Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

After all...

She couldn’t just make her get an abortion, right?

Perhaps because she had been forced to have an abortion herself, Anne Sutton never considered telling Sharon to get rid of the baby.

Sharon asked, ”Will that really work?”

She knew their parents were more likely to listen to Anne.

”Mhm,” Anne said.

’Her talking to our parents is a lot better than Sharon asking me to steal the family register so she could secretly go and register her marriage with David Hayes!’

Anne Sutton looked at David Hayes. ”Listen here, Hayes. I’ll let the past be the past, but if you don’t treat Sharon well from now on, our entire family will make you regret it.”

She only had one little sister!

And she just had to fall for a guy like him. Anne Sutton felt helpless.

David Hayes nodded, his face a picture of sincerity. ”Don’t worry.”

After dinner, David and Sharon left.

Anne drove home alone.

In the car, David said to Sharon, ”Do you think your family will agree to us getting married?”

”Don’t worry!” Sharon said. ”I’m pregnant with your child now. My parents will agree. They just want me to be happy.”

David Hayes glanced at Sharon, taking her hand. ”Sharon, meeting you is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. By the way, didn’t your sister marry into the Fawcett family before? Did she get any of the Fawcett fortune?”

Sharon glanced at him. ”Why are you asking that?”

”I’m just curious!” David said. ”No matter how you look at it, your sister was Nathan Fawcett’s wife. Now that the rest of the Fawcett family is gone, shouldn’t she get a share of everything they owned?”

’If I’m with Sharon, and Anne can inherit the Fawcett fortune, won’t I get to reap the benefits too?’

Sharon said, ”I don’t know, she’s never talked to me about it. My sister was pregnant with Nathan Fawcett’s child, but she lost the baby. She’s been really down ever since.”

”That’s such a shame!” David said. ”If that baby was still around, everything the Fawcetts have would belong to your sister.”

”Forget it. Don’t talk about that. It’s all in the past.”

Now, everything the Fawcetts owned belonged to the Prescott father and son. It had nothing to do with them.

Sharon wasn’t an ambitious person, so she didn’t think about things like that.

Compared to being rich, she’d rather be with the person she loved and live as an ordinary person.

...

Anne drove home.

She parked the car by the gate.

Because they had met for dinner after she got off work, it was already almost midnight.

Anne walked in the door. The living room lights were on, and she saw that Nathan Fawcett was still up.

He was sitting on the sofa with his laptop open, video chatting with someone.

”You’re still up?” Anne asked.

He glanced at her and hummed in acknowledgment.

An old man’s voice came from the video call. ”Who’s that?”

”A friend,” Nathan said.

”What kind of friend?” the old man asked. ”A girlfriend? Ian, you’re not young anymore. You really should find yourself a girlfriend! You can’t just stay single forever.”

”I know,” Nathan replied.

”Alright, I’m hanging up then. It’s late, you should get some sleep.”

Soon, the person on the other end hung up.

Anne Sutton watched Nathan Fawcett, noticing he seemed quite happy during that call.

’It must be someone he’s close to.’

”Who was that?” Anne asked.

Nathan glanced at her. ”My maternal grandfather.”

”Oh...” Anne said. ”Your grandfather seems very kind.”

’His mother never doted on him, but his grandfather sounds much kinder.’

Nathan Fawcett said, ”His health isn’t very good, so he’s already retired. He’s been vacationing abroad and doesn’t come back often.”

That was why he was the one handling the Linden Family’s affairs.

Anne said, ”From the way he was talking to you, it seems like he really dotes on you.”

Nathan Fawcett looked at her but didn’t answer. Instead, he asked a question of his own, ”Why are you back so late?”

Anne said, ”Sharon asked me out to dinner, so I went. She’s pregnant and wants to get married. She wanted me to meet her boyfriend.”

Nathan Fawcett asked, ”Why did she want you to meet him?”

Anne got herself a glass of water and sat down. She had just gotten back and was a bit tired, so she was glad for the chance to rest her feet. ”You have no idea. This boyfriend of hers... I’ve met him before. He’s a total scumbag. Back then, he even got his other woman pregnant. My sister even tried to kill herself over it. I just can’t believe they’re still together, and now Sharon’s pregnant. She’s too scared to tell our parents, so she came to me. She even wanted me to get her family register for her so she could go get married.”

After Anne finished, she noticed Nathan Fawcett staring at her, listening patiently.

Before, Anne had only been with him for the sake of their child.

She rarely told him about her own affairs.

She had just brought it up casually, not expecting him to listen so intently.

She coughed, a little embarrassed. ”You probably don’t want to hear about all this, do you?”

”It’s fine.” To him, hearing about her life wasn’t a bother.

’It’s a good chance to understand her better.’

Anne asked, ”What would you do if you were in my shoes?”

She was usually a decisive person.

But with this matter, she wanted to hear an outsider’s opinion.

Nathan Fawcett didn’t offer any advice. ”This is your sister’s business. What do you plan to do?”

”I’m planning to tell my parents. To be honest, I don’t support them being together at all, but now they even have a child on the way. We can’t just force them to break up, right? What do you think?”

”Mhm,” Nathan said.

Anne looked at the cold, aloof man and felt it had been pointless asking him.

He wasn’t interested in these things and offered no advice.

Anne didn’t bother him further and asked with concern, ”Aren’t you going to bed?”

”In a minute.”

”I’m going to take a shower then,” Anne said.

Upstairs, she went to peek in on Ian first, and then went to take a shower.

Nowadays, after coming home from a busy day, she felt strange if she didn’t check on Ian.

...

The next morning, after getting up, Anne Sutton went to the hospital to see her mother.

She also planned to tell her about Sharon.

Just as she walked in the door, she saw that Auntie Shields was there too.

When Auntie Shields saw Anne, she said, ”Anne.”

”Mom,” Anne said.

Mrs. Sutton glanced at Anne. Their last conversation hadn’t gone well; Anne was unwilling to get married, and there was nothing she could do.

So, her expression wasn’t very pleasant when she saw Anne now.

Auntie Shields said, ”You were just talking about how much you missed Anne, so why do you look so unhappy now that she’s here?”

Mrs. Sutton said, ”All she does is make me angry.”

Auntie Shields said, ”You can’t force matters of the heart. If Anne doesn’t want to be with Justin, then let it go.”

Auntie Shields wasn’t one to force things.

After all, it wasn’t like her son couldn’t find a partner.

She had even given Anne Sutton a bracelet last time, but since Anne wasn’t willing, she wouldn’t push it. Instead, she found herself comforting Mrs. Sutton.

Mrs. Sutton said, ”It’s my fault! I’m the one who has let Justin down, and I’ve let you down too.”
