High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1448: Chapter 192 My Husband

The mirror Zheng Qing referred to was naturally not the kind used daily for grooming and reflection.

It was neither the kind of enchanted mirror that Dylan’s classmate had, which could provide dressing advice in a shrieking voice. The mirror Zheng Qing mentioned was the World in the Mirror.

When Furry Bean reported to him the status of the hunt, mentioning that the two demons had disappeared deep into the World in the Mirror, the young scholarship student felt a strong sensation—it was time.

Time to bring Zhu Si back from the World in the Mirror to the real world.

Time to capture the Faceless Demon and help Jiang Yu let go of her emotional hang-ups.

When two unrelated threads converge, that point of intersection becomes the key to solving the problem. The prophecy Mr. Wu mentioned in a previous lesson, about ’the threads of destiny intertwining,’ likely referred to this.

”Do you plan on entering the World in the Mirror?”

Jiang Yu immediately grasped the implications of the warlock’s words, her initially supportive tone slipping a little, and a trace of unease appeared on her face: ”The World in the Mirror is a very dangerous place, neither an illusory world nor reality... Even registered wizards could lose their way in there, and for us, it is still a bit too early to venture into that place.”

Unlike wizards born to commoners, as a member of a wizarding family, Jiang Yu was all too aware of the dangers of magical taboos such as the World in the Mirror and the Deeps of Starry Sky.

Her advice to Zheng Qing, though direct, was also somewhat tactful.

Not outright telling the warlock ’a freshman like you entering the World in the Mirror is practically seeking death’ was already quite polite.

Zheng Qing fiddled with the Red String on his wrist, lowering his eyelids to gaze at the Mystical Grain leaf tied at the end of the string, and responded: ”I have been to the World in the Mirror, I know the dangers there... but I have a friend inside, she can help.”

The matter of Zhu Si was only slightly known to a few Hunters of the Absolution Hunting Team who had trained together at the time.

Zheng Qing briefly described his last encounter in the World in the Mirror—he didn’t mention Mr. Wu, nor why he was in the World in the Mirror, simply stating it was an accident.

An accident that led him into the World in the Mirror, an accident that brought him to a Little Witch. Watching her in her tattered robe, groping alone in the darkness, looking at her nearly empty food illustration album, and seeing her with only one matchstick left.

The study room was deathly quiet.

Whether it was Gouzi, Li Meng, or even the furry bear, all looked up, listening earnestly to the warlock’s calm narration. This matter had been bottled up in his heart for a very long time, and although he acted like nothing was wrong on a daily basis, every night when his dreams returned to the World in the Mirror, he could hear the screams behind him as he left the mirror.

He could only comfort himself, saying that it was a trick by the Mirror demons, that Zhu Si must still be hiding in some corner inside the mirror, continuing to search for her mother.

But comfort is just that because reality is often too cruel.

So cruel that people choose to bury their heads in the sand like ostriches and then lie to themselves, saying, it’s alright, it’s alright.

Zheng Qing was not an ostrich.

Neither were any of the young wizards present.

Jiang Yu extended her arms as if wanting to give him a consoling hug, then realized it was inappropriate and quickly retracted one arm, instead patting the warlock’s back with the other hand.

”Let’s go together,” she said softly: ”This is not something you have to face alone.”

Zheng Qing forced a smile, showing an awkward expression. He understood what the witch meant—he was not alone, and Zhu Si or the Faceless Demon were not his troubles alone.

”How do you plan on getting there?” Xiao Xiao coughed lightly, nudging the topic forward a step.

Zheng Qing dropped the awkward smile from his face.

”...There should be a way to enter the World in the Mirror from the library,” he answered with some uncertainty: ”As far as I know, every mirror is connected to the World in the Mirror, so after finding the magic ritual to enter, just find a mirror and that should do it...”

”Naive,” Xiao Xiao shook her head: ”Books that describe such magic rituals are all stored in the deepest part of the library, strictly guarded by Mr. Octopus... The school would never allow those dangerous magical knowledges to spread freely.”

Zheng Qing was stunned for a moment, then turned to look at Jiang Yu.

The witch raised her hands in a gesture of surrender.

”It’s even less likely that the elders at home would tell us those dangerous magic rituals,” she said with a bitter smile: ”I know the dangers within the mirror because when I was little, the elders always liked to scare us with the terrifying consequences of those rituals.”

Zheng Qing’s gaze swept over the other companions.

”I don’t know either,” Liu Fei Fei said with a blush, lowering her head.

”Maybe we could ask the Wandering Wizard, he must have a way,” Nicholas reasoned with the logic of a genuine Beta Town resident—illegal magical dealings should be resolved by those suspected of being Black Wizards.

Zheng Qing shook his head.

Ever since he learned about his origins, he had been very cautious around wizards from the Wandering Wizard to the Moon Council, and he had no intention of associating with them casually.

”Hey, why aren’t you looking at me?” Li Meng, sitting on the floor, called out somewhat displeased.

Zheng Qing was forced to lower his head and glance at her.

Then the Little Witch sighed, shaking her head: ”How would I know something even my cousin doesn’t... Li Neng doesn’t know either. Can your dog take you in?”

The Furry Bean nodded solemnly as the Little Witch spoke, and then, like Li Meng, lifted a paw, patting Furry Bean’s dog head.

Furry Bean comfortably pulled his ears back.

”Meow~!”

It answered softly, meaning it could only lead the way but was unable to take anyone into that world that lies between illusion and reality.

”How did you get in last time?” Xin Fat Man showed the keenness of a Journalist.

”It was in a dream,” Zheng Qing answered helplessly but still carefully described the situation to his companions: ”...In the dream, I went to a pavilion, which should be a pavilion somewhere in the school, called the Mirror Pavilion, and there was a mirror in that pavilion, that mirror...”

Zheng Qing recalled for a moment, eventually shaking his head: ”...That mirror has no name.”

”Actually, I’ve always been curious, how did you know in your dream that you weren’t just dreaming but actually entering the World in the Mirror?” Xiao Xiao adjusted her glasses, adding emphasis: ”What I mean is, how do you know that what you entered was the ’real World in the Mirror,’ and not just one of your delusions?”

Zheng Qing blinked.

By himself, of course, he couldn’t distinguish between the real World in the Mirror and mere delusions.

”Someone told me, in my dream,” he replied earnestly: ”A very reliable person... Jiang Yu has seen him too, it’s Mr. Wu from my family.”

The witch’s face showed a hint of realization.

The Mr. Wu who was able to reconstruct Zheng Qing’s physical body, and freely traverse dreams and the World in the Mirror, probably didn’t find it a difficult task.
