Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Hearing Nathan Fawcett’s words, Anne Sutton smiled helplessly. ”Thank you for stopping me. If you hadn’t... I might have died from regret after learning the truth.”

Nathan Fawcett reached out and stroked her cheek, his voice stern. ”Don’t be with Charles Prescott again! Do you hear me?”

He spoke to her as if he were scolding an elementary school student.

’He says I can be with anyone!’

’But he just had to forbid me from seeing Charles Prescott!’

Anne Sutton couldn’t bear the injustice.

”I was never with him,” Anne Sutton explained. ”Nathan... he’s the one who made me lose my baby! I’ve wanted revenge all these years, but I couldn’t do it. I’m so useless. For the past few years, you’ve been in my dreams every night. I think about you every day, always wishing you were here. If you were by my side, I wouldn’t be afraid of anything.”

”...” As Nathan Fawcett listened to her, he remembered their first meeting in Veridia. She had been drunk and had thrown herself into his arms, calling him Nathan...

He had resented her for years, treating her like a stranger and wanting no further entanglement. Yet, at that moment, he couldn’t help but feel a pang of compassion.

Hearing her say all this now, Nathan Fawcett rolled over to face her...

The moment their eyes met, Anne Sutton felt a little awkward.

His gaze made Anne Sutton nervous. She bit her lip. ”Why are you looking at me like that?”

Nathan Fawcett had already lowered his head and pressed a kiss to her lips...

The kiss was both domineering and gentle.

The last time they had been together was a long, long time ago.

Even though it wasn’t their first time, her heart was still pounding in her chest...

She remembered how being with him in the past had always felt like a form of torture.

She had been so young back then, and the thought of him dying had terrified her.

But now...

Years later, being with him again, all she felt was the fluttering in her heart.

’Perhaps during the years she had lost him, he had become someone completely different in her heart!’

...

The next morning, while Nathan Fawcett was still asleep, Anne Sutton’s phone rang.

She glanced at Nathan Fawcett sleeping beside her, then quickly grabbed her phone. A look at the screen showed it was a call from Sharon.

Anne Sutton lifted the covers, got out of bed, and slipped quietly into the bathroom. She answered in a hushed voice, ”Hello?”

”Sis,” came Sharon Sutton’s voice. ”Are you at the hospital today? I’ll come over and see you!”

”...” Anne Sutton remembered she had promised to help her find a job, a task she had recently let slide.

She said, ”Okay, come on over. Last time we spoke, Mom said I should help you find a job. As it happens, I asked around for you a couple of days ago.”

Sharon Sutton said, ”Alright.”

After finishing the call, Anne Sutton walked out of the bathroom and saw that Nathan Fawcett was already awake.

Last night, in the heat of the moment, being together hadn’t felt awkward at all.

But seeing him now, Anne Sutton felt a little awkward. ”Morning.”

Nathan Fawcett stared at her. Feeling a bit self-conscious, Anne Sutton quickly got back into bed.

Nathan Fawcett asked, ”No work today?”

”I’m on a later shift, so I have the morning off,” Anne Sutton told Nathan Fawcett. ”Are you heading to work?”

Nathan Fawcett took out his phone and glanced at his schedule. ”I have to stop by the office.”

”What’s the latest on Charles Prescott?”

”He bought a house.” Miles Prescott and Charles Prescott had been by Master Fawcett’s side for many years, so buying a house was hardly an issue for them.

Especially since they had been the ones managing the Fawcett Group for the past few years.

Anne Sutton said, ”What about the company...”

”I’ll let you know if there’s any news.”

As he got dressed, Nathan Fawcett glanced back at her. ”If you’re sleepy, you can get up later. Just make sure you eat before you go to work.”

Anne Sutton nodded. ”Okay.”

Once dressed, Nathan Fawcett left.

Anne Sutton watched him go, pulling the blankets tighter around herself.

...

By the time she got up, Nathan Fawcett had already left for work. Ian was sitting at the dining table.

The housekeeper was trying to coax him into taking his medicine.

Of course, he refused to take it.

Seeing Anne Sutton come downstairs, the housekeeper said, ”Ma’am, the young master won’t take his medicine.”

Anne Sutton looked at the little boy. ’Even though I don’t know who his mother is, since he’s Nathan Fawcett’s child, that makes him my child, too!’

’No wonder Nathan Fawcett wanted me to be the boy’s mother before.’

Anne Sutton looked at him and asked, ”Ian, why won’t you take your medicine?”

”It’s too bitter.”

Ian said to Anne Sutton, ”I feel like I’m all better now.”

Anne Sutton reached out to feel his forehead. ”But you’re still a little warm,” she said. ”Be a good boy and take your medicine, okay? Ian is the sweetest boy.”

Ian looked up at Anne Sutton.

Not wanting to upset Anne Sutton, he obediently took the medicine.

...

The housekeeper looked at Anne Sutton and asked, ”Don’t you have work today, Ma’am?”

”I’ll go after I eat,” Anne Sutton said. ”I’ll be back late tonight.”

The housekeeper said, ”You work so hard, Ma’am.”

Anne Sutton said, ”It’s not so bad. Work at the hospital is busy, but having something to do feels fulfilling.”

It’s better than just wasting away at home every day.

The housekeeper smiled.

Anne Sutton said, ”Thank you for taking care of Ian. Please call me if anything comes up. Ian, you get some good rest at home, okay?”

Ian nodded. ”You can go to work! Don’t worry about me. I’ll take care of myself.”

He was so mature for his age.

Anne Sutton felt a sense of gratification watching him.

’Even though he isn’t my own son, I really adore Ian.’

...

Not long after she arrived at the hospital, Sharon Sutton showed up.

Anne Sutton said, ”My hospital has some openings right now. You could go for an interview.”

Sharon Sutton looked at Anne Sutton and said, ”I didn’t come to look for a job today.”

Anne Sutton looked at her, confused. ”Then why are you here?”

Sharon Sutton said, ”I’ve been having a bit of a health issue. I wanted to come in for a check-up.”

”...” Anne Sutton put her hands in her pockets and looked Sharon Sutton over. ”What’s wrong?”

Sharon Sutton explained her situation to Anne Sutton. ”I’ve missed my period.”

After hearing this, Anne Sutton arranged for her to get some tests done.

When the tests were done, Anne Sutton looked at the results, then at Sharon Sutton. ”You’re pregnant?”

Sharon Sutton didn’t seem surprised to hear Anne Sutton’s words.

’She must have known the result all along.’

Anne Sutton asked, ”Who’s the father?”

’I always thought Sharon was single. She never told me she was seeing someone.’

Sharon Sutton said, ”Sis, I want to get married.”

”...” ’So she deliberately came to me for the tests today because she’d already made up her mind about this.’

Anne Sutton said, ”Did you go through all this just to tell me you want to get married? Have you told Mom and Dad?”

”Not yet.”

”When did you even get a boyfriend? Why didn’t I know? You have to tell me who the father is!”

’She’s already graduated, after all.’

’She’s of legal age to marry, so it’s her right if she wants to.’

Sharon Sutton said, ”You’ve met him before.”
