Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Hill was a bit confused. He really didn’t know which Abyssal Lord would be crazy enough to directly confront the Lord of Hell.

Don’t be fooled by these Great Demons who exert all their efforts to win the favor of the Abyssal Will. They are selective about their opponents.

When faced with troublesome enemies, getting their fellow adversaries to engage is their preferred choice.

Unless someone has made a mistake and fallen out of favor with the Abyssal Will, forcing them to risk everything for survival.

But recently, the incidents on Toril, led mainly by the Demon Prince Dimogogan, were not surprising given the usual failures there.

As for what other Evil Gods did, as long as rent payments were timely and consistent, the Abyssal Will cared little about these guests using its territory.

It focused solely on issues concerning demons, including those transformed by the Abyss that very day.

Rose, being a Tanalith Demon converted by Coron, had formidable strength but found it hard to establish authority within the Abyss... self-preservation was manageable, but becoming a lord was difficult.

That’s why she chose to climb upwards relying on instinct and sacrificed many partners to gain the favor of the Abyssal Will, earning herself an Abyssal Plane.

Other Abyssal Evil Gods lived on unmanaged planes but weren’t true lords.

After all, the Abyssal Will could evict guests anytime it wanted, without refunding rent.

”In that Path of Destiny on Toril, the Lord of Hell gained considerable benefits... because Edna was so secretive, even their world’s deities couldn’t intervene much.

Wasn’t it just those few on Snowfall Island?

The strength of the enemy equates to our defeat. Is the Demon Lord responsible for monitoring the Lord of Hell being punished and needing to regain some tolerance from the Abyssal Will?”

The Abyss never loves its subjects; it merely tolerates their existence.

Once patience is lost, it spells doom for the other party.

But, in some respects, it’s fair; by sacrificing powerful creatures to please it, one receives rewards... usually strength equal to one-tenth the offering’s value.

Do not see an issue with this, for in the Bottomless Abyss, receiving even one-tenth is a blessing.

Entities that can’t affect it don’t even get this chance.

You must first pay enough for the ancient one to take notice of you, remembering your essence, before there can be a future outcome.

Unless you can sacrifice an entire Deity to it at once.

Even then, you only receive a tenth of the power.

But if you’re lucky enough to encounter remains of a Deity without being destroyed, living nearby for a year might yield similar power... without turning into a demon body.

”They always emerge.” Hill pondered for a moment, ”That Cronos has grown into a youth and is soon to mature.

Now, everyone is waiting for him to open his eyes!

Let’s see who seizes the first strike.”

Cronos, although steadily growing, was clearly just a shell; the controlling will was not yet present.

Gaia likely realized why today’s ordeal transpired and arranged the battlefield before Cronos.

Typhon fought ferociously, but he must have promised Asmodeus not to harm that body, making him more cautious.

Yet he occasionally couldn’t help himself... Gaia was genuinely fighting with all she had.

While using Cronos as a shield, it was also to give the child a chance of survival.

After all, what was present wasn’t Gaia’s true body.

Even if she failed, she would just start over in a different world.

Having pledged allegiance to the Lord of Hell... otherwise, he couldn’t have resurrected directly... Typhon now possessed more Intelligence than his previous self.

But this wasn’t necessarily favorable now.

Because now he could understand things more clearly.

Hill could also comprehend Asmodeus’s choice... the Lord of Hell detested fools even more.

”Sir seems quite interested in this, but it shouldn’t have much relation to us in Teraxil?

It hardly affects Aesces, either.

They’ll likely withdraw soon after the battle.”

List stood beside Hill, somewhat curious and asking, ”No matter how Hell and demons fight, it doesn’t concern us, right?

That’s for the Lords of Order to deal with.”

Hill glanced up at Tower Spirit, understanding his point... even if both sides collaborated, the Heavenly Mountain won’t explode, amounting to no more than a few Greek Gods or Lords of Order perishing, affecting even less in Toril, not to mention Teraxil.

Hill sighed quietly: ”But I always feel...”

”That’s enough, sir!” Purwell rushed forward, ”This sounds too alarming!

List! List!

There’s a body of mine in the Half-plane, right?

Let’s go select the sturdiest one!

Oh, and which has the most protective arrays?”

List glanced at Hill before resolutely turning to follow Purwell into the Magic Tower.

Hill weakly extended his arm, his tone somewhat vacuous: ”Ah... don’t be like this.

I’m just extremely inspired!

I’m not a jinx!”

He pursed his lips dissatisfied: ”I just feel some things that always caught my attention haven’t revealed their causes and effects yet, feeling slightly off.

There’s a strong sense that something is about to happen... ah!”

Hill looked sorrowfully at the Lily of the Valley swatting at him from his hair ends, even nearly slapping him to shut him up: ”How could you too, do this?”

’Clang clang!’

A somewhat disordered sound came from below, Hill leaned over to see the Murderous Vine attempting to erect a giant screen with its thick body.

”What are you doing?” Hill pointed at it.

The Murderous Vine tapped the giant screen with its tail, sending an inherently writhing message that made Hill’s mouth twitch: Just watching this thing will make you shut up.

Of course, Hill didn’t want to look, so he voluntarily kept his mouth shut.

But the plants and his two attendants seemingly felt a bit anxious, began hastily organizing their belongings, and Purwell decisively absorbed the Magic Tower to see which could balance better while selecting a body.

The tower was originally built within, having a connection with his soul, requiring no control from Hill.

Watching them preparing for travel, Hill scratched his head, wanting to speak but hesitated, deciding instead to listen to the story over there!

As long as... well, no, it should be said, it’s still early!

Luckily, Typhon’s roar from the giant screen distinctly made its presence felt, suppressing Hill’s slight unease.

”Is that Rose?”

Simultaneously, the ’Perfect Baldy,’ noticing a subtle shadow writhing in the giant screen, pointed and asked ’Snow Cloud Peak.’

”Let me see...” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ furrowed brows as he watched a while, ”No, if it were Rose, it wouldn’t be this noisy.

Has that woman found another temporary ally?

No Evil God would be stupid enough to meddle in the Lord of Hell’s matters.

I’ll send someone to ask Nasir which Demon Lord was recently punished; this shouldn’t be a secret.”

He patted ’Perfect Baldy’ on the shoulder, ”Why dazing there?

If Edna isn’t in the library now, get Elder to ask for help!

Aesces can chat with me directly on the slate; no way Edna couldn’t do it.

That girl must’ve watched plenty of plays recently?”

”Like this one?” ’Perfect Baldy’ pointed at the giant screen.

”Ah...” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ quickly changed the topic, ”By the way, would Hill’s path become challenging hereafter?”

”Huh?” ’Perfect Baldy,’ who was typing, lagged for several seconds before asking, ”Hasn’t he always walked rather steadily?”

”I meant his journeying path!” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ couldn’t help rolling eyes, ”You’re talking with the Goddess of Magic, hence thinking only of the Mage’s path?”

”What’s so challenging? Hill’s character and strength are impeccable, archetypal of a defensive counterattack type, no place could... huh?

Wait, are you referring to us?”

”You go first; we follow, like premature singing.” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ mumbled, ”See those swarming flies and moths!

The only places likely welcoming us would be Toril and the Bottomless Abyss?”

”It’s the Multiverse! Places like Toril with wicked traits exist elsewhere.” ’Perfect Baldy’ put down the slate and glanced at the screen, ”See, the Lord of Hell is already adapting; Devil-controlled worlds shouldn’t mind these things either.”

”Is he not caring?” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ couldn’t help but chuckle, ”The myriad moths evidence his effort.”
