Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

When Anne Sutton saw them questioning her like this, her expression turned cold. She clarified, ”The reason I fired her is that I only ran into this situation this afternoon. That person was throwing their weight around using my name, but they didn’t even know who I was. They even tried to bully me.”

If you don’t believe me, go ahead and investigate.

As for the firing, I had Mr. Linden’s Butler Walters handle it. You can call Butler Walters in to get the story straight!”

’Damn it. I was the one wronged in this affair, and now I’m the scapegoat.’ Anne Sutton felt incredibly frustrated.

It was bad enough that her father had an illegitimate daughter, but now that daughter was causing her trouble under her name.

Chairman Grant listened to Anne Sutton and looked at her.

Nathan Fawcett spoke up. ”I trust Butler Walters.”

Chairman Grant glanced at him and said, ”Well, in that case, it seems Henry Underwood was behind this. Henry Underwood works for Charles Prescott! Charles has always been so meticulous when it comes to company matters. It’s quite surprising he would do something like this.”

”Then let’s just summon Henry Underwood!” Nathan Fawcett said. ”Bring him and Charles Prescott over. We’ll ask them and get to the bottom of this, won’t we?”

He had been going easy on Charles Prescott because of company matters, not pressing him too hard.

After all, the company would still need to rely on Charles Prescott in the future. He had the talent for it.

...

But for him to pull something like this was rather baffling.

Chairman Grant said, ”You have a point.”

With that, he had someone go and summon Charles Prescott and Henry Underwood.

...

Charles Prescott was in his office at that moment. President Sterling was there too, ranting to him, ”That Anne Sutton is just too much! I heard she got her sister a job at the company! And that woman is going around bullying everyone.”

He had bullied people himself, of course, but he couldn’t stand to see others do it.

Hearing this, Charles Prescott looked at President Sterling, his expression darkening. He was the one who had gotten Yvonne Evans into the company. ’Isn’t President Sterling cursing Anne Sutton just another way of cursing me?’

Charles Prescott said, ”Do you have this much free time on your hands?”

Chided by him, President Sterling gave an awkward laugh.

Just then, Henry Underwood walked in. ”President Prescott, someone from Chairman Grant is here to see you.”

”He and I have never seen eye to eye. Why would he be summoning me?”

Although, recently, Chairman Grant’s impression of Ethan Linden has soured because of his disobedience.

But...

He hadn’t cozied up to him because of it, however.

So Charles Prescott had no idea why Chairman Grant was looking for him.

Henry Underwood said, ”It’s about Yvonne Evans. When she joined the company, she took the spot of another girl who was supposed to be hired. Now that girl has gone to Chairman Grant and filed a complaint about Yvonne being parachuted in. They’re dealing with it right now.”

Hearing this, Charles Prescott looked at Henry Underwood. With a guilty expression, Henry said, ”I’m sorry.”

He hadn’t handled the matter properly, which was why it had blown up like this.

Charles Prescott stood up and glanced at President Sterling. From their conversation, President Sterling had already figured out that it wasn’t Anne Sutton who brought in Yvonne Evans—it was Charles Prescott.

As Charles Prescott walked out the door, President Sterling and Henry Underwood followed. President Sterling said, ”So Yvonne Evans wasn’t brought in by Anne Sutton. It was you all along, huh?”

Charles Prescott walked with his hands in his pockets. It wasn’t surprising that they had found out.

’When Sean Sutton came to me before, I didn’t want to agree. But now that things have turned out this way, I suppose I’ve repaid my debt to him.’

’At least now Sean Sutton shouldn’t come looking for me again!’

Henry Underwood followed behind Charles Prescott without a word.

They soon arrived at the conference room where Nathan Fawcett and the others were meeting. Charles Prescott walked in and saw Ethan Linden and the board members, led by Chairman Grant. He wasn’t surprised.

He just hadn’t expected Anne Sutton to be there as well.

The moment he entered, Anne Sutton’s gaze fell upon him.

Her glare was like a dagger, as if she wanted to stab him full of holes.

Chairman Grant looked at Charles Prescott and said, ”President Prescott, have a seat.”

The procedure was much the same as when Anne Sutton had arrived. Chairman Grant had Charles Prescott first look over Grace’s file.

Charles Prescott sat in his seat, looking at Grace’s profile. She was very beautiful...

She even looked a little like a younger Anne Sutton.

Anne Sutton had also been a top student back in school.

Plus, they both had a cool, aloof kind of beauty. Really...

A striking resemblance!

Charles Prescott stared at Grace’s photo for a long time...

Henry Underwood said, ”President Prescott.”

Henry Underwood’s prompt brought Charles Prescott back to his senses.

Charles Prescott looked at them and said, ”The company has always had its rules, and the requirements for hiring are ones I made crystal clear long ago. I also find it very regrettable that something like this happened within the company.”

”Regrettable?” Chairman Grant retorted. ”This was done by your man! Without your orders, why would Henry Underwood do such a thing? How would he dare?”

Hearing Chairman Grant question Charles Prescott, Henry Underwood quickly spoke up. ”Chairman Grant, this was my mistake! The girl who was hired, Yvonne Evans, is a relative of President Sutton. President Sutton came to see me that day. Since he’s Ms. Sutton’s father, I didn’t dare refuse him, so I thought I’d help him out. This whole situation is my fault. It has nothing to do with President Prescott.”

Having been by Charles Prescott’s side for many years, Henry Underwood was naturally very loyal.

How could he possibly implicate Charles Prescott in something like this?

Anne Sutton let out a cold laugh when she heard this.

’Who would have thought? For such a major issue, Henry Underwood just took all the blame himself.’

President Sterling, who was sitting to the side, looked at Anne Sutton and said, ”Speaking of which, isn’t this ultimately Ms. Sutton’s fault? Ever since Ms. Sutton married into the Fawcett Family, she’s treated them like her personal ATM. Nathan Fawcett isn’t even around anymore, yet all of us still have to pay for everything the Sutton Family needs. When their company was failing, we had to help them deal with it. And now her father dares to shove people into our company! What does he think the Fawcett Group is, his own private property?”

”...” Seeing the blame being shifted back onto her, Anne Sutton said, ”If that’s the case, I’d like to ask: Mr. Charles Prescott and I have been on bad terms ever since we broke up years ago. Why would he help my father with this?”

”Exactly!” President Sterling said. ”President Prescott would never do something like this to help your father. Things turned out this way probably because Ms. Sutton went to Henry Underwood herself! I support punishing both of them. What do you think, Mr. Linden?”

After speaking, he looked toward Ethan Linden.

Nathan Fawcett, sitting to the side, saw President Sterling look his way and retorted, ”What am I supposed to think?”

”Everyone knows Anne Sutton is your person now. With Mr. Linden sitting here, we have to at least consider your opinion. Even though you don’t care about the company or its future... you are, after all, the old chairman’s son. We have to show you some respect, don’t we?”

His tone was dripping with sarcasm.

Although he knew Ethan Linden was Chairman Fawcett’s son, he showed him no respect.

In his eyes, Charles Prescott and Miles Prescott were his true masters.

Nathan Fawcett slowly raised the corners of his mouth, his icy gaze landing on President Sterling. ”Show me respect? Since the day I returned, I’ve seen President Sterling target me at every turn. You’ve never once shown me any respect, so why bother with the sarcasm now?”
