’t because of Anne Sutton. It was because of Young Master Ian.”

”What about Ian?”

”Ms. Shields has no experience with children. A few days ago, while she was looking after the Young Master, she was careless, which made Nathan a little upset. You know how much Nathan dotes on his son! He’s very protective. He was angry because of what happened with Ian, not because of Anne Sutton. They won’t end up together, so please, don’t worry!”

Hearing Chloe Chase’s words, Anna Linden’s mood improved slightly. She asked, ”Is he with Anne Sutton right now?”
