High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1447: Chapter 191: Starting from the Mirror

The window was tightly closed.

Sunlight passed through the transparent glass, falling between the red flowerpots on the window ledge, where the long leaves of the Squid-foot Grass spread wildly, greedily sucking up the sunlight from the sky.

Zheng Qing stood in front of the flowerpots, next to a narrow desk.

On the left, sat Xiao Xiao and Banna, nestled in red round chairs, with Karl-Strauss’s ”Philosophy of Magic” and Professor Yao’s classroom notes spread on the table; on the right, stood Liu Fei Fei and Nicholas, Liu Fei Fei biting her lip nervously, while Nicholas put his hand on her shoulder with a serious expression.

Li Meng squatted back down to the floor, pressing on Furry Bean’s head, looking towards her older cousin. Jiang Yu crossed her arms, gazing at Zheng Qing, her eyes showing a hint of inquiry.

Zheng Qing repeated the message Furry Bean had conveyed to him once again, only this time he described it in more detail, adding some of his own conjectures.

”So,” Jiang Yu finally concluded: ”You think those demons intend to harm the school... They plan to summon some magical creatures from the Silent Forest to attack First University?”

One must admit that to the average person, Zheng Qing’s guess seemed rather absurd.

Whether it’s the tribes of magical creatures in the Silent Forest or those slightly troublesome demons mentioned by Furry Bean, they might pose a significant threat to these first-year young wizards, but for First University, they hardly counted as trouble. To call them an itch would be an overstatement.

Zheng Qing fidgeted with the red string tied around his wrist, adorned with a leaf from the Mystical Grain, feeling somewhat impatient.

He couldn’t tell his companions that in this world, there is a miraculous Ancient Tree called Xuan Huang Wood, the fruits of which could help demons purify their bloodlines and help wizards resist demon aura. He also couldn’t reveal that this Ancient Tree was growing inside the Black Prison, already blooming and about to bear fruit—the demons stirring outside the school were not targeting First University, but rather the Black Prison hidden behind it.

It was as if seeing one cockroach in the kitchen meant there were dozens or even hundreds hidden in unseen corners. Similarly, spotting two demons at the entrance of Silent Forest by First University meant that who knows how many terrifying creatures were already lurking in, or even throughout Buji Island.

The Warlock perhaps sensed the unease in Zheng Qing’s heart.

Dr. leaned forward slightly, reaching out to pat Zheng Qing’s arm.

”Don’t worry too much, the school must be planning something big. It’s not surprising that the demons are stirring,” Xiao Xiao thought Zheng Qing’s conjecture was a bit exaggerated: ”...We must trust those Great Divinors; they should have made ample preparations.”

If diviners could be fully trusted, then there wouldn’t have been two Witch Demon Wars, and this world wouldn’t have so many contradictions, disputes, or even deaths, Zheng Qing sarcastically thought to himself.

But at the same time, Xiao Xiao’s words also triggered a memory for him.

”Divination!” The young cost student exclaimed, as realization dawned on him, ”Do you remember what the Nomadic Fish-man’s God, ’Yagneg’ said last time we went to Spring Guest?”

Xiao Xiao flipped open his black notebook.

He soon found the notes he had made at the time.

”There are two sections,” he cleared his throat and began to read: ”The evil gaze looming over the land... huge chunks of flesh, many tentacles, and a big mouth dripping with mucus... tentacles extending from the sky to the ground, catching one innocent after another... rivers dry under the starlight, forests burn under the moonlight, evil shadows roam everywhere, thunderous noises echoing over the lakes, shattering the white tower! The whole world is trembling!”

He spoke rapidly and kept frowning, clearly not very convinced by this divination.

He was not the only one holding this view.

”I’ve always felt this divination isn’t reliable,” Xin Fat Man strained as he bent down, whispering to Li Meng, ”Have you ever seen a diviner speak a whole basketful of words? They’d rather replace a sentence with a single character... This Yagneg talks too much, no wonder it’s merely a totem of the Nomadic Fishman Tribe.”

”The school is not safe!” Zheng Qing glared at Fat Man, turned to the others, and emphasized, ”Didn’t the divination mention ’Law Books and Spells cannot protect you, walls cannot protect you, castles cannot protect you’ ’If we do nothing, more and more innocents will fall!’ ”

”So, what do you want us to do?” Fat Man straightened up, spread his hands, looking innocent, ”The final exams are coming soon... and according to the divination, the danger comes from the Deeps of Starry Sky, that has nothing to do with the Demons of the Silent Forest, right?”

”Compared to those Demons, I’m more worried about the final exams.” Li Meng also raised her hand, meekly reminding, while also looking for allies, ”Right, Nicolas... you wouldn’t want there to be problems with the finals either!”

Nicolas smiled awkwardly, his gaze somewhat evasive.

Liu Fei Fei looked at him worriedly, while Jiang Yu bent down, grabbed the stuffed bear, and forcefully stuffed its paw into the Little Witch’s mouth.

Li Meng pouted, her face full of anger.

She was speaking the truth!

The stuffed bear, with tear-filled eyes, looked at its own paw, wanting to pull it out of the Little Witch’s mouth, but lacked the courage. It could only console itself, anyway there’s no flesh or blood, it doesn’t hurt, it doesn’t hurt.

Zheng Qing took a light breath.

Not long ago, during a lesson, his teacher had also told him a prophecy—

”The first weekend of early June... threads of destiny intertwined... all creatures return to their places... the stars return to the Starry Sky... the distant return home... foes face each other, blood pervades... all happens in the second May.”

Zheng Qing looked up at the calendar hanging on the study room wall.

Today is June 5th, Friday.

Tomorrow is the first weekend of early June, and also this year’s second May.

Zheng Qing was certain that something was bound to happen this weekend. Compared to this imminent change, the final exams scheduled for next week seemed rather distant.

”Let’s leave this matter to the school,” Xiao Xiao advised as well, ”Given it involves Demons and the tribes of magical creatures in the Silent Forest, it’s beyond our capability.”

”The school can’t even handle incidents that occur on campus, and you expect them to have time to go to the Silent Forest or the World in the Mirror to capture Demons?” Zheng Qing replied sarcastically.

Liu Fei Fei’s pet, Lin Guo’s Black Mountain Goat, all were incidents that happened at the school, but to date, the school has not given a satisfactory response.

”Then where do we start.” Jiang Yu made her stand.

Zheng Qing looked at her appreciatively, quietly said two words:

”Mirrors.”
