Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Anne Sutton felt a headache coming on as she looked at her mother. She said, ”Why won’t you believe a single word I say? You haven’t seen Mrs. Shields in years, yet you believe her?”

Mrs. Sutton looked at Anne Sutton. ”She and I have always been good friends. She even wanted her son to marry you! She doesn’t mean any harm! It’s one thing that you didn’t want to marry Justin, but to go and steal Stella’s fiancé... that’s just too much! Everyone will think you’re heartless!”

”Why not say Stella is the one who stole from me?” Anne Sutton retorted. ”You speak so highly of the Shields family, so why don’t you tell me why they haven’t visited you once all these years? If you can’t even rely on your own parents, how can you rely on friends?”

’At first, Anne had also thought Mrs. Shields was genuinely good to her mother. Now, it seemed that was far from the truth.’

’Her own daughter ended up in such a state, and she still has the nerve to come here and cause trouble for my mother?’

’What a piece of work!’

Mrs. Sutton said to Anne Sutton, ”I’m the one who’s been busy these past few years! I was so busy taking care of you and Sharon that I cut off my social life completely. I couldn’t even make time for my own friends. Do you have any idea how hard it’s been for me, for this family?”

Seeing this, Sharon Sutton said, ”Mom, I’m sorry. You’ve worked too hard. Sis...”

She looked at Anne Sutton and, siding with her mother, tried to persuade her. ”Everyone knows that Ethan Linden is with Stella. Please, don’t be with him, okay? Think how sad this will make Mom! Mrs. Shields was furious when she came today. She said Mom spoils you.”

Even Sharon Sutton thought that Anne Sutton had stolen Ethan Linden.

But right now, Anne Sutton couldn’t very well explain that the man they thought was Ethan Linden was actually Nathan Fawcett.

Her mother would be one thing, but not Sharon. Sharon and David Hayes were getting along very well right now, and Anne didn’t want to bring any of this up in front of her.

Anne Sutton said, ”This is a misunderstanding. Mrs. Shields doesn’t know anything, and that doesn’t make her right. Ethan Linden is the one who wants to be with me! If he liked Stella Shields, they would have gotten together long ago. They wouldn’t have waited until now.”

”That’s just twisted logic,” Mrs. Sutton said, now completely convinced that Anne was in the wrong. ”No matter how much you like someone, if he doesn’t belong to you, he’s not yours! Have you forgotten your basic morals? Is this how I raised you?”

Just then, Nathan Fawcett walked over and stood in the doorway. ”Anne Sutton.”

Seeing him, Anne Sutton froze for a second. ”What are you doing here?”

’Shouldn’t he have taken Ian home by now?’

Nathan Fawcett surveyed the tense, hostile atmosphere in the hospital room. ’Good thing I came, otherwise...’

’She probably couldn’t handle this on her own.’

Nathan Fawcett had met Mrs. Sutton before his accident. She had been well back then, and had even cooked for him and Anne Sutton.

He knew she was a good person.

She was only this angry because she had mistaken his identity. She thought he was Ethan Linden, her son-in-law’s brother, getting involved with her own daughter-in-law.

Nathan Fawcett said politely to Mrs. Sutton, ”Hello.”

Seeing Nathan Fawcett, Mrs. Sutton said, ”You’re just in time! Mr. Linden, I was just about to have a word with you! You’re Stella’s fiancé, so why are you bothering my daughter? I heard from Anne that you’re Nathan Fawcett’s younger brother. If that’s the case, you should be respecting her as your sister-in-law, shouldn’t you?”

Her mother’s tone was incredibly stern. Afraid she would offend Nathan Fawcett, whose temper had never been the best, Anne quickly said, ”My mom isn’t well right now.”

Nathan Fawcett glanced at her, knowing what she was worried about. He wasn’t about to get angry with Mrs. Sutton over this.

Nathan Fawcett said politely, ”You’re right.”

Anne Sutton: ”...”

’He was so well-behaved, it was completely unlike him!’

Seeing him agree, Mrs. Sutton said, ”Since you think I’m right, then stay away from Anne from now on. Have her move out of the Fawcett residence. Now that you’re living there, it’s no longer appropriate for her to be there.”

It had been one thing when she didn’t know they were together. Now that she did, she just wanted Anne Sutton to move out of the Fawcett residence immediately, cut off all ties with Ethan Linden, and stop doing things that would upset the Shields family.

Hearing Mrs. Sutton’s words, Nathan Fawcett said, ”I can’t agree to that.”

’Ian was waiting for Anne to come home and take care of him.’

’He’s fond of Anne now, and he’d be upset if she weren’t around.’

’So naturally, he couldn’t agree to Mrs. Sutton’s demand.’

When Mrs. Sutton heard Nathan Fawcett refuse, she was taken aback. ’From the sound of it, he’s determined to stay entangled with Anne?’

Mrs. Sutton could only turn to Anne Sutton, hoping she would listen. ”If you still consider me your mother, you will break things off with this man right now. Never see him again, and stop interfering in his relationship with Stella.”

Mrs. Sutton saw Stella Shields as her best friend’s daughter and treated her exceptionally well.

Whenever Stella Shields visited, she was also incredibly polite to Mrs. Sutton.

For such a big star to be so down-to-earth in her presence, Mrs. Sutton had a very good impression of Stella Shields.

Anne Sutton said, ”I can’t do that.”

’Nathan Fawcett was her husband, after all.’

’She refused to let Stella Shields and her mother get away with twisting the truth like this.’

Hearing Anne’s refusal, Mrs. Sutton was furious. She had already gathered her things and said to Sharon, who was holding her arm, ”Don’t stop me.”

Seeing that she was about to leave, Nathan Fawcett explained, ”I have absolutely no relationship with Stella Shields, and Ian is not her child! You’ve misunderstood.”

Mrs. Sutton looked at him and said, ”Of course you’d say that to my face. But who doesn’t know you two have a child together? Stella’s mother told me that Stella is engaged to you and they’ll be getting married soon. Don’t think I don’t know. If you abandon her now, that would be truly despicable!”

’When her mother said this, Anne glanced at Nathan Fawcett. If she had been the one to tell him these things, he might not have believed her.’

’Now he could see for himself just what kind of person Stella Shields really was.’

Upon hearing this, Nathan Fawcett’s expression darkened.

’After all, he had always treated Stella Shields as Ethan Linden’s fiancée.’

’He never expected the Shields family to be thinking of him this way.’

Nathan Fawcett asked, ”Then what will it take for you to believe me?”

”I’m a dying woman anyway, so you don’t have to worry about me. I can’t tell you what to do, and you don’t have to listen to me.”

After speaking, she turned to leave, but after just a few steps, she fainted.

Her health was already poor, and after causing a scene for so long, she simply couldn’t take it anymore.

Sharon Sutton rushed to get a doctor, and soon a doctor and nurse arrived.

Nathan Fawcett stood to the side and asked, ”Where’s your hospital director?”

The staff at Second Hospital didn’t recognize Nathan Fawcett. Surprised by his question, one of them replied, ”Our director is very busy.”

Nathan Fawcett glanced at the staff member, then took out his phone and made a call.

Soon, the director who was supposedly ”very busy” rushed over.

He walked over, saw Nathan Fawcett, and greeted, ”Mr. Linden.”
