High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1403: Chapter 150 Another Paper Crane

The discussion of Tingdalous Hunting dogs continued from the end of class until everyone returned to the dormitory that evening.

Zheng Qing and his companions made various speculations.

For instance, Banna thought that the dog was a spy sent by Miskatonic to the academy, aiming to sabotage the major events of Satoguya or Nicolas. Zheng Qing reserved judgment on this speculation, as he felt that such a foolish spy like the dog would not be able to accomplish anything significant; no sane person would entrust it with important tasks.

Xiao Xiao, on the other hand, thought it was merely a coincidence, because he had never heard of Tingdalous targeting someone with the deployment of a dog with such a low concentration of bloodline and utterly ’unprofessional’ behavior.

Especially since that dog did nothing but wag its tail and stare foolishly at its target.

But whether it was a conspiracy or a coincidence, everyone unanimously agreed that this matter must be reported to the school.

”It’s one thing whether the school cares or not, but if we know that dog is related to the Outer Gods and don’t report it, we’ll be the ones in trouble,” Xiao Xiao was particularly adamant about reporting: ”Besides, concerning those beings from the Deeps of Starry Sky, it’s nothing freshmen like us can handle.”

Fat Man, for once, stood on the same side with the Doctor.

”Far too dangerous, far too dangerous,” he repeated this phrase from start to finish: ”You’ve never seen the documents preserved in the Campus Newspaper editorial room... How many brilliant Young Wizards, in pursuit of profound Magic, were seduced by those Deeps of Starry Sky beings, with the lighter consequences being minor physical injuries or mental health issues, and the severe ones having their flesh and Soul taken away, leaving behind a mere skeleton meant lucky.”

Zheng Qing thought of his own experiences in the Secret Realm small World and felt uneasy.

Not everyone has the same luck as Sister Korma.

”What does ’a bit of a mental problem’ mean?” he curiously asked.

Fat Man sneered twice: ”Sudden personality changes, emotional disarray, bizarre behavior, hypersensitivity and paranoia, memory disorders, behavioral impairments... in a nutshell, psychiatric illness, colloquially known as ’gone mad’.”

Zheng Qing chuckled dryly, glossing over the subject.

He certainly did not want to end up insane.

Thus, after leaving the classroom, two of his roommates accompanied him to the School Works Committee Office to report the incident.

This was Zheng Qing’s third visit to this office in over a month.

”The Black Mountain Goat has not been found... That pet snake, I mean, the Faceless Demon hasn’t shown up either,” said the duty Wizard upon seeing Zheng Qing, with these being his first words.

The young cost student tugged at the corner of his mouth, unsure whether to feel honored.

”I’m not here for those two things,” he replied tactfully.

”Oh...” The duty Wizard’s face visibly fell, and a thick bureaucratic atmosphere immediately filled the office: ”So you’re saying, another one of your pets went missing?”

Zheng Qing resisted the urge to pick up the ’Work Suggestions Feedback Book’ hanging behind the door.

”It’s not my pet.” His tone became somewhat brusque: ”It’s a stray dog that has been verified to have the bloodline of the Outer God Miskatonic and has been following me recently. We think it’s necessary to report it to the School Works Committee...”

”Hmm, Miskatonic you say?” The duty Wizard pondered for a few seconds with his head down: ”The guy who likes to keep dogs?”

”Tingdalous Hunting dogs are not dogs,” Xiao Xiao corrected from the side.

”No matter, no matter.” The duty Wizard patted the young Wizard on the shoulder, seeming to comfort him, and then picked up some forms from the desk and handed them to Zheng Qing:

”Here are some application materials, you need to fill them out, you know the drill... In my opinion, it’s actually not a big deal. Every year, countless Young Wizards at the school are haunted by evil spirits or cursed memes, but as long as you stay at First University, those dangers won’t really befall you...”

”So, what if we need to leave the school?” Xin Fat Man took out his notebook and feather pen, interrupting with a question: ”We are still in our freshman year.”

”Perhaps there is some misunderstanding about what I said,” the duty wizard spread his hands, showing a rare bit of patience: ”When I say ’stay at First University,’ I mean as long as you are listed as students in the university’s roster, you will be blessed and protected by the school. That is a very great magic... As for leaving school, that should mean graduating, right? Who among the registered wizards who graduate from First University is troubled by any curse or meme?”

...

Still fuming after leaving the School Works Committee office, Zheng Qing was discontented.

”Your previous complaint and suggestion letter to the school was completely ineffective.” He complained to Xiao Xiao: ”Those guys in the office are the same as ever... and they’re not even willing to make any superficial changes.”

”If complaints were useful, the world would not be sick.” Xiao Xiao shrugged his shoulders, uttering an oddly profound sigh.

As they talked, the group passed by Lin Zhong Lake.

Zheng Qing lifted his leg and kicked a small stone into the lake, which happened to hit a little frog on the head, making it roll its eyes and sink to the bottom with bubbles trailing from its mouth.

This brought a little comfort to the heart of the young public expense student.

”You don’t know, at that moment I really wanted to stuff a dead frog into his mouth.” Zheng Qing stared at the spot where the little frog sank and continued to vent.

Then, out of the corner of his eye, he suddenly caught sight of something.

When he turned his head to look, as expected, that dusty Gouzi was hiding in the bushes, peering at him. The young wizard stomped his foot and shouted loudly, which startled the Gouzi, and it whizzed away, disappearing from his sight.

”Hmm?” Xiao Xiao noticed Zheng Qing’s actions, asking with his eyes.

”Yeah.” Zheng Qing let out a deep sigh and slumped his shoulders, walking without any energy.

...

Upon returning to the dormitory, the sky had already grown dark.

Outside the balcony window, there was a pattering sound, as if raindrops were hitting the glass.

”What’s that sound?” Fat Man had sharp ears.

Zheng Qing quickened his pace and moved towards the balcony.

Outside the window, a light pink Paper Crane was fluttering its wings, forcefully pecking at the glass. That pattering sound was caused by its pecking against the glass.

”There’s a Paper Crane!” He yelled back into the room and opened the window, letting the Paper Crane come in.

The Paper Crane circled around the dormitory, hovering over the heads of the warlocks for a moment, and finally landed on Zheng Qing. The other two let out mocking sneers.

There was a faint scent on the letter.

With a guilty feeling, Zheng Qing hid on the balcony, reading by the dim daylight coming through the window.

The Paper Crane was from Jiang Yufei.

The witch stated that she went back to investigate the Cat Fruit Tree again this afternoon and did not see the strange wizard appear. Also, the cats on the Cat Fruit Tree were all behaving normally.

Although she didn’t know about the traces of the Outer God found in the dog’s blood, she proposed the same suggestion as Xiao Xiao and others, suggesting that Zheng Qing should report the matter of the Cat Fruit Tree, the dog, and the strange wizard to the school.
