Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 194: Chapter 114: If You’re Going to Slap Someone, Why Pick a Date?

Kenneth Osborne chuckled, opened his phone to order a car, and said, ”And what about Lucas Harlow? In your eyes, is his face just a blank slate too?”

”Of course not!” Lawrence Winters exclaimed again, ”The more I look at Lucas, the more intriguing he gets! The first time I saw him, I knew he would definitely become a star! — Look at him now, how famous is he?”

Lawrence Winters tugged on Kenneth Osborne’s sleeve, gesturing him to look at the giant billboard on the building across the street, excitedly saying, ”See that? A giant billboard in the CBD area of the Capital City, just the monthly rent costs a million. — Only the hottest first-tier celebrities can be here!”

”So see, he’s really made it big.”

Kenneth Osborne: ”...”

The thought of such a popular person possibly becoming a colleague at Lawrence Winters’ company made Kenneth Osborne’s headache worse.

So from the moment the car arrived until they reached the school, he didn’t say a word.

Lawrence Winters, engrossed in using the phone to chat with her uncle and mom about her first job offer, was too excited to notice the change in Kenneth Osborne’s mood.

It was only when she got out of the car that she realized Kenneth Osborne was very quiet.

Although Kenneth Osborne usually didn’t talk much, he never made her come up with topics when they were together.

This kind of situation was quite rare.

Lawrence Winters put away her phone, smiling, ”Brother Yuan, I got that offer from NewHuman Entertainment Ltd. Would you like to help me check the terms later? If there are issues, I won’t sign it.”

Kenneth Osborne was moved, planning to find several points in the offer that were harsh for newcomers and persuade her not to sign, so she wouldn’t end up as a colleague with Lucas Harlow.

This idea was solid.

Kenneth Osborne arranged everything clearly in his mind and immediately said to Lawrence Winters, ”Let’s go to my dorm first. I live alone, so it’s more convenient to talk.”

Lawrence Winters agreed and walked with him to his dorm building.

After they went upstairs, Kenneth Osborne ordered takeout before sitting down to review her offer contract.

He read it from start to finish three times, and only after the takeout arrived, he decided to give up.

It seemed The Foster Consortium was determined to have Lawrence Winters join their company to make Spencer Group lose face, so the terms offered were impeccable.

This job contract was a standout offer not just for a recent university graduate but also for a master’s graduate with ten years of work experience.

Kenneth Osborne returned the work contract to Lawrence Winters and said plainly, ”This contract is very good. I think you should sign it.”

”Really? Is it?” Lawrence Winters noticed Kenneth Osborne initially intended to nitpick the contract.

But even he gave up, indicating the contract must be really good.

She smiled and nodded, ”That’s great! I’ll have my uncle give it one last look over tomorrow, then I’ll sign it!”

Then she nervously asked Kenneth Osborne, ”Brother Yuan, what about your company? Is it still in the Capital City?”

Kenneth Osborne looked at her, calmly saying, ”Wherever you want me to be, that’s where I’ll be.”

”Really?” Lawrence Winters grinned, her smile practically reaching her ears, and she clasped her hands, bowing towards the east, muttering, ”Three Pure Ones, Heavenly Master above, please accept my bow!”

Kenneth Osborne: ”...”

”You don’t thank me, you thank your Celestial Path Heavenly Master?”

”Me staying wherever, does it have anything to do with them?”

Kenneth Osborne wasn’t in the best mood, so his words were a bit brusque.

At such moments, Lawrence Winters always appeared particularly understanding and generally wouldn’t counter him when he was upset.

So she maintained her smiling expression, good-naturedly saying, ”Thank you too, Brother Yuan, but if it weren’t for the Three Pure Ones giving me good luck, how would you listen to me?”

”Oh, so you attribute all my merits to the Three Pure Ones?” Kenneth Osborne sneered, ”If they were that capable...”

Lawrence Winters suddenly tiptoed and covered Kenneth Osborne’s mouth, somewhat nervously saying, ”Brother Yuan, you can’t just blur out anything!”

Kenneth Osborne wanted to argue back, but her palm was soft and gentle, pressing against his lips, and he couldn’t help but give it a couple of kisses, momentarily forgetting to speak.

Lawrence Winters felt like something soft brushed against her palm, the sensation was quite pleasant, warm and tingling.

She was dazed for a moment, then released her hand, seriously saying, ”Brother Yuan, there’s a discipline within the Celestial Path Sect called ’Verbal Spirit.’”

”The most peculiar aspect of Verbal Spirit is that good things often don’t manifest, but bad ones do.”

”So when we talk, we really shouldn’t speak negatively but should say positive things, words of empowerment.”

Kenneth Osborne looked down at her, saying, ”If I speak positively, words of empowerment, will my wishes surely come true?”

Lawrence Winters spread her hands, ”Well, that’s generally tough. One would have to be a master with very high Celestial Path Skills to have the power of ’Words and Law Follow.’”

”Only when one reaches the level of ’Words and Law Follow’ can they possibly say what happens, whether good or bad.”

Kenneth Osborne opened the food container, served her a small bowl of rice, and said lightly, ”Then isn’t that fine? Since it won’t happen anyway, good or bad words shouldn’t matter.”

Lawrence Winters earnestly tried to persuade him, ”That’s not how it is. Look at it this way: as long as you don’t say those discouraging words, things that disappoint you won’t occur...”

Kenneth Osborne saw her so serious, and his mood slightly improved, he smiled faintly, ”That’s reasonable too, alright, I’ll definitely remember to watch what I say next time.”

”That’s right.” Lawrence Winters picked up her chopsticks, seeing ”Grandma’s Braised Pork” from City C’s famous dishes among the takeout Kenneth Osborne ordered, hurriedly grabbed a piece and put it into her mouth, mumbling, ”It’s so delicious I could cry! It’s been so long since I had such authentic Grandma’s Braised Pork!”

...

After finishing dinner, Lawrence Winters took pictures of her offer contract, sending them to her uncle and mom for their review as well.

Sure enough, her uncle and mom were very pleased with her accepting the contract.

Lawrence Winters knew her high salary was not solely due to her abilities but because she was a pawn in the battle between Spencer Group and The Foster Consortium.

A pawn has its awareness, but a pawn also has its price.

Being a pawn means a higher price than those not qualified to be pawns.

Lawrence Winters understood this principle well and didn’t feel insulted or resentful.

For someone like her, who treasures money, as long as the price is right, anything can be negotiated.

Thus, the next day, she sent the signed work contract back via local courier.

As soon as Edward Foster received her signed work contract, he immediately announced the news on The Foster Consortium’s official blog.

@Spencer Group, thank you for your act of discarding. Today, Miss Winters has just accepted our company’s offer and will become our company’s spokesperson for the Public Relations Department.

This slap hit hard, causing another uproar on Weibo.

Summer Spencer was furious, ”Sister! That wastrel Edward Foster is up to his tricks again!”

Spring Spencer looked at it calmly, ”Don’t rush, I’ll contact the president’s office of Metropolitan North University, and you reach out to Kenneth Osborne, hit it from both sides, and we must turn the situation around.”
