High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1431: Chapter 178 Tug-of-War

The blue fish was plump, with horizontal tail fins and a pair of belly fins resembling huge paddles. Its body was covered in dreamlike blue and white runes, which flowed and emitted waves of blue light, rippling out in all directions from the fish as the center.

The Little Witch hid right at the heart of this big fish.

She was still half-wrapped in that black cloak. The cloak’s black color was especially conspicuous against the fish’s semi-transparent skin, but as the Little Witch’s breathing grew calmer, the surrounding blue became denser and more dazzling, and that patch of black soon disappeared from everyone’s sight.

All that remained in the hall was a blue fish, half floating in the void.

Four Wizards leaped onto the back of the big fish.

The demon qi filling the hall clashed with the blue waves emanating from the big fish, like hot oil meeting cold water, exploding and splashing in all directions, igniting bundles of icy flames where they fell.

Touched by those flames, one would turn to a handful of ice shards in a mere moment. Nikita personally witnessed an Old Witch Demon, due to carelessness, get its robe tainted with an ice flame. In the blink of an eye, the flame spread up its robe to its neck and then burrowed into its tightly set features.

After the Old Witch Demon let out a wail, its life was extinguished, its face gaining a layer of translucent blue, as if deep-sea mysterious ice. Some Witch Demons huddled around the hall were in an awkward scramble to avoid this unexpected disaster.

But even more Witch Demons’ eyes flickered with a vicious bloody light:

”Don’t let them escape!”

”Catch these brats!!”

”Leave me two pounds of ribs!”

”I’m going to stew Wizard—Brain—Soup!!!”

Shrill screams and anger mixed together, making the entire hall somewhat chaotic. Normally, when two Great Demons were present, other Low Tier Demons should show respect and submission, or at least not be unruly before the Great Demons. But this was the second floor of the Wizard Tower, where the Old Witch Demons who have no hope of progressing and were mentally fragile resided.

They really could go mad.

Blood-colored vines stretched out from the void in all Eight Directions, like octopus tentacles, grabbing at the blue fish; black flames fell like rain from the sky, striking the fish’s back; there were also pale bone arrows, Karma Fire Iron Chains, howling Evil Spirits, invisible curses, and so on. The Witch Demons summoned hundreds of magical attacks, assaulting the big fish in a disordered fashion.

However, the Young Wizards on the fish’s back seemed to merge with the big fish, and attempts to drag them off with iron chains and vines always grabbed at nothing; the fish’s body was too slippery to capture.

As for spells or magic, hitting the fish only caused ripples to spread or slide off its skin, leaving no visible damage.

Pure energy attacks, on the other hand, seemed to replenish the fish’s Magic Power, making it grow larger and larger at a rapid pace.

The blue fish swished its huge tail, stirring up well-defined blue waves, propelling it towards the outside of the Mage Tower, nearly making its Escape to the outside world.

Buzz!!

A faint ringing came from the Bronze Cauldron in front of the black wall, resonating with the entire Land of Desolation.

Buzz buzz!!

Invisible ripples spread in all directions as if countless intangible twisting ropes were weaving an invisible great net. And the blue fish was caught right at the center of this net.

This was the Land of Desolation’s Array.

It could conceal the location of the Witch Demons’ dwelling from outsiders and defend against powerful invaders; internally, it could also act as a Heaven Luo Ground Net, ensnaring any existence that disrupted the order.

Black tides flowed through the void, rushing and gurgling, pouring out from each hole of the net.

This was the vile water from the Abyss.

Capable of corrupting all that is good and hopeful.

The giant fish vigorously flapped its fins on both sides, swishing its tail and stirring up wave after wave of blue.

The blue waves met the black tides, quietly neutralizing them. The blue faded, the black dispersed, both turning into white foam.

The white foam cheered, sitting on the crest of the blue and black tides, pushing the giant fish to swim even faster.

Ulrich’s gaze shifted slightly, his fingers tightening around the slender staff beneath his robe, then he let out a faint sigh and took a step forward.

The Mist Captain lifted his eyes to glance at the Old Witch Demon.

Ulrich raised his left hand.

Like many old people, his left hand was withered, lacked lustre, and the back was scarred with the marks of time. But his hand was fundamentally different from those of ordinary elders.

As the Old Witch Demon lifted his left hand, a heavy shadow suddenly appeared over the Land of Desolation.

Nikita looked up and saw that the sky’s clouds, the Sun, and the starlight had all vanished, replaced by a massive palm. It was the hand of an old person, the fingers gaunt, extending only to the elbow, which then disappeared into the void.

Ulrich’s left hand twitched slightly.

The colossal hand in mid-air moved in tandem.

The Female Demon swallowed quietly, her eyes wide.

Ulrich pressed his hand downward, reaching for the giant fish. But although the blue silhouette was large, its form was extremely agile, its escape pattern like lightning in a thunderstorm, twisting and turning abruptly without any regularity, yet incredibly swift.

The great hand grabbed down, only catching the fish’s tail.

Then with a powerful flick the tail slipped right out of the grasp of the great hand. Truly slippery as a fish.

Nikita pretended to focus on the giant hand, not daring to look at Ulrich’s expression. She was certain that the instructor’s face must look a bit unpleasant now—especially with the Mist Captain’s faint chuckle nearby, which made her feel quite uneasy.

It reminded her of a scene from long ago when she followed the Captain to meet the three other Big sea monsters.

The same danger.

The same imminent threat to life.

She didn’t even dare to swallow, afraid that any slight noise might infuriate the great wizard demon and lead to her being hung on the dark wall.

Ulrich was silent for several seconds.

The giant fish had gotten a bit farther away.

Then great wizard demon transferred the staff in his right hand to his left and lifted his right hand. In mid-air, the giant hand went through a subtle change.

This time, Ulrich didn’t reach directly for the giant fish.

The great hand didn’t even change position but simply clawed at the air. Yet, with that one claw, the whole Land of Desolation moaned in agony. Within a hundred miles, the air surged, time seemed to freeze, and the space flowed like molasses through the fingers of the great hand.

The giant fish at the very center of the claw finally had its escape halted.

As if caught in a tornado wall, the powerful vortex spun, pulling it toward the palm of the great hand. The fish frantically flapped its fins and tail, only momentarily slowing the inevitable.

Nikita’s eyes held a complex expression as she let out a soft sigh.

Every Witch Demon in the great hall let out a small sigh in unison.
