High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1404: Chapter 151: Reply Letter

If it weren’t for Jiang Yu’s reminder, Zheng Qing almost forgot about the strange Witch who stealthily climbed the Cat Fruit Tree that night.

If he had remembered, during his visit to the School Works Committee Office in the afternoon, he should have reported the matter about the strange Witch to the school, instead of sitting on the narrow balcony of his dorm now, filled with regret.

Yes, regret.

After reading the letter from Jiang Yu, Zheng Qing felt regret.

The Witch had thought of him, conducting those dangerous investigations privately, yet he failed to share the new information with her. He vividly remembered, after the Magic Script Class in the afternoon, the Witch had been tidying up her belongings in the front row for a long time, during which she glanced at him several times—perhaps she wanted to discuss the contents of the letter with him at that time—but the young man was engrossed in a discussion about the letter from Montreya Laboratory with his peers, hence overlooking this.

This regret brought about a ’sense of disorder’ mentally that made him somewhat uneasy.

The sun outside had not fully set yet.

It was still bright.

The room was somewhat noisy.

The small patch of sunlight seemed to imprison the young man’s unease, allowing him the courage to take a few more looks at the letter. Then, by the twilight of the setting sun, the Warlock took out a light blue piece of writing paper from the Grey Cloth Bag, laid it on his knee, and quickly started writing a reply.

In his reply, he first expressed his gratitude for the Witch’s letter.

It was a matter of course, both out of courtesy and for the risks she had taken with her private investigations, he ought to express his appreciation and thanks.

In the second part of his reply, he mentioned the suggestion of the Witch, stating that he had just visited the School Works Committee in the afternoon and filled out a situation report form—of course, here, he did not mention that he went there under the persuasion of Xiao Xiao and others, perhaps in a corner of his heart known to no one, he hoped the Witch would think they had some kind of understanding—besides, Zheng Qing also briefly recapitulated the test results on Gouzi’s blood from Montreya Laboratory, and some of their speculations.

Originally fearing that the Witch would worry and also distressed about how to explain the origin of Gouzi’s blood, Zheng Qing hesitated whether to inform Jiang Yu about the matter of the Outer God and the Tingdalous Hunting Dogs. However, he was concerned about Jiang Yu conducting reckless investigations without knowing anything, leading to bigger troubles. Novels and TV shows often have such scenarios—where the outcomes aren’t really wonderful.

Thus, he ultimately decided to honestly explain everything.

In the last part of the letter, the Warlock especially emphasized, indicating that everything had been reported to the school and the school would handle it accordingly, he hoped the Witch would not take any more risks investigating the origins of Gouzi or that strange Witch.

After finishing the letter, Zheng Qing raised his head, rubbed his sore neck, and looked outside the window.

The remnant of the sun that was still lingering in the sky had completely set behind the horizon, the sky growing ever dimmer. Not far from the window stood a few tall oak trees, the balcony provided a perfect view of the treetops, and the evening breeze carried the whispering laughter of the leaves.

All of this greatly eased the young man’s heart.

After folding the letter into a Paper Crane, he attempted to stand up, only to realize that his legs were numb from sitting for too long.

As he was writing the reply on his knee, the sharp tip of the Feather Pen pierced through the thin paper several times, puncturing some conspicuous red spots on his knee. However, in order to avoid being surrounded and mocked by his roommates, the Young Wizard still insisted on completing this task on the narrow balcony.

Rubbing his knees, Zheng Qing stood up, watching the light blue Paper Crane leave the balcony, flying over the tops of the oak trees, then he quietly breathed a sigh of relief and turned back into the dormitory.

The lights were already on in the room.

Xiao Xiao was sitting at the edge of the bed, unusually not reading a book, but instead fiddling with a beautiful Divination Crystal Ball; Fat Man was reclining at the head of the bed, puffing his belly, helping Tuan Tuan groom its fur.

Fat Cat was purring, with a group of Sprites lying on its back.

At the sound of the Warlock entering, Fat Cat merely shook its ears, while the Sprites fluttered their wings and flew up, some fetching hot towels, others grabbing cups and fruits, and a few heading to Zheng Qing’s bedside to fetch his pajamas.

”Done writing the love letter?” Fat Man stroked the cat, lazily asking: ”Is it the Monitor, Jiang Da Headmaster, or Sister Korma? Hmm, surely not Elena... you’ve been dumped by her already.”

As for such complaints, Zheng Qing had learned to let them go in one ear and out the other, never arguing with Xin Fat Man.

Some things only get worse the more you describe them.

Pretending not to hear or see, and they would soon be overshadowed by other topics.

He took the tea handed to him by the sprites, had a couple of sips, then covered his face with a hot towel and collapsed onto his bed, comfortably moaning, ”I’m totally worn out today...”

No one responded to him.

Zheng Qing lay in bed, not wanting to get up to wash up at all. But not washing up before sleeping didn’t feel right either. In his hazy dilemma, he faintly heard some movement under the bed.

”Tuan Tuan, stop messing around,” he muttered drowsily.

”What did you say?” came Xin Fat Man’s voice from another corner of the dorm. Zheng Qing was silent for a few seconds, then yanked the towel off his face.

After hearing Fat Man’s voice, he immediately remembered seeing Fat Cat squatting on Fat Man’s belly as soon as he entered the dorm.

If it was on Fat Man’s belly, who was rustling under his bed?

Definitely not his sprites—they liked cleanliness too much to play under a dirty bed.

Could there be mice from the Mouse Clan sneaking into the dormitory?

Those vest-wearing guys, are they here without an invitation?

Zheng Qing leaned over the bed edge and looked under the bed.

Heh, just as expected.

It was that Gouzi again.

Even covered in dust, he recognized the grey dog pelt. Due to the dim lighting under the bed, Gouzi’s eyes gleamed, shining green like a venomous snake ready to strike.

Seeing the warlock’s head, Gouzi excitedly stuck out his tongue and wagged its tail, stirring up a cloud of dust, causing Zheng Qing to cough nonstop. Angrily, he slapped the bed frame, making a threatening noise.

Startled, Gouzi zoomed away from under the bed.

”That dog?” Xiao Xiao guessed easily why Zheng Qing was angry.

”Mm-hmm.” The warlock’s head was still hanging over the bed edge and didn’t move back onto the bed even after Gouzi had left; instead, he leaned even lower than before.

”Is it still there?”

”It’s been scared away.”

”Then why are you still hanging there?”

Zheng Qing’s head was still under the bed, silent—so silent that Xiao Xiao worried he might have died suddenly from bleeding in the brain due to his head being too low.

After a few seconds, the voice of the young cost student rose again, reassuring that Doctor was just worrying unnecessarily.

”I think I saw something under the bed...”

Zheng Qing, with his butt sticking out and his head still under the bed, spoke with some uncertainty.
