High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1439: Chapter 186 Rice. Go’s Identity

The newly arrived wizard bit on his pipe, his hair shining brightly, his head shrouded in white smoke, which made his face appear somewhat blurry. But all the young wizards present were very familiar with this wizard’s identity.

”What’s happening?”

Professor Yao’s gaze swept over the young Hunters and the prison guard trying to stop the demon’s frenzy, finally settling on the assistant team deputy leader with greying hair: ”Zhang Yu?!”

There was an obvious displeasure in his voice.

The assistant’s eyes flashed with resignation as he walked over to the professor’s side and quietly explained the situation.

Professor Yao glanced at the Little Witch in Zhang Boren’s arms and then at the cell number of the Mi-go.

Mai Dong carefully shrank back, gradually leaving only half of his head visible outside the cloak. The leader of the Kunpeng Hunting Team with a simple and honest smile scratched his head and gave a silly laugh at the headmaster of Jiuyou Academy: ”Professor... this was just an accident.”

Old Yao took a deep breath.

The white smoke surrounding his head was sucked into his belly, revealing his sallow face and characteristic pitch-black eyes.

Whoosh!!

The professor forcefully exhaled the smoke, and the white smoke transformed into a roaring tiger’s head, opening its bloody mouth wide and swallowing the leader of the Kunpeng Hunting Team. The smoke rampaged, covering the figures of Zhang Boren and Mai Dong. Balin, carrying the symbol cannon, instinctively aimed at Old Yao, and the weapon made a clanging sound.

The headmaster of Jiuyou Academy lowered his eyelids and glanced at the dwarf.

Balin decisively raised his hands, his face full of a sheepish smile: ”Reflex reaction... battle-scarred, battle-scarred, hehe.”

”Cough cough... Don’t mess around! Cough.” Within the smoke, Zhang Boren coughed loudly, waving his arms vigorously, signaling his Hunters to stay calm.

The witch standing behind him rolled her eyes.

Apart from Balin whose mind was equally filled with muscle, the other Hunters would not be foolish enough to draw their Law books against a top-level Big Wizard.

Strangely enough, as the white fog obscured Zhang Boren’s figure, the raging demeanor of the Mi-go inside the cell suddenly weakened a lot.

Blue sparks flickered for a few more seconds.

Finally, the inside of the cell became completely quiet.

Old Yao made a gesture, signaling the prison guards and Zhang Yu to retreat, while also telling the young Hunters of the Kunpeng Hunting Team to follow in his footsteps and leave together.

After walking down the corridor not far and turning a corner, the white fog tiger head enveloping Zhang Boren moaned twice and dissipated.

”Just now... What happened?” He blinked and looked at Professor Yao, full of curiosity.

”You’ve stirred up a little trouble,” the professor explained vaguely: ”Next time, be aware not to linger too long in the corridors of Black Prison Castle... You don’t know what kind of people are locked up behind those doors.”

”So, who is it exactly?” Zhu Ling obviously had a better grasp of the core of the problem.

The professor remained silent, continuing to lead the young Hunters forward.

In the empty corridor, only the unequally weighted footsteps of the group could be heard.

After a long walk.

It was then that Professor Yao spoke, answering softly: ”She was a very talented researcher from the First University. She once presided over a laboratory... and then there was a leak in the lab. She got infected.”

”She had a daughter. After she was infected, the school consoled her daughter by saying her mother had gone on a long trip. The daughter, in her quest to find her, got lost in the World in the Mirror. Upon learning this, the researcher completely broke down and could no longer resist the contamination of the demon energy... But even after turning into a demon, the Little Witch remained her heart’s knot. Whenever the Little Witch appeared, it would always drive her into a frenzy.”

Old Yao was clearly not adept at storytelling.

He simply narrated everything he knew in a flat tone of voice.

Yet this was enough to bring the two witches of the Kunpeng Hunting Team to the brink of tears.

”Really,” Mai Dong somehow emerged again from Zhang Boren’s cloak, holding a handkerchief and blowing his nose vigorously, while stuttering emotionally: ”Such a sad affair.”

”The school... I mean, how could Black Prison treat her like this!” Zhu Ling, as opposed to the Little Witch, focused on more practical matters, her eyes red with anger as she exclaimed: ”Aren’t lightning strikes and electric roasts designed for the most evil demons? Why can’t they keep her in a quieter cell!”

”It’s not like this on normal days.” Old Yao hesitated slightly, but eventually he told the young witches: ”During regular periods, she would be isolated in some quiet corner... But it’s not possible now. Our Divination Group has confirmed that she has a very important impact on this war. Her current room is arranged according to the requirements of the Divination Group.”

Having said that, the Professor did not wish to discuss this matter any further.

He turned his head towards the captain of the Kunpeng Hunting Team.

”Have you been in touch with Uncle Zhi lately?” the Dean of Jiuyou Academy asked in a more amiable tone than before: ”He’s now running for the new Lei Zhe, and as his elder brother, you should give him more support...”

Zhang Boren blinked, seemingly a little flabbergasted.

”I haven’t been in much contact with him.” The stout wizard appeared somewhat timid in front of the professor: ”Isn’t Little Xin also at the Academy? The two of them are enough...”

Old Yao shook his head.

”I’ve never seen brothers like you.” His assessment carried some emotion: ”In other families, when cousins run for Augustus, they would rally all their relatives, all going into the fray with flags waving and shouting support... You guys, on the other hand, are all clueless. Kunyi and Zhongli, those two rascals, don’t even know about this election! It’s simply preposterous!”

When it came to his brothers, Zhang Boren clearly felt more confident.

”Since we were young, the elders taught us to take responsibility for our own matters and to fight for our own world,” he said, thumping his chest with pride: ”We would all be proud if Uncle Zhi became Lei Zhe on his own merit!”

Professor Yao didn’t get the chance to speak.

Because there was a scream from Zhang Boren’s chest.

Mai Dong, who had just finished crying and was about to curl up in his chest for a nap, was smacked by the team leader’s palm-like slap right onto her, almost making her vomit blood.

Angered, she raised her fist and aimed a punch, delivering it squarely on the team leader’s chin.

The punch almost caused the sturdy man to bite off the tip of his tongue.

”Murder!” Mai Dong screamed out, taking the offensive first.

Zhang Boren was stunned for a few seconds before regaining his senses, and with his head lowered he also shouted: ”It’s you who’s committing murder! I nearly died of accidental self-harm from biting my tongue!”

But because of the bitten tongue, his voice sounded somewhat muffled, inherently losing some of its force.

Old Yao smiled, his eyes crinkling as he watched the vibrant interactions among the young wizards.

The diviner of the Kunpeng Hunting Team was not inclined to let go of the topic the professor had broached earlier.

”Professor, who do you think will be the new Lei Zhe?” Zhu Ling quickly walked up, approaching Old Yao’s side with respect, and asked with great curiosity.
