Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1825: Chapter 1826: I Don’t Want to Know

After a pause, An Jing asked again, ”Where would you like to go for a walk? Do you want me to accompany you?”

Qingqing glanced at Xiao Changyi before responding in a proper and mild manner, ”No need, I’ll just walk nearby.”

An Jing didn’t insist, ”Alright then, don’t go far, especially not into the mountains. It’s not safe for a young lady like you.”

Qingqing nodded obediently and started walking out of the courtyard.

Only after Qingqing disappeared at the courtyard gate did An Jing smile at Xiao Changyi and say, ”This young lady must have been well brought up. Look at her manners and behavior; not every girl from a common family can compare. I think even some daughters of princes and ministers may not outmatch her.”

Xiao Changyi said nothing.

An Jing, accustomed to Xiao Changyi’s quietness, continued on her own, ”A young girl like her appeared by the stream and was picked up by Jing’er. I don’t know if it’s good fortune or ill fate; I hope it’s good. Jing’er seems to really like her. It’s rare for Jing’er to name someone voluntarily and ask her to stay. By the way, where is Jing’er? I haven’t seen him since lunch; where did he go?”

Xiao Changyi replied, ”There’s not much firewood at home. He went to chop wood.”

An Jing understood and sighed with a smile, ”With Jing’er here, you seem less busy. By the way, the fish soup yesterday was really delicious. When Jing’er comes back, let’s see if he can go to the stream and catch a couple more fish for me to make soup.”

Xiao Changyi said, ”I’ll let Meng Zhuqing get them now.” He wanted to stay by her side, so he couldn’t go, but he could have Meng Zhuqing go.

”No, don’t.” An Jing quickly held onto Xiao Changyi. ”Jing’er isn’t busy anyway, and there’s no rush. Let Jing’er go; I’m sure he’d be happy to do it.”

Xiao Changyi nodded in agreement.

...

Su Yi Jing had finished chopping a load of firewood on the nearby mountain and had set some simple traps to see if he could catch any game before heading down the mountain with the wood.

As he passed by the stream, he saw Qingqing standing there like a fairy from another world, her slender silhouette looking lonely and desolate. He pursed his lips, put down the firewood, and walked over to Qingqing.

Without a word, he stood next to Qingqing by the stream, gazing into the unnamed distance.

With someone beside her, Qingqing, who had been absorbed in her thoughts, was slightly startled. When she realized who was standing by her, she hesitated before speaking slowly, ”Yesterday you all said you rescued me by the stream; is this the stream you’re talking about?”

Only then did Su Yi Jing turn his head to look at her, ”Yes.”

”Exactly where?”

”Over there.” Su Yi Jing pointed upstream not far away, ”You fell there, half of your body submerged in water.”

Qingqing followed the direction of Su Yi Jing’s finger, her willow-leaf eyebrows slightly furrowed, staring at that place. She frowned for a while before musing, ”It seems like there’s hardly any habitation around here. Why would I appear here alone?”

”You really want to know why you appeared here?”

”Yes.”

”I don’t want to know.”

”Huh?” Qingqing was momentarily taken aback. Even after understanding, she didn’t know what Su Yi Jing meant.

Su Yi Jing didn’t explain further but simply asked, ”Isn’t it nice here?”

Qingqing replied instinctively, ”It’s quite nice here, very quiet, and the surrounding scenery is beautiful, like an earthly paradise.”

Su Yi Jing immediately said, ”If it’s so nice here, why do you want to know why you appeared here? And why do you care about who you are? Can’t you just stay here forever?”

As he spoke those last words, he seemed somewhat emotional.
