High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1409: Chapter 156: Pursuing the Criminal

”Perhaps we can ask Professor Yi to perform a divination to prove it.”

Zheng Qing suggested, full of hope.

Xiao Xiao shook his head.

”Professor Trudeau is the head of the Anti-Curse Teaching and Research Room, and he’s a top-notch registered wizard.” He emphasized slightly, ”Do you think he would engage in guilty deeds—assuming it really is him—without any preparation?”

”Assuming?” Zheng Qing pointed at Gouzi, and Gouzi immediately straightened up even more: ”Gouzi caught him red-handed, could there be anyone else?”

”This brings us back to the previous question,” Xiao Xiao spread his hands, ”Do you have any evidence?”

Zheng Qing opened his mouth, but after a long while, he closed it in frustration.

He indeed had no way to provide evidence.

Although the talent of dream witnessing could sometimes serve as evidence in court, and he really did see a handsome wizard with two shiny mustaches in his dreams, he simply couldn’t bring himself to be at ease with someone tampering with his memories.

Especially now that he knew that there was a soul seed hidden deep within him.

It was like a child with gold passing through a bustling market, concealing it was hardly enough, how could he loudly proclaim to let others search his body?

”How about stuffing him into Dylan’s coffin first?” Xin Fat Man gave his suggestion, causing both of his roommates to look sidelong.

”And then what?” Zheng Qing retorted, ”You’ll have to let him out eventually, right? Are you planning to lock him up for four years, or even longer? Or do you plan to seal the coffin and bury it underground? ...Besides, I’m the one in the right here, why does it feel like I’m the one trying to silence someone?”

”I only suggested tossing him into the coffin to give him a little trouble—eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth— and then give him a few kgs of confusion agent afterward so that he won’t come looking for trouble once he wakes up.” Fat Man quietly defended himself.

This was a tactic occasionally used among students at the school.

Xiao Xiao did not approve:

”The disappearance of a professor is no small matter, and if he shows signs of attack or ’torture’ after disappearing, it’s even worse. Especially now that the situation outside the school is lax but tense inside, with everyone busy in Black Prison... If the school mistook it for the work of some faction, being sensitive at the moment could lead to bigger trouble.”

”If this won’t work, and that won’t work, then what do you suggest we do!” Zheng Qing waved his hands in frustration, ”How can we just keep such a big living person in our dorm... Could we possibly just make him disappear?”

”Why not?” Xiao Xiao countered.

”Huh?” Zheng Qing blinked.

”You have a dog,” Xiao Xiao reminded.

Zheng Qing shifted his gaze to Gouzi. Seeing his look, Gouzi immediately perked up his ears, wagging his tail, and began to pant happily.

”You mean...” Zheng Qing was uncertain about the doctor’s idea.

”Return him the way he came, drag him back from where Gouzi pulled him from,” Xiao Xiao paused, then added, ”After all, he hasn’t caused you any loss, and you’ve already given him a hard time. The Blackhand is vexing when it strikes unseen, but once you see where that hand is, there’s no need to be anxious.”

Zheng Qing pondered for a moment.

”Just like that!” He nodded, glanced at Gouzi, then pointed at the wizard suppressed on the floor, and commanded, ”Send him back to where you caught him from!”

Gouzi blinked, its shape suddenly blurring, and in the next moment, several figures sprang out from the void, biting and gnawing, pulling Professor Trudeau into the void.

The entire process lasted only in the blink of an eye.

After Gouzi dragged the professor away, it was only then that Xin Fat Man reacted, yelping, ”You agreed too quickly! What if Trudeau reports us to the school after he gets back? He has seen all of our faces! At the very least, we should have made him sign a Silence Contract!”

”What if you were a school professor, dragged around by a dog, or toyed with by a bunch of students; would you broadcast it far and wide, wishing everyone knew about it?” Zheng Qing retorted.

”Especially someone who is vain.” Xiao Xiao reminded.

Xin Fat Man was stunned.

”But we can’t just let him go like that.” He muttered and finally shook his head: ”Even if we can’t retaliate openly, he’s a school professor... he might trip us up in secret.”

”That’s why a Silence Contract wouldn’t restrain him as much as you’d think,” Zheng Qing stretched lazily and flopped onto his bed, ”If he wants revenge, he’ll always find a way... We can’t craft bulletproof contracts like Mephisto.”

Xin Fat Man shook his head, walked toward his own bed, and on the way, casually picked up Tuan Tuan from the desk and placed it on top of his head.

Tuan Tuan’s tail swung behind Xin Fat Man’s head, looking like a tasseled gerbil’s tail.

It wasn’t until the sprites brought Zheng Qing a towel to wipe his face that he noticed Xiao Xiao standing at the dorm door, lost in thought.

”What are you doing?”

”What?” Xiao Xiao came out of his reverie, glancing around, ”Where’s Gouzi? Has it not come back?”

”Who knows.” Zheng Qing shrugged, ”Maybe sending Professor Trudeau back isn’t easy... What do you mean, do you already see that dog as one of ours? Didn’t you remind me to stay away from it before?”

”It’s two different things.” Xiao Xiao adjusted his glasses, seeming hesitant, but finally he asked, ”What do you guys think about sending it to look for Black Mountain Goat, or that Faceless Demon?”

Zheng Qing’s face was buried in the towel, silent for a long while.

Xin Fat Man sat up excitedly from his bed, slapping it and saying, ”Great idea! Why didn’t I think of that?”

Tuan Tuan, caught off guard, tumbled down from Xin Fat Man’s belly, very annoyed, and with one swipe tore his mosquito net to shreds. Xin Fat Man soothed it by scratching behind its ears, his attention still on the chat with his companions.

”Whether it’s this dog, or that Faceless Demon, or Lin Guo’s lost Black Goat, they’re all trouble... The saying ’set a thief to catch a thief,’ ’fight poison with poison,’ that’s the idea!” Xin Fat Man was animatedly talking, looking as if he couldn’t wait to carry out this plan.

Zheng Qing couldn’t help but interject, ”That’s not how you use ’set a thief to catch a thief.’”

”Don’t sweat the small stuff,” Xin Fat Man waved his hand nonchalantly, ”Focus on the spirit... To use a thief to catch a thief, the premise is to make the thief one of our own; then when he finds it, he can call us to catch the thief.”

Xiao Xiao didn’t care about Xin Fat Man’s stretched interpretation of words but looked at Zheng Qing earnestly, asking,

”What do you think?”

Zheng Qing hesitated for a few seconds, returned the towel to the anxious sprites, and then said softly, ”Why don’t we give it a try?”
