Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1850: Chapter 1851: As My Heart Desires...

The peach pit strung with a red cord was a gift from Xiao Yijing, and since she put it on, she had truly never taken it off.

With her brows lowered and her gaze fixed, Feng Feiyan focused her eyes on the peach pit. Xiao Yijing said it was a token of love.

Their love was confirmed, and she agreed to marry him, but she couldn’t be with him. Beyond the disparity in status, being part of the Royal Family was challenging; nowhere as free as by the creek or mountain. She couldn’t be so selfish as to reveal everything and bring him back to the palace with her.

To her, this ending was best for him.

”Xiao Yijing...” Feng Feiyan’s eyes slowly turned red. She truly, deeply missed him. But what could she do? She couldn’t forsake being the Emperor, yet hoped for his happiness.

If he entered the Imperial Palace, bound by various etiquette, he surely wouldn’t be happy.

Beside her, Chief Guard Shen Feifan heard Feng Feiyan softly murmuring a name repeatedly. After hesitating a moment, he respectfully asked, ”Your Majesty, who is Xiao Yijing, worth such longing from you?”

Shen Feifan was her protector and her confidant, even if he heard, he wouldn’t spread Xiao Yijing’s name. Yet, she still didn’t want to mention Xiao Yijing to anyone.

Thus, Feng Feiyan merely gave a bitter smile, but did not speak.

Shen Feifan, as a guard, saw Feng Feiyan’s reluctance and naturally wouldn’t ask further, only saying, ”Your Majesty, it’s already the hour of亥, do you plan to visit the Empress, or one of the taels?”

On the night of Feng Feiyan’s wedding, marrying three people at once, Feng Feiyan hadn’t visited any of them and instead sat alone watching the moon, utterly unreasonable.

Feng Feiyan continued to stare at the peach pit on her wrist, then asked softly, ”Guard Shen, whom should I visit tonight?”

Shen Feifan promptly replied, ”Wherever Your Majesty desires.”

”Where I desire...” Feng Feiyan’s heart was filled with bitterness. If she could follow her desires, she wouldn’t have married those three men. She didn’t want to marry anyone, she only wanted to wed Xiao Yijing.

Shen Feifan dared not speak further.

Feng Feiyan closed her eyes, then only after a while opened them again, ”The Empress, as the harem ruler, I’ll go to the Empress’s bedchamber.”

With that, she got up and headed toward the Empress’s sleeping quarters.

If she didn’t visit anyone tonight, surely tomorrow she’d be reprimanded by her father and mother. But if she visited any of the taels, it would destabilize the harem.

The Empress she married was Marquis Chidan’s son, named Zou Qian, who was talented, cultured, and polite. If he hadn’t married her and become the Empress, he would have inherited Marquis Chidan’s title as Marquis. Now, he married her, becoming the harem ruler. If tonight she went to any tael and not him, tomorrow he would certainly be the subject of gossip, making it challenging for him to manage the harem. Thus, she felt it best to visit him.

Upon learning Feng Feiyan arrived, Zou Qian hurried to greet her, ”Greetings, Your Majesty, may you live ten thousand years.”

Feng Feiyan first glanced at the graceful Zou Qian before heading towards the side hall, ”I’m tired, I’ll rest in the side hall. Empress, you should rest early as well.

The meaning was quite clear: although I’ve come to your sleeping quarters, you sleep your way, I’ll sleep mine.

Zou Qian was momentarily stunned, but quickly responded respectfully, ”Yes, Your Majesty.”

Once Feng Feiyan entered the side hall, she was attended by palace maids to sleep, but lying there, she actually found it difficult to fall asleep.
