High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1419: Chapter 166 Dog’s Name

Although Gouzi had found traces of the Black Mountain Goat, Zheng Qing did not intend to immediately gather the entire Absolution Hunting Team of hunters to search for the missing black goat.

On one hand, it was Wednesday today, and there were classes tomorrow morning. It was also nearing curfew in the evening, so Zheng Qing could not, for the sake of a black goat, lead the hunting team in violating a dozen or so school rules and disciplines.

After all, he was still under school probation.

On the other hand, the young wizard also felt that this matter required long-term consideration. The missing Black Mountain Goat was vaguely related to some existences in the depths of Starry Sky, which meant great danger; theoretically, he should report this clue to the school; but since Gouzi was also related to those Outer Gods, it could not become a known guide.

”So, I plan to spend some time on Saturday and Sunday for Gouzi to take us to check out the clues,” Zheng Qing said to his two roommates. ”We will not approach the danger too closely... we just need to confirm the existence of that black goat, then immediately retreat and report its whereabouts to the School Works Committee.”

Choosing Saturday and Sunday was to allow for more ample time; and having the Absolution Hunting Team confirm it would avoid the risk of Gouzi being publicly exposed in the school’s view.

This arrangement took into account all concerns and was indeed very prudent.

”The only problem is that final exams are next week. Are you sure you want to follow Gouzi on an adventure this weekend?” Xin Fat Man reminded.

Zheng Qing hesitated for a few seconds.

His mind passed through the meeting with Lin Guo this afternoon, the hidden melancholy beneath the little warlock’s smiling face; the anxiety and unease on the little warlock’s face recently; the reliable faces of the Absolution Hunting Team.

”I have great confidence in everyone.” The young scholarship student finally confirmed his choice, smiling: ”Our daily academic performance is there for all to see. At most, we will get a few less distinction in the exams... no one will be held back a grade. Perhaps falling short this year might mean making greater progress next year and even winning the ’Most Improved Award’.”

”And that black goat certainly won’t wait in the same place for us... for several weeks.”

Due to the large number of subjects and the complexity of student electives, final exams generally last for two weeks. Zheng Qing could not expect the black goat, missing for a long time and found by Gouzi, to honestly stay put for two weeks.

Moreover, no one knew what changes might occur over the next two weeks. Due to Satoguya, Zheng Qing had previously borrowed a lot of materials about Outer Gods from the library, among which what impressed him the most was that magical creatures polluted by the Starry Sky would become more corrupt as time went on.

One day earlier, one more day’s safety.

Today is Wednesday, and in a few hours, it will be Thursday, less than fifty hours away from Saturday. Zheng Qing planned to gather the Absolution Hunting Team for preparations after the practice lesson on Friday afternoon. If possible, he would like to set off on Friday evening. But considering that the black goat might be hiding in a corner of the Silent Forest, and the forest at night was not friendly to several first-year students, he finally decided to schedule the departure time early Saturday morning.

Before that, the Absolution Hunting Team must make corresponding preparations.

”Having said that...” Xin Fat Man scratched his head and glanced at Xiao Xiao before immediately retracting his gaze. Even if he wanted to wait a bit longer, to drag it out until after the exams, he wouldn’t seek out the Doctor as his ally. Doctor Xiao could probably get the highest score in all subjects even if he studied one week less than everyone else.

”Do you have any other suggestions?” Zheng Qing glanced at Xin Fat Man.

Xin Fat Man let out a deep sigh, removed his hand from his head, and spread it out in front of him: ”You are the team leader; what you say goes... but what about this Gouzi? Are you going to have it follow you these next few days?”

Hearing Xin Fat Man mention himself, Gouzi straightened up its upper body even more, looking at Zheng Qing with shining eyes, which gave the young scholarship student goosebumps.

”No, it has other tasks.” Zheng Qing immediately dismissed Xin Fat Man’s words.

Hearing that it couldn’t follow Zheng Qing, Gouzi’s ears instantly drooped, and its tail wasn’t wagging as energetically as before. But soon, when Zheng Qing placed a glass bottle in front of it, its ears perked up again and its tail whooshed like a windmill.

”What’s this?” Xin Fat Man studied the contents of the glass bottle and speculated, ”Dragon’s Wing? Silkworm skin? Ninfus’s placental sac? Or...”

”It’s not that complicated, just some snake molt,” Zheng Qing shook his head, dismissing those bizarre guesses, ”Remember Liu Fei Fei’s big snake? This is some of the skin it shed in the school last year...”

”You plan to have Gouzi find the Faceless Demon?” Xiao Xiao raised an eyebrow.

”That little monster won’t be more dangerous than Professor Trudeau,” Zheng Qing affirmed Doctor Xiao’s guess, adding, ”And even if there’s danger, this guy here will be the first to run away, right?...I have great confidence in its talent.”

Saying so, he petted Gouzi’s head.

Gouzi ’meowed’ solemnly twice.

Zheng Qing found himself getting slightly used to its meowing.

”How do you know whether this snake molt was left by Liu Fei Fei’s pet snake before or after the Faceless Demon stole its identity?” Xin Fat Man keenly pointed out a potential flaw in Zheng Qing’s plan.

”I don’t know,” the young cost student replied, ”But what difference does it make? The outcome couldn’t get any worse. Besides, even if we can’t find the Faceless Demon, finding the remains of the pet snake is still some progress.”

Hearing this possibility, the dormitory suddenly became much quieter.

Only Gouzi was still trying hard to stuff its nose into the mouth of the glass bottle in Zheng Qing’s hand, to catch the faint scent of the snake shedding fragments in the air.

...

...

After Gouzi left, the topic of conversation in dorm 403 didn’t end right away.

Because Xin Fat Man thought of a new problem.

”Do you plan to keep calling it ’Gouzi’?” Xin Fat Man held a small box of popcorn chicken, with Tuan Tuan squatting on top of his head, occasionally throwing a piece up from below to be agilely caught in Fat Cat’s mouth.

”What?” Zheng Qing, eyeing the snacks in Xin Fat Man’s hands and considering whether to snatch a few to eat, did not immediately grasp his question.

”I mean that dog. Are you planning to keep calling it Gouzi?” Xin Fat Man explained patiently, ”Even Tuan Tuan has a pretty name...”

”Oh!” Zheng Qing realized, shrugged his shoulders, and casually replied, ”Then let’s call it Little Grey... Li Meng’s pigeon, Lin Guo’s Black Mountain Goat, they all got named like this.”

”Are you really planning to compete with a twelve-year-old kid?” Xiao Xiao teased.

”Then you pick a name,” Zheng Qing was quite indifferent to the matter; he just wanted to crawl into his soft, fluffy bed and comfortably snore his way through the night.

”How about Grey Fruit?” Xin Fat Man raised his hand enthusiastically, ”That dog started off as annoying as a fly... And then it was discovered by you near the Cat Fruit Tree.”
