Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

”I left it here before,” Charles Prescott said. ”I was in such a rush when I left that I forgot it.”

Anne Sutton glanced at him, then at the security guard nearby. ”Have someone go in with him,” she said. ”Make sure he gets his things and leaves immediately.”

Hearing Anne Sutton’s order, the security guard nodded respectfully. ”Yes.”

Charles Prescott stared at her. ”I’m just grabbing something, not trying to steal. Is this really necessary?”

”So, are you going or not?” Anne Sutton said. ”Move your car. You’re blocking my way.”

Charles Prescott listened to her and got in his car.

He drove his car away, allowing Anne Sutton to drive hers in. Unlike last time, Charles Prescott had shown up in a different car today.

This one was even more expensive than the Cullinan he had driven last time.

The young women who saw his car were beside themselves with excitement.

Anne Sutton, however, wasn’t interested in the slightest.

In her eyes, everything Charles Prescott owned had simply been taken from the Fawcett family.

Miles Prescott had been Master Fawcett’s adopted son for many years and had also worked at the Fawcett Group all that time. In a way, they had earned what they received.

But to go so far as to try and eliminate Master Fawcett’s biological grandson just to get their hands on the Fawcett family’s assets... it was utterly depraved.

This was why Anne Sutton couldn’t stand the sight of them.

Charles Prescott drove onto the property, parked the car, and got out.

Anne Sutton parked her car as well.

He saw her and asked, ”Ethan Linden isn’t here at the moment?”

”Why are you asking about him?” Anne Sutton shot Charles Prescott a glare.

”Can’t I show a little concern?” Charles Prescott said.

”What? You think you can do whatever you please just because he’s not here?”

The corner of Charles Prescott’s mouth twitched. ”I never said that. If he wants this house, he can have it.”

He looked at Anne Sutton, speaking as if they were on intimate terms. ”I asked you to put in a good word for me, but you couldn’t even bring yourself to say one nice thing on my behalf.”

”Did you really think I’d put in a good word for you?” Anne Sutton retorted. ”You know damn well I want you dead.”

”You really hate me that much?” Charles Prescott watched her, a faint smile playing on his handsome face.

Anne Sutton took her things from the car, her expression cold, clearly having no intention of engaging with him.

”How have you been lately?” Charles Prescott asked.

”I’m great, as long as I don’t have to see you,” Anne Sutton said. ”And another thing... Charles Prescott, if you come looking for me again, I’ll pay you a visit at your office. If you like being entangled with me so much, I don’t mind letting people think there’s something going on between us.”

In a situation like that, he’s the one with everything to lose!

She couldn’t care less about her own reputation.

After all, she’d even married Nathan Fawcett. Why would she care about something like this?

The corner of Charles Prescott’s mouth twitched, and a hint of helplessness surfaced in his deep-set eyes. ”I didn’t do anything last time, Anne. I just can’t stand seeing you with Ethan Linden. I was the one who met you first! Wasn’t I? No one knew you before I did. But I had to watch you fall for Nathan Fawcett, and now Ethan Linden. You liked them, but you’ve never liked me like that.”

Even though he was the one who had been a scumbag, he knew she didn’t care in the slightest who he was with.

She just turned a blind eye whenever he was with other women.

She didn’t care about him at all!

It made him feel as if she had never loved him at all.

”I’m not one of those naive girls you can brainwash,” Anne Sutton said. ”I would never fall for a scumbag who has no basic morals and treats women like toys. I have no idea where you’re getting the audacity to come here and say these things to my face.”

”I don’t care what you think,” Charles Prescott said. ”I’ll always love you. Even if you do end up with Ethan Linden one day, I won’t give up.”

”...” Anne Sutton stared at the man before her. She realized his attitude had done a complete one-eighty since the last time he showed up.

He had acted like he wanted her before, too.

But never this blatantly.

For the sake of his career, he had been willing to ignore or abandon her at a moment’s notice.

But now, he was suddenly acting like he was madly in love with her!

It was incomprehensible.

Charles Prescott gave her one last look, then walked through the door with a smile.

He headed for the main house. It had been vacant ever since the Prescott family moved out, and not a single light was on.

The rear building, where she and Nathan Fawcett were staying, was much livelier by comparison.

Anne Sutton went inside and carried her things into the kitchen. The housekeeper, who was standing nearby, looked at her and asked, ”Ma’am, why are you back at this hour?”

”I came back to make something for Ian.”

”Why don’t I do it?” the housekeeper offered.

”He’s sick right now, so his appetite isn’t great,” Anne Sutton explained.

”That’s true. The young master always prefers your cooking,” the housekeeper said. ”Oh, by the way, is Mr. Prescott back? I thought I heard his voice just now. He’s not planning on moving back in, is he?”

The housekeeper had also grown to strongly dislike Charles Prescott.

She had been by Anne Sutton’s side for a long time and had seen more than enough of Charles Prescott’s despicable behavior.

”Don’t worry,” Anne Sutton said. ”He’s just here to pick something up. He’s not coming back!”

Anne Sutton started making the soup. While it simmered, she ate some of the food the housekeeper had prepared. Once the soup was ready, she packed it up and took it back to the hospital.

Nathan Fawcett was still in the hospital room. He had moved his laptop into the room so he could look after Ian around the clock, working from his bedside.

Anne Sutton watched him, so dedicated to their son that he neglected to eat or sleep, refusing to even go home. As she stood there observing his focused expression, she suddenly felt a pang of envy for Ian.

’If my child were still alive, would Nathan have doted on them like this?’

’But my child hadn’t been as lucky as Ian, who had a father to care for him so meticulously.’

Nathan Fawcett looked up and saw Anne Sutton standing in the doorway. His expression instantly turned cold. ”Why are you here?”

The words came out instinctively, his tone unfriendly. He regretted them the moment they left his mouth.

’I was supposed to listen to the butler and try to be nice to her,’ he thought, ’but for some reason, I just can’t be gentle whenever I see her.’

Anne Sutton, for her part, was already used to this side of him.

After all, since becoming Ethan Linden, his personality was already much more restrained than when he had been Nathan Fawcett.

Anne Sutton placed the thermos on a nearby table. ”I brought some soup for Ian. I’ll pour him a bowl.”

She poured some into a bowl, planning to let it cool slightly before giving it to Ian.

The moment she poured the soup, a rich aroma filled the room. Nathan Fawcett hadn’t eaten much for lunch; he had a weak stomach, and his appetite was even worse. Eating always felt like a chore.

He had given Anne Sutton a gift earlier, but she had disdainfully tossed it to her assistant, which had soured his mood and made him skip the meal.

Now, smelling the fragrant soup, he felt his stomach start to GRUMBLE.

Anne Sutton looked at Ian. ”How long has he been asleep?”

Nathan Fawcett suppressed his hunger. ”For a little while.”

”I’ll leave the soup for him, then,” Anne Sutton said. ”He should be waking up soon.”

Nathan Fawcett didn’t mention that Ian had, in fact, just fallen asleep.
