Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 163: Chapter 100: Survival Comes First (Second Update)

”Pah! I just want her to be safe and sound. Who wants hardship before sweetness?” Gabrielle Winters picked up on Nick Zeller’s meaning and sneered dismissively.

Nick Zeller just laughed and didn’t argue back.

...

Lawrence Winters watched as the video call with her mom was hung up from her mom’s side, leaving her uncle to fend for himself.

She could tell that her mom was going to confront her uncle...

”Uncle, I can only help you this much.” Lawrence Winters pretended to feel guilty for a second and then burst into giggles on the table.

The dormitory door was opened at this moment, and Three Billion Sister walked in.

”Huh? What’s the occasion today? The three of us gathered here again in Room 366 on the 38th floor!” Lawrence Winters raised her arms and struck a lotus blossom pose.

Three Billion Sister glanced around, ”Madwoman Sis is back too?”

”Yeah, she’s showering.” Lawrence Winters gestured towards the bathroom and watched Three Billion Sister take a seat diagonally opposite her, then quickly asked, ”How’s your fellow villager Blake Leaf doing?”

”What else could happen? His dear sister blocked all the roads for him.” Three Billion Sister opened up a mirror to check herself, continued with some regret, ”He’s coming back tomorrow. This matter has ended here, I suppose.”

Lawrence Winters sighed, returned to her seat, and as she thought about Blake Leaf, she couldn’t help but turn back to say, ”Three Billion Sister, is he really giving up?”

”What’s the alternative? They’ve even presented adoption papers.” Three Billion Sister stared motionlessly at her reflection, still bright and beautiful, but unable to erase a hint of gloom between her brows, ”He was adopted by the Leaf Family, those disabled couples, so he’s lost the right to inherit the Sommers Family estate.”

”But those adoption papers clearly seem like they were hastily made by someone.” Lawrence Winters snorted lightly, ”I can’t believe you guys didn’t think of this.

Three Billion Sister remained quiet for a while, waiting for Madwoman Sis to come out of the bathroom before she lightly remarked, ”What difference does it make? The Sommers couple are wealthy and powerful, and dealing with a university student like Blake Leaf is easy for them.”

Lawrence Winters got it and didn’t say much more, fiddling with her little Five Emperors Coins, she smirked, ”That’s true. For now, preserving one’s life is key.”

”What are you guys talking about? Don’t scare me, Sister Lawrence, your laugh was kind of spooky just now.” Madwoman Sis made a funny face, drying her hair while sitting behind her.

”Where was I spooky?” Lawrence Winters held up a mirror to look at her face, ”I’m mature! A mature laugh! Got it?!”

”Alright, I get it, you’ve grown up!” Three Billion Sister didn’t want to talk about Blake Leaf anymore, so she changed the topic, ”Sister Lawrence, how’s your interview preparation going? Need me to help you practice?”

Madwoman Sis chimed in, ”Yeah, we can definitely help you!”

Lawrence Winters now realized that these two roommates came back to the dormitory today for the sake of her interview tomorrow.

Though they aren’t particularly close usually, she still holds a place in their hearts.

With roommates like this, what more could one ask for?

Lawrence Winters smiled sweetly, ”Thank you, I’ve prepared well. Tomorrow I’ll surely nail it!

She extended her chubby hand, making a virtual clutch gesture in the air, looking all smug.

Madwoman Sis laughed and smacked her, ”So confident, you’re amazing! Want to do a divination for yourself? See how it goes tomorrow?”

”No need, no need. It’s not a big deal, wouldn’t waste my chance for divination,” Lawrence Winters refused firmly, ”Whether it works or not, I can accept it.”

But after saying this, she immediately added, ”...It should work.”

Three Billion Sister turned expressionlessly to her desk to start organizing jars and cans.

Madwoman Sis began her facial care routine.

Satisfied with her preparation, Lawrence Winters went to the bathroom to wash up.

After washing, she was so sleepy that with a yawn, she went off to sleep.

...

The next day, Friday, she woke up early not due to her alarm, but from Kenneth Osborne’s call.

”What’s up?” Lawrence Winters sleepily glanced outside. It was still early, her interview was at ten-thirty in the morning, and it was only six now...

Kenneth Osborne’s smooth yet slightly magnetic voice came through the phone’s mic, making Lawrence’s ears itch.

She switched to the other ear to hear.

Kenneth Osborne said, ”First, go for a run, then have breakfast. After that, I’ll take you to the interview.”

”There’s no need, right?” Lawrence Winters rubbed her eyes, ”Don’t you have anything going on today? My interview is at ten-thirty.”

”Spencer Group’s office building in the Capital City is located on the southern side, over two hundred kilometers away,” Kenneth Osborne looked at the map on his phone and said.

Lawrence Winters: ”!!!”

”No way?! That far? Your company’s that far too?” Lawrence Winters hurriedly tossed off her blanket and jumped out of bed.

”My company is a newly opened subsidiary of Spencer Group, not in their office building but in a high-tech commercial center south of our school,” Kenneth Osborne checked his watch, ”When can you be ready?”

”Kenneth, can’t we skip the run today? I need to bathe first, running afterward would just make me messy again...” Lawrence Winters pleaded softly, planning that if Kenneth Osborne won’t agree, she’d resort to push harder.

However, Kenneth Osborne didn’t insist this time, just nodded, ”Alright then, can you come down to breakfast at seven? It’d be best if we leave at seven-thirty; over two hundred kilometers, at the earliest it’d take two and a half hours to drive.”

Lawrence Winters quickly said, ”I can shower in half an hour, come downstairs for breakfast at six-thirty, and we can leave by seven!”

”Okay, I’ll pick you up at six-thirty,” Kenneth Osborne said and hung up, heading to the bathroom for a shower.

After showering, he was just on time to pick up Lawrence Winters from her dorm to go have breakfast.

After breakfast, Lawrence Winters slung over her shoulder the small backpack she had prepared yesterday, with her folder and notebook computer inside, and quickly left the south gate with Kenneth Osborne.

They took the subway from there to the nearest car rental place.

Since the place was quite far, renting a car was cheaper than taking a taxi.

Lawrence Winters got into the sapphire-blue Volkswagen Lavida Kenneth Osborne had rented and gave him a thumbs up, ”Kenneth, you really are farsighted and thrifty, a man who excels in both public and domestic spheres, truly the perfect choice for traveling, grocery shopping, and interviewing!”

Kenneth Osborne glanced at her with a smile, ”... No matter how great the boyfriend, there comes a time to break up.”

”Kenneth, you truly are a genius, your ability to apply knowledge is unparalleled among us,” Lawrence Winters praised him effusively, ”That’s why I choose to be a lifelong good friend to you!”

Kenneth Osborne nodded, ”Thank you for the compliment, honored to have Little Heavenly Master think highly of me.”

He then said to her, ”There’s still two and a half hours of driving, you should try to sleep a bit.”

”How can I do that? I can’t let you drive alone! — It’s too boring! When I went out with my uncle, I kept chatting with him; otherwise, he’d fall asleep.” Lawrence Winters laughed, indicating she was a great companion for a drive.

However, not long after she said that, her eyelids began to droop, and then her head tilted, resting asleep on the comfortable leather seat.

Kenneth Osborne let out a chuckle, one hand on the steering wheel, while with the other hand he gently covered her legs with his jacket.

...

Lawrence Winters woke up and found herself already in the parking lot.

She rubbed her eyes, looking at the stationary car, and asked groggily, ”Kenneth, where are we?”

”We’re here, you have fifteen minutes before your interview.” Kenneth Osborne turned to look at her and suddenly leaned over, ”Don’t move.”

Lawrence Winters immediately froze, like a statue.

Kenneth Osborne pressed down on her hair at the front and tidied the back, finally fixing her hair that had gotten messy while she slept.

Her face showed a rosy glow under her fair skin, her eyebrows were like a painting, her lips the color of a cherry blossom, and at the verge of waking, her eyes were most mesmerizing.

Kenneth Osborne examined her closely and slowly said, ”Your eye color is deeper than most people; your mom’s irises are light brown, like glass, different from you.”

”That’s definitely my dad’s side then,” Lawrence Winters said casually as she checked her attire.

Today she was wearing a very proper light gray skirt suit, just an ordinary brand, costing less than two thousand yuan, which suited her average student identity well.

The shoes were a bit more expensive because she wasn’t accustomed to wearing high heels unless they were particularly comfortable.

Stylish yet comfortable high heels certainly wouldn’t be cheap.

She wore no jewelry except for a fine pure gold neck chain around her neck.

This necklace had no brand, was exceptionally thin, but had incredibly delicate craftsmanship; you’d need a magnifying glass to see the tiny lotus carvings forming the pure gold chain.

The workmanship alone surpassed the most expensive Van Cleef & Arpels ten-flower necklace on the market.

It’s just that few people recognized its value.

Lawrence Winters’ chain was subtly hidden under her white heavyweight silk shirt, revealing just a hint of gold, like the golden stamens among white osmanthus, understated yet elegant.

Kenneth Osborne adjusted the collar of her shirt, his fingers barely grazing her delicate collarbone.

Lawrence Winters shrank her neck, laughing, ”Don’t tickle me.”

Kenneth Osborne: ...

He casually withdrew his hand, ”Let’s go, I’ll take you up.”

”No need, I can go by myself.” Lawrence Winters firmly refused.

Who was she kidding, Kenneth was too conspicuous; she didn’t want people at the company to see their relationship.

Kenneth Osborne didn’t insist, ”Then I’ll wait for you here. You know the way, right?”

”I’m not bad with directions.” Lawrence Winters stylishly flicked her hair, ”See you later!”

Kenneth Osborne thought of something and reminded her, ”Once inside, remember to turn on the recording function on your phone and record the entire interview process. I’ll help you analyze it later.”

”Absolutely! Thanks, Kenneth!” Lawrence’s eyes lit up, ”It’s a great idea! I almost forgot!”
