Surviving The Fourth Calamity

”Actually, the Tower of Dark Enigma is the unluckiest...” Cayo’s words were abruptly cut off by two teammates.

Jerry was almost flustered: ”Do you think this place is safe just because it’s inside the teacher’s Isolation Array?

The Defense Tower did its own thing with its Magic Tower back then!

Don’t think that just because you’re a little ant, you won’t catch the attention of the storm clouds!”

’Slap!’ Cayo first gave himself a slap and then immediately apologized, ”I got carried away today, it won’t happen again.”

”It’s about time, let’s head out!” Jerry didn’t continue discussing the topic, but he comforted his captain a bit: ”Just be careful next time, since we don’t have the ability!”

Hill smiled, this Jerry clearly belongs to the type who knows a lot but keeps it all to himself... The hidden meaning in his words was that even someone as dull to external information as Cayo could understand why the Tower of Dark Enigma is unlucky, isn’t it because his family openly discussed it!

Since Archmages can talk about it, it certainly isn’t any big deal.

But this topic isn’t suitable for their kind to discuss... Even if they didn’t hear it from the people at the Sia Tower they fear, their own Tower of Despair has enough people to kill them over those words.

Cayo must have understood this, so he said another low apology.

Because he won’t get into big trouble because of this nonsense, but his two teammates without any backing will.

The three fairly active Junior Mages eventually left together slowly.

Hill didn’t move.

Even though he already felt the Isolation Array being dismantled, he remained still.

Sure enough, three hours later, two people appeared silently on the ground.

”No fluctuations at all, seems like I was just lucky this time.” An older voice slowly reached Hill’s ears.

”Actually, this is better, right? Teacher.” A middle-aged man’s voice followed, ”Really owning centuries of resources... The tower...”

Hill instantly understood what he wanted to say.

With their faction able to hold such a high position, even meteorites only require sending three Junior Mages out to collect, there’s no worry about anyone attacking... Even if the Ninth Ring Mage is always watching here, absence means absence.

There’s always someone who has a way to steal, this is a world occupied by evil.

It’s precisely because he possesses the strongest ability and luck for Summon Meteor.

Even if the Tower of Despair faces a big crisis someday, the opposition would relent on this capable Archmage.

As long as he submits, it’s fine.

But for those in the Doomsday world, even strong ones must adapt spontaneously... Pride is irrelevant.

So although the Old Mage didn’t answer his words, he didn’t stop his stammers either.

”But what needs to be checked must still be checked.” He continued speaking slowly but firmly, ”At least, nothing should slip away from us.

Ha~

At that time, no power is of use, understand?”

”Yes! Teacher.” The middle-aged Mage immediately responded, ”I’m just hopeful, doesn’t mean I’ll let it pass, I’ll be very careful.”

”Mm.” The Old Mage sighed, ”I don’t know what curse has befallen our world... Alas!

Where did the black mist outside come from?

Goddess Bisozeya faced such great harm for our world... Although I also wish to keep my position, if capturing a Stellar Realm visitor as sacrifice to help the Goddess regain even a bit of strength, then I won’t have to consider those.”

”Luckily we don’t have to consider this problem today.” Though the middle-aged Mage understood his teacher’s words, he was still happier about not facing such trouble.

The two of them muttered and circled above Hill for an hour, before leaving the place.

After they left, Hill slowly counted the visitors coming intermittently afterward... At first, they were probably dispatched by other Archmages from the Tower of Despair, although numerous, their Levels were only around Level 10.

But Hill could feel that these mages carried the monitoring eyes of higher-level mages.

Just as the Old Mage’s student said before, his status is indeed very high, hence no one wanted to offend him directly.

But neither could they let any chance slip, thus using relatively tactful means.

After they finished their round... the blatant hierarchy made Hill can’t help but purse his lips slightly.

Mages indeed respect stronger beings, but definitely don’t abide by rank rules so strictly.

After all, no one knows who will stand higher tomorrow.

And with a mage’s superb memory and a tendency to hold grudges, rules like Devils will only turn into a terrifying cycle of revenge.

In the past, Teraxil had quite a few rules, but communication among mages was mostly based on shared interests rather than matching levels.

Respect for strength didn’t mean excessive fear.

Yet here it’s completely different.

Level 10 and Level 12 mages are entirely parallel lines.

Previously, Hill also heard the conversation of those three Junior Mages, they acknowledged that some talented mages could exceed their peers, and it wasn’t uncommon.

But such reactions from those above indicated they naturally accepted that a change in Level meant a change in attitude.

Hierarchy attributes seem ingrained in their souls.

Hill found it genuinely interesting now.

You see... These mages behaved bizarrely.

They did appear somewhat selfish but not to the level of the Devils.

Like those three Junior Mages, they behaved just like... regular humans.

Protecting their interests, yet still showing some sympathy and curiosity.

And as for the Old Mage, despite being already at Ninth Ring, there’s no need to use pretense with his closest student, so even if it seemed insincere, there was some genuine feeling inside.

This neither fits the style of Hell nor the state of Doomsday people.

Well, not quite typical of the Doomsday... but rather those not entirely helpless, still believing they can find hope someday.

They are indeed struggling, but with dreams in their hearts.

Those who haven’t reached a dead end will consider the future.

Hill felt his chance through this unusual behavior.

And where the opportunity lies should be the Tower of Sia.

Sia, Sia, Hill’s first thought naturally was the daughter of Asmodeus and Goddess Bisozeya: Princess of Hell, Succubus Queen Glaysia.

Married to a husband that Hill found somewhat baffling, Grand Duke Maman of the Third Layer of Hell, and because Maman got involved in her mother’s murder incident, she was separated by her angry father.

Hill always felt the current peculiar situation of this world is inseparable from Glaysia.

However, it’s only suspicion, he couldn’t make any judgments yet.

Hill needed to get closer to explore.

He naturally thought of the name he heard earlier... the unlucky noble Junior Mage Gilbert Chatel Haisenal.

Also, he could sense a hint from Cayo’s words... Why was the Tower of Dark Enigma so unfortunate?

It’s because they were too close to Sia Tower, unable to even grow Black Taro.

No matter what Sia Tower claimed, even if they packaged themselves as watchful guardians at the disaster site for the Goddess, reality proved everything.

They did not protect the world as they claimed, but instead, dragged down not-so-close neighbors.

The Tower of Dark Enigma originally had so much time and chance, yet failed due to an unlucky neighbor.

A real unlucky bunch... Wonder who first chose the Magic Tower’s location there.

Indeed, the downfall was decided from the start.

Hill didn’t need to inquire about the location of the Tower of Dark Enigma.

Just head towards the most barren land.

However, he had to wait a bit... It seems this world truly doesn’t hold any secrets, endless visitors come without pause.

Moreover, quite tacitly, cleaning the place by order of kinship and even enemy ranking.

Luckily those three Junior Mages, despite chatting excessively, took everything needed.

With no new findings, although everyone walked the place unwillingly, they didn’t keep digging endlessly.

Even so, Hill squatted underground for a whole month before lazily picking a direction to move.

After all, this was the Meteor Summoning site, not easy to discern.

Thus, he planned to first observe a nearby Mage Town.

The aura there is quite complex, even moving slightly upwards wouldn’t cause issues.

Hill needed to get acquainted with the locals’ aura, to blend it with his own.

Otherwise, sneaking into the Tower of Dark Enigma wouldn’t be so easy.

He then witnessed a scene utterly unpleasant to him.

Ordinary people’s numb faces, that skeletal thinness, draped in something resembling a burlap sack, all made Hill uncomfortable.

These were regarded by those Junior Mages as those living well.

What would the condition of the less fortunate be like?
