Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1806: Chapter 1807: It’s Still Working

The door lock was already rusty, Xiao Changyi exerted great effort to open it.

As they pushed open the courtyard door, the courtyard felt empty and desolate, especially with its dilapidated appearance amplifying the desolation.

No matter how desolate it appeared, at this moment An Jing and Xiao Changyi’s hearts were warm, tender, and full.

They walked into the courtyard without going inside the house, standing right in the middle, looking at everything in the courtyard. The memories of the two living here gradually surfaced in their minds. Inevitably, they exchanged a glance, their eyes filled with deep emotion.

After looking around the courtyard again, An Jing pulled Xiao Changyi over to the water pipe. The pipe was made of bamboo; originally it was the two of them who had connected bamboo to draw the mountain stream down.

Opening the stopper on the bamboo pipe, the stream water once again flowed down through the bamboo.

”It’s still good,” An Jing said in surprise, her face full of smiles. She had thought that after so many years had passed, the bamboo pipe would have broken and might not let any water flow.

Xiao Changyi said nothing, only looked at An Jing with utmost gentleness. He had always been happy when she was happy.

An Jing placed her hand under the bamboo pipe, to catch the flowing water. This time of year, the water was quite cold, yet An Jing didn’t feel cold at all. Back then, her husband was afraid she would get cold, so he generally used this water for laundry himself. Those days were truly ordinary yet happy and nostalgic.

Seeing An Jing enjoying herself, Xiao Changyi did not stop her from playing with the water but was afraid she might catch a chill, so he didn’t let her play for long before gently pulling her hand away from the stream.

Xiao Changyi took out a cloth and dried An Jing’s wet and chilly hand. Once it was dry, he held the hand tight to warm it with his body heat.

As Xiao Changyi warmed her hand, An Jing smiled radiantly at him, feeling exceptionally happy. No one could treat her better than her husband, she always knew this fact.

Once her hand was warm, An Jing said, ”Husband, I asked Jade Jade, and Jade Jade told me. When I went missing, you sat in this courtyard for a long time, only to later eat and vomit everything.”

Xiao Changyi remained silent, only looking at her.

An Jing hugged his waist, listening to his steady heartbeat, before speaking again, almost in a mumble, ”Fortunately, you are healthy now, otherwise I’d be pained.”

Xiao Changyi hugged her back tightly, kissing the top of her head and softly said, ”As long as you’re okay.”

An Jing couldn’t help but nod, also saying, ”As long as you’re okay.”

Whether it was for him or for her, they hoped the other would be alright. Thankfully, they both were fine. Thankfully, everything was perfect.

After staying in the courtyard for a while longer, An Jing and Xiao Changyi finally walked out, with Xiao Changyi locking up the courtyard again and putting away the key.

Qin Yi and Meng Lanqing were already waiting at the courtyard gate with their horses. Once Xiao Changyi put the key away, he and An Jing each mounted their horses, An Jing on Moon Stepping, Xiao Changyi on Zhuri.

Zhuri had been with Xiao Changyi for so many years and had become old. Compared to the past when they fought battles together, Zhuri now couldn’t run as fast as before, yet remained as prideful as ever.

And Xiao Changyi had already decided that once he retired to a pastoral life, he would no longer ride Zhuri, letting Zhuri retire properly beside him.
