Daddy Always Gets Jealous

At night, with the window open, rain began to pour and the wind roared, chilling to the bone—a cold was caught!

These past few years, a simple cold or fever would turn severe, the lingering aftereffects from giving birth that year.

She faintly remembered, before she had fully recovered postpartum, standing by the study door, overhearing Gu Jizhou telling Yunqing, ”Auntie, from the start, I had never intended to keep that child—”

Her suspicions confirmed, she staggered towards the apartment, recklessly dashing into the torrential rain, desperate to escape this suffocating place.

Taking a taxi to Qiao Qiao’s home, she was soaked to the bone; then came a serious illness, months of sickness, nearly losing her life.

Thinking back, her thoughts turned to her child—Che Huan gazed steadily at the little one, wondering if her daughter were still here, would she be this big by now?

She must be just as endearing as this little one!

The little one stayed by Che Huan’s side, heavy with sighs, ”If I hadn’t come looking for you today, what would have happened? You really scared me to death.”

Che Huan grasped the little one’s hand, squeezing it firmly, warmth flooding her heart.

The little one pursed her lips, ”By the way, Huanhuan, when you called me, why didn’t you say anything? There was no sound?”

A phone call?

She hadn’t called the little one, had she?

Suddenly, she remembered the chief at home. Could it have been the chief who had called the little one? But as smart as it was, it couldn’t possibly recognize the characters, right? How could it make a phone call, and know to call the little one?

It must be her overthinking; she probably accidentally dialed the phone in a daze.

The little one exhaled a sigh, ”You must be very sick!”

...

Rong Ma watched quietly from the side, then slipped out of the hospital room, turning to Uncle Lu in the VIP ward’s living room, ”The sir asked you to return a phone call.”

Uncle Lu responded and stepped onto the balcony, closing the balcony door behind him, ”Sir.”

”Mm,” Huo Jinnan sat in his study, slender fingers holding a cigarette as he looked through the information Huo Bei had just given him, more comprehensive than the previous one.

The information listed Che Huan’s birthdate, parents, her life’s ups and downs, with meticulous detail, even including her menstrual cycle highlighted for notice.

Uncle Lu stood on the balcony, not hearing the sir’s voice for a long while, yet the call hadn’t disconnected; the sound of fingers flipping through pages was audible, waiting in silence.

Remembering Rong Ma’s expression earlier, a few minutes later he seemed to catch on, ”The young master said he received a call from Miss Che today, found it strange that there was no sound, and insisted on checking after school. So, I took the young master to Miss Che’s place.”

While Huo Jinnan was looking, he hummed lightly in acknowledgment again.

Uncle Lu glanced back towards the hospital room, ”Upon reaching Miss Che’s place, the door was slightly ajar. Finding it odd, the young master and I entered, only to find Miss Che seriously ill in the bedroom, already delirious. By the time we got her to the hospital, the doctors said her fever had surpassed forty degrees, dangerously high. Any later and a few more hours could have meant life or death. Lucky we got her here on time.”

Huo Jinnan’s brow furrowed, ”And now?”

Uncle Lu softly spoke up, ”They’ve administered medication, the high fever hasn’t subsided, but she has regained consciousness.”

Huo Jinnan put away the documents, locked them in a drawer, ”Find a better doctor.”

”Sir, the young master already found the best doctor.” Uncle Lu stood there, waiting for further instruction, but soon the call ended.
