Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 178: Chapter 108: An Unspoken Understanding

Summer Spencer’s hand trembled, and her phone nearly slipped to the ground.

”What did you say? Kenneth Osborne declined our offer?! Why?!”

”...He said he’s friends with Lawrence Winters...”

Summer almost cursed out loud, ”You expect me to believe such a lousy excuse?! A friend is worth giving up a million-dollar salary?! — It’s not even a girlfriend!”

”Even if it were a girlfriend, there aren’t many men willing to give up a million-dollar salary for her!”

Summer, holding on to her phone, burst out, ”Also, haven’t we already decided to hire Lawrence Winters?! Go find her, find the two of them, and tell them we’re hiring both! No matter the cost, we must bring Kenneth Osborne on board!”

Her voice was so loud that even Spring Spencer and Justus Spencer heard her.

Spring frowned and asked her, ”What happened this time?”

”What else could it be? That Lawrence Winters, really isn’t compatible with our family...” Summer glanced at Molly Zimmerman with dissatisfaction.

Molly also heard Summer’s words, and her heart felt like an overturned jar of old vinegar in a brewery, the air filled with a sour taste.

Kenneth Osborne could go to such lengths for Lawrence Winters...

Then what was the point of all those little tricks she did before?

The person didn’t even glance at her.

Molly lowered her head, silently standing behind Hazel Winchester.

Summer anxiously said to Spring and Justus, ”Our group’s newly established AI company, without Kenneth Osborne, it will be difficult to make breakthroughs in technology in the future.”

Justus was puzzled, ”Isn’t he just a master’s student? With money, how many talents can’t we recruit? — If not domestically, we can recruit internationally!”

”It’s not that simple.” Summer hung up the phone, crossed her arms, and paced back and forth anxiously in front of them, ”He has a patent, if we can sign him, he’d agree to authorize it to us...”

Justus immediately understood.

Now, the other party doesn’t even accept the offer, let alone discuss the authorization.

No wonder Kenneth Osborne, just a recent graduate, was given the title of Technical Director.

Spring pondered deeply and said, ”I was going to Capital City anyway, why don’t I go with Summer to meet these two students, apologize in person, and show our sincerity, what do you think?”

Justus nodded, ”We can try. But if he still refuses, I think we should give up. At worst, look for patent authorization abroad.”

”In terms of AI, foreign technology is indeed better.” Spring also agreed with Justus’s view, but Summer, her deepest hidden thoughts were beyond hope, looking somewhat despondent.

It seemed less like being declined by a new employee, and more like being rejected by a secret crush.

Spring smiled but didn’t expose her, saying to Justus, ”Alright, let’s do our best, if it still doesn’t work out, then that’s it.”

Seeing her siblings agree, Summer bit her lower lip, reluctantly nodding.

She turned around and said to Hazel, ”Mom, you take Molly Zimmerman back first, sister and I are heading to Capital City.”

Hazel knew it was business and didn’t complicate matters, nodding, ”Alright, you go handle your business.”

After Spring and Summer left together, Hazel glanced at Molly and suddenly said, ”I just remembered something, I need to go see Mr. Spencer. You go back with Justus first.”

She gave Molly a meaningful look and then said kindly to Justus, ”Justus, can you take Molly back with you to stay for a few days? She’s unfamiliar with the place, and as a young girl, I don’t feel comfortable with her staying in a hotel alone.”

Justus didn’t think much, smiling and nodding, ”Sure, let her stay at my place for a few days. When you return, come pick her up.”

”That would be great!” Hazel clapped her hands, smiling and raising her eyebrows at Molly, ”Molly, don’t throw tantrums in someone else’s house. Justus has been like a big brother to you since you were little, don’t give him any trouble.”

Justus, although not as stunning as Kenneth Osborne, was also handsome, in his early thirties, and with the Spencer family’s only son’s aura, he was very eye-catching.

Molly had already thrown Kenneth Osborne out of her mind by then.

No matter how good Kenneth Osborne was, he couldn’t compare to Justus.

She blushed, nodded slightly, and softly said, ”Big cousin, thank you.”

”No problem, your cousin-in-law is also at home alone, you can keep her company.” Justus said, letting Molly get into his car, and taking her back home with him.

Hazel actually just used an excuse.

Having managed to place Molly by Justus’s side, she then took a cab to the countryside to see her cousin, Cameron Spencer’s wife, Ruby Rayner.

...

In Cameron Spencer’s manor, there was now no one else but Cameron Spencer and Brooke Osborne.

He leaned against the window on the luohan bed in the living room, and said to Brooke Osborne, ”Last year you saved me, didn’t think there would be this kind of fate between us.”

Brooke smiled and said, ”I saved you, you also saved me, actually we should be square. But you gave me a home, and also this...”

She looked down, stroking the unshowing child in her belly.

Cameron smiled with great satisfaction.

He was already over sixty, and the fact that he could still get a woman pregnant was the proudest thing for an older man, more than any wealth could bring.

”That day was a coincidence, I was returning from Capital City, wanted to visit a teahouse in town, didn’t expect to see you tricked by others.”

Cameron held her hand, gently stroking it, ”...Being with me, you’ve been wronged.”

Brooke shook her head, and earnestly said, ”I’ve been through more grievances, this doesn’t count for much.”

”But...” she touched her belly, softly saying, ”I can do without your house, without any of your assets, but I want my child to be born as a legitimate child, is that okay?”

She didn’t dare to look into Cameron’s eyes.

Because she knows that for these wealthy people, marriage is actually a very serious matter.

And she, in fact, is far from meeting the conditions to marry Cameron Spencer.

But she still wants to try. She doesn’t want her child, along with Cameron’s two daughters, to be born as an illegitimate child.

Cameron Spencer looked at her with a complex expression and suddenly said, ”...Did you know that the baby in your belly is a boy?”

Brooke Osborne paused for a moment and raised her head, ”...Isn’t the hospital forbidden from revealing the baby’s gender?”

”Haha, you are truly too honest,” Cameron Spencer laughed and shook his head, ”Alright, I promise. I’ll marry you before you give birth. But...”

He looked at her with difficulty: ”After the child is born, we’ll divorce immediately. Do you agree?”

Brooke Osborne nodded repeatedly, ”I agree! I can give you a written guarantee!—I just want him to be born as a legitimate child.”

Cameron Spencer replied ”hmm”, at his level, whenever he wants to marry or divorce is just a matter of words.

He told Brooke Osborne to focus on raising the baby, and he went out to find his private lawyer to secretly handle the divorce proceedings with Ruby Rayner.

Just after marrying and divorcing Brooke Osborne, he could free himself from the marriage that had shackled him for decades.

Cameron Spencer played with two walnut-shaped artworks in his hand and inadvertently thought of another woman.

That woman was the same age as him, but she had left him many years ago.

...

At the Capital City’s Yan University, Lawrence Winters has recently been making waves at the school.

Everyone at Yan University knows the trending topic, and it is almost certain that the female student ”Nora Winters” is actually her, Lawrence Winters!

And this fame reached its peak when it was known that the academic genius Kenneth Osborne refused a million-dollar salary position from Spencer Group for her.

”What kind of mythical operation is this! I believe in love again!”

”Lawrence Winters must have saved the galaxy in a previous life! How else could someone like the academic genius Kenneth Osborne be so utterly devoted to her!”

”But this isn’t even the most scandalous thing... The most scandalous is that Lawrence Winters is apparently not even Kenneth Osborne’s girlfriend!”

”Why are you making such a fuss? There’s a kind of relationship called tacit understanding, you know?”

”Wow! Even more moving! Why can I only find boyfriends who haggle over every penny? Going out for dinner is 50-50, and when breaking up he wants me to refund all expenses incurred during the relationship?!”

”The comment above is truly heartbreaking and tear-inducing.”

”I’m regretful now—very regretful. I should have confessed earlier so I could give up sooner...”

...

A row of towering buildings emerged on the campus forum, all talking about Kenneth Osborne’s recent sensational actions.

Lawrence Winters recently hasn’t been staying on campus.

Her uncle Nick Zeller and mother Gabrielle Winters finally returned from River City to Capital City and immediately brought her to live with them.

Lawrence Winters missed them quite a bit, so after living with them for a week, she returned to school.

As she walked upstairs, she noticed more and more girls looking at her with envy.

Something happened again?

Lawrence Winters instinctively took out her phone and opened the campus network app.

The few prominently highlighted buildings on the homepage almost blinded her.

#Kenneth Osborne Angrily Resists Million Dollar Salary for His Beloved!#

Lawrence Winters: ???

Is this for real?!

That’s a million-dollar salary, isn’t it?

Even though it’s not hers, just thinking about it hurts.

Without even going back to the dorm, she immediately dashed to Kenneth Osborne’s dormitory.

Knock knock knock!

She immediately knocked on the door.

Kenneth Osborne opened the door and, seeing it was Lawrence Winters, was delighted and quickly let her in, saying, ”Joyce Shaw isn’t in the dorm, feel free to sit.”

Lawrence Winters couldn’t even sit down, angrily saying, ”Kenneth, why did you turn down Spencer Group’s million-dollar salary? Are you crazy?!”

”Do you think I’m crazy?” Kenneth Osborne smiled, ”I also think I’m quite crazy.”

”Is there any way to fix it?!” Lawrence Winters asked anxiously, ”Don’t let me affect your career plans, it’s really not worth it!”

”I think it’s worth it,” Kenneth Osborne grabbed her hand and said casually, ”I’ve been thinking for a while, and I still want to start my own business.”

”I don’t want to see you being bullied by others one day and not have the power to help you.”
