Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Chapter 1

Anne Sutton had nothing else to do at the moment, so she didn’t leave. She just sat down to the side.

She picked up her phone and glanced at it. Nathan Fawcett was sitting nearby, staring at her.

Anne Sutton scrolled to a news article, which happened to be about the production team of Evening Face, and it involved Stella Shields.

The last time she’d seen any news about it, it was about Stella Shields being replaced as the female lead.

But this time, the news was that Stella Shields had been cast as the second female lead.

Apparently, the script for the second female lead in Evening Face was also brilliant.

Anne Sutton looked up and glanced silently at Nathan Fawcett. She’d originally thought he was punishing Stella Shields, but now... ’This is no punishment. He’s obviously protecting her!’

After all, sometimes the second female lead becomes a bigger breakout star than the main one.

Anne Sutton’s mood instantly soured. She stood up and said to Nathan Fawcett, ”I have to go. When Ian wakes up, make sure he drinks the soup.”

Then she walked out.

Seeing her leave, Nathan Fawcett stood up, walked over, picked up the bowl of soup, and drank it all in one go.

He didn’t know if Anne Sutton had some kind of magic touch. It was the same ingredients, just a simple chicken soup, yet she could somehow make it taste better than the chef who had been working for their family for years.

Ian, who had been asleep, smelled the aroma and opened his eyes. ”Dad.”

Nathan Fawcett glanced at him. ”You’re awake?”

He glanced at the empty bowl and suddenly felt a bit awkward. ’Uh, I didn’t expect Ian to wake up so soon.’

Ian asked, ”Did Anne come over? I think I heard her voice.”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Mhm, she just left.”

Ian sat up, licking the corner of his mouth with his tongue. ”Did she bring me something to eat? I want some.”

’It smells so good, waaah!’

Nathan Fawcett poured the soup into a bowl and said, ”It’s hot. Wait a little longer.”

”Did you just drink some?” Ian asked, looking at Nathan Fawcett.

Nathan Fawcett glanced at his son. ”Am I not allowed to?”

”Anne gave that to me.”

”Who said that?” Nathan Fawcett replied. ”She made it for me. I’m only sharing a little with you because you’re my son.”

Having said that, Nathan Fawcett instantly felt justified. He got out another bowl and poured some for himself as well.

Ian didn’t know if he was telling the truth or not, so he just watched him from the side.

Anne Sutton had already gone downstairs when she suddenly remembered she’d forgotten the bag she brought with her. It contained things she needed to take to her office.

As she reached the doorway, she heard Ian say, ”Dad, why did you drink all the soup! I want more!”

”...”

Anne Sutton walked in and saw Nathan Fawcett holding a bowl, having just finished the soup.

’...What the hell...’

’Am I seeing things?’

’What is wrong with this guy?’

’What is he doing?’

Anne Sutton was completely dumbfounded. She asked Nathan Fawcett, ”What are you doing?”

Nathan Fawcett glanced at Anne Sutton, startled for a moment. He had no idea why she was back.

He asked, ”Why did you come back?”

Anne Sutton walked over, saw that the thermos was empty, and looked at Nathan Fawcett with suspicion. ”You drank this? You drank all the soup I brought for Ian?”

”I helped him drink it.” Seeing Anne Sutton’s fierce expression, Nathan Fawcett said, ”He’s just a little kid, he can’t drink that much. If I didn’t help, how could we have finished it?”

Ian looked at Anne Sutton. Hearing her say she had brought the soup for him, he instantly understood what had happened and was quick to tattle, ”Anne, was that soup for me? Dad said you made it for him, so he drank it all.”

”...” Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett in confusion. ”Is that so?”

Ian was an honest child who never lied.

Since he’d said it, it proved that Nathan Fawcett had really done just that.

Nathan Fawcett said, ”How can you take a child’s words seriously?”

”He really did,” Ian insisted. ”He drank last night’s soup too. I barely got to drink any. Anne’s soup is delicious.”

Compared to Nathan Fawcett, who would rather go against his own conscience than praise Anne Sutton, Ian was a sweet, caring boy, eager to praise Anne Sutton’s cooking to the high heavens.

Anne Sutton glared at Nathan Fawcett. She had been very angry, but now, seeing his innocent expression, she couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

”PFFT!”

His foolish expression was actually a little amusing to her.

When Nathan Fawcett saw her laugh, he instantly felt less awkward and asked, ”What are you laughing at?”

Anne Sutton said, ”If you like it, just say so next time. I could have brought more for you. I made a whole pot at home.”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Who said I like it?”

”Then don’t steal Ian’s next time. Look how pitiful he is.”

Anne Sutton added, ”Besides, this soup was specially made for his cold. You’re not sick.”

Nathan Fawcett asked, ”What’ll happen to me since I drank it?”

He was actually starting to get a little worried.

Anne Sutton glanced at him and said, ”Don’t worry, nothing much will happen. It’s just... maybe not so good for your kidneys.”

”What did you say?” Hearing that it wasn’t good for his kidneys, Nathan Fawcett’s expression instantly turned grim.

After all, a man’s dignity was on the line!

Anne Sutton watched his nervous reaction and quirked her lips into a smirk.

She sat down and looked at Ian. There was still a little less than half a bowl left for him. While he had been drinking this one bowl, Nathan Fawcett had already finished the rest.

Anne Sutton looked at Ian and said, ”Ian, come, I’ll feed you.”

When Ian saw Anne Sutton, he handed her the bowl. ”Thank you, Anne.”

Because Stella Shields had also told him to call her ”Mom” before, he couldn’t tell the two ”moms” apart, so he had started calling her Anne instead.

While feeding Ian, Anne Sutton asked, ”Stella Shields didn’t come today?”

’Didn’t she go around claiming Ian was her child?’

Hearing Anne Sutton’s question, Ian glanced nervously at Nathan Fawcett and said, ”Dad, can you not let her come over anymore? I hate her!”

Seeing how much Ian hated Stella Shields, Anne Sutton recalled the things Stella had said in front of Ian last time when Nathan Fawcett wasn’t around.

At the time, she’d thought Stella Shields was being too cruel for a mother, but now it was obvious. ’There’s no way she’s his birth mother!’

Anne Sutton said, ”Last time Ian was sick, I came over and happened to see Stella Shields bullying him.”

Nathan Fawcett looked at her, then at Ian. Hearing what Anne Sutton said, Ian nodded. ”Mhm, mhm.”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”I’ll tell her not to come anymore.”

Nathan Fawcett had never imagined that Stella Shields would bully Ian.

’She can’t be stupid enough to do something like that, can she?’

But he knew his own son all too well.

Ian wouldn’t lie.

If Ian didn’t like her, then he wouldn’t let Stella Shields come over anymore.

Hearing Nathan Fawcett’s words, Ian turned to Anne Sutton and said, ”Anne, can you stay with me forever, okay? I don’t want to see her again! I don’t want her to be my mom anymore! Anne is my mom. Anne’s cooking is the best.”

Hearing his words, Anne Sutton glanced at Nathan Fawcett, wondering what kind of person Ian’s mother was.

’It’s still too early to be talking about these things!’
