Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Anne Sutton looked over and saw him staring at her, lost in thought. ”You don’t want it?” she asked. ”Should I give it all to Ian, then?”

Ian’s eyes were always bigger than his stomach. Hearing Anne Sutton’s words, he clapped his hands in delight. ”Really? Then I won’t be polite!”

It was exactly what he wanted.

Nathan Fawcett shot him a glare and quickly pulled his own bowl closer. ”In your dreams!”

’Trying to eat my portion, too? That’s not happening.’

Anne Sutton sat to the side, watching the two of them, the corners of her mouth turning up in a smile.

After they finished their meal, Nathan Fawcett had some things to attend to, so Anne Sutton went to help Ian with his bath and then put him to bed.

The two of them were lying in bed. Anne Sutton was telling Ian a story, and he lay beside her, watching her with wide eyes.

As Anne Sutton was deep in the story, he suddenly lifted his head and gave her a kiss on the cheek. ”Mommy, I love you.”

”...” Anne Sutton stared at the little boy before her, stunned. A feeling of unreality washed over her.

She couldn’t explain why, but she felt the urge to cry.

It was as if her heartstrings had been plucked.

Anne Sutton gazed at the little boy, her eyes growing moist.

After a moment, she finally came to her senses and said, ”Ian, it’s time to sleep!”

’I’m speechless,’ she thought. ’I’m about to start crying in front of a child.’

She didn’t know why, but Ian seemed to be a very special presence in her life.

...

After coaxing Ian to sleep, Anne Sutton returned to her room and lay down. She usually read a little before bed, but tonight she wasn’t in the mood.

She leaned against the pillow, her face pale but her eyes red-rimmed, the contrast stark.

Nathan Fawcett walked in and paused when he saw her like this. ”What are you crying about?” he asked.

Anne Sutton glanced up at him and wiped away a tear. ”It’s nothing.”

”Nothing?” Nathan Fawcett walked over to her. ”What happened?”

He thought something must have happened to her.

Anne Sutton didn’t dare to meet his eyes. ”I just... I feel so useless.”

”...” Nathan Fawcett looked at her, confused. ”Why are you suddenly thinking about this?”

Anne Sutton stared at him, her eyes veiled with tears. ”Nathan, I miss my baby. If he were still alive, he’d be as old as Ian is now! But I couldn’t save him. I’m such an unfit mother.”

Nathan Fawcett was stunned by her words...

Since reuniting with Anne Sutton, he had occasionally heard her mention their child, but most of the time, it was in the context of her burning hatred for Charles Prescott.

He had rarely seen her cry simply from missing their child.

Looking at her now, Nathan Fawcett couldn’t help but feel that keeping the truth about Ian from her was somewhat cruel.

’Maybe...’

’Should I tell her the truth?’

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Actually... Ian, he...”

Anne Sutton sniffled and lay down. ”I’m going to sleep.”

’Crying in front of Nathan Fawcett is just too embarrassing!’ she thought.

Seeing that she had already lain down, the words Nathan Fawcett was about to say caught in his throat.

He turned and went to the bathroom to take a shower.

...

In the afternoon, Anne Sutton was still at the hospital. Just as she came out of surgery, her assistant walked over. ”Dr. Sutton, someone’s here to see you.”

Confused, Anne Sutton walked out and saw a woman in a business suit standing there. She looked somewhat familiar.

Anne Sutton paused for a moment before remembering who she was.

She had been a fan of Anna Linden for years; she was all too familiar with the woman standing before her.

This was Anna Linden’s assistant, Chloe Chase.

Chloe Chase had been present the previous times Anne Sutton had met Anna Linden.

Anne Sutton was surprised to see her. ”What are you doing here?”

Chloe Chase said, ”It seems Ms. Sutton still remembers me!”

Anne Sutton looked at her and said, ”You were always by Dr. Linden’s side. How could I not recognize you?”

Because Anna Linden was very famous, her assistant was naturally well-known too.

Seeing her, Anne Sutton immediately recalled the phone call Anna Linden had made to Nathan Fawcett yesterday.

’By the looks of it, has Anna Linden come here to find Nathan Fawcett?’

’Is Nathan Fawcett in some kind of trouble?’

Feeling a little worried, Anne Sutton asked, ”Since you’re here, does that mean Dr. Linden is here as well?”

”No,” Chloe Chase said. ”I’ve come on Dr. Linden’s behalf.”

Anne Sutton looked at her. ”You came to find me on her behalf?”

Chloe Chase said to Anne Sutton, ”Are you off work now?”

Anne Sutton replied, ”Yes.”

”Then I’ll wait for you. We can go talk somewhere.”

Anne Sutton was baffled by her words, but she went to change her clothes anyway.

When she came out, Chloe Chase was waiting for her by the door. She followed her into the car.

In the car, Chloe Chase glanced at her and asked, ”How have Ethan and the young master been doing here lately?”

Anne Sutton replied, ”They’re doing well.”

Chloe Chase said, ”Ms. Sutton, you’re with Ethan every day. You must be aware of his relationship with his mother, right?”

Hearing this, Anne Sutton said, ”If you have something to say, please just say it directly.”

Chloe Chase sighed. ”Actually, I really feel for Nathan.”

Anne Sutton glanced at her, a little surprised.

Chloe Chase continued, ”He grew up with his father and never received any love from his mother. If it weren’t for Ethan’s accident, Dr. Linden might never have acknowledged him as her son in her entire life.”

”...” Anne Sutton’s fingers tightened into a fist. She said, ”I used to think Dr. Linden was an outstanding physician, and I even saw her as my idol. But after seeing how she treats Nathan Fawcett, I really can’t say the same.”

As someone who had almost become a mother herself, she couldn’t understand why Anna Linden was so cold.

Chloe Chase chuckled. ”What if you had a child with Charles Prescott? Would you love his child?”

Anne Sutton was taken aback, not expecting her to pose such a hypothetical.

Anne Sutton said, ”I would never have Charles Prescott’s child.”

”Men can change. Who knows?” Chloe Chase said. ”Dr. Linden has her own misfortunes and unspeakable difficulties. She doesn’t want to be like this either. You’re in no position to blame her like this.”

Hearing Chloe Chase’s words, Anne Sutton said, ”But she’s truly been too cruel to Nathan.”

Chloe said, ”I know that, too. I just don’t want the two of them, mother and son, to have a complete falling out. That’s why I came here myself.”

She said to Anne Sutton, ”When adults have grievances, it’s the children who suffer. I know things haven’t been easy for Nathan. For the past few years, he was living with the Linden Family, by his mother’s side, and he was doing quite well. If you hadn’t suddenly appeared, Ms. Sutton, he probably would have stayed there instead of running over here to be with you.”

Anne Sutton’s hands clenched tightly. ”Nathan Fawcett and I were legally married. I had the right to know he was alive. For all of you to hide it from me was just too cruel.”

Chloe Chase let out a laugh after hearing her words. ”I know you were married. But, as far as I know, you only got together with Nathan back then to give him a child, to carry on the Fawcett Family bloodline, right? What, are you two deeply in love? Do you love him that much?”
