Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1125: Chapter 917: The Hoarding Haber Family

The Haber family was still trying to cover for themselves... Although their robes were of various colors, they all shaved their heads bald.

However, Mage Sel who struggled out from every moment of death was not as weak as they seemed.

When he made a move, it was a deadly strike, without wasting any words.

Unlike these disguised Baldy Mages, who were still trying to rescue those bone dragons that were already beyond saving... Clearly, someone couldn’t let go.

But the White Dragon was already on the verge of madness because its graveyard had been dug up... Clusters of icy mist immediately rushed toward these mages attempting to augment the bone dragons with necromantic power.

The Haber family hadn’t even started the battle, and they already had to solve the problem of standing their ground.

There were several shouts from behind them, and then these guys finally gave up on the last two bone dragons in the air.

Meanwhile, under the command from ’Snow Cloud Peak,’ the Undead Tribe had already adjusted their attack range, immediately launching mid to long-range spells, not giving them a chance to form up.

”The Haber family only plans to take the elites and run!” Celene said slowly, ”They’re really ruthless, even sending out some over Level 20 Transcendent mages!”

”Relying on part-time efforts to just barely succeed in Transcendence, they entered Mark City, and even in death, they wouldn’t know who killed them,” Shaer said disdainfully.

”Having abandoned the family principles they’ve adhered to for over ten thousand years, what’s left of the Haber family?” Celene asked pointedly, ”They don’t even have Kelben’s ability.

Leaving Toril, losing their only value, how long will that Lady of Pain continue to protect them? Maybe she won’t bother with them after giving them a place to live, right?

Do they really think a Demon Lord can control everything forever?

Have they forgotten how powerful the Witch Queen is? If even she couldn’t do it, can the useless Haber family achieve it?”

Hill couldn’t help but glance at the silver-blue moonlight... These words seemed not to have come from the same Celene who was just stirring up trouble a moment ago.

”A greedy heart is the best weapon,” Shaer said coldly.

Her words implied something that Hill and Celene both understood... The Tablets of Fate only had to ignite the flame of desire among the power holders of the Haber family.

Hill casually glanced at the battle on the giant screen.

The swordsman and defensive mage were slowly moving around Edna, who was without protection.

Leonard and Josanie were still fighting the Dark Unicorn... As those mages appeared, more Unicorns joined, and some people from the Magic Cult sent over Healing Knights wielding hammers and in armor to assist them.

There was no choice, the Fairy Dragon was too fast, and Leonard was scattering seeds everywhere, causing plant life to spring up wildly.

Other battle professionals dared not intervene, but those Healing Knights with high defensive power, not fearing the relentless piercing of silvery horns, could stand in the middle of the battlefield and toss a few heals and buffs to the two who had lost their rationality.

Devis and Luca originally stood a bit forward, observing the fighting style of those Haber family mages... The mages’ combat style generally had a mature pattern; Magic Towers differed, naturally excelling in different spells, so the patterns varied greatly.

Although the Haber family disguised themselves as Red Robe Mages, their main magic actually focused on the Transmutation School, but as Alchemists, their spell style clearly leaned more towards evil and used necromancy as an auxiliary.

Necromancy isn’t just about summoning skeletons... The leading mage was clearly casting a Mark of Agony: a spell that lowers all attributes of surrounding enemies, with magic defense even getting reduced a bit more.

Around most mages, some weapons were flying... The research direction of the Haber family in the Transmutation School should, besides altering biological attributes, also include this spell of commanding multiple weapons for automatic attack.

For Luca, who also belonged to the Transmutation School but preferred using spell matrices, the Haber family’s style was still worth observing... As for those clearly evil methods, how many mages would actually care?

Mages who can ensure they don’t use such methods can be considered good, but they won’t mind what others do.

Devis naturally followed along to observe.

They rarely encountered such group battles among mages.

The only pity was that they couldn’t learn the resistance methods of the Undead Tribe.

The Undead truly weren’t afraid of dying, nor did they care whether their spells would also take down their own people charging ahead... The Haber family people indeed wouldn’t hit their own, but when facing those crazed waves of the Undead charging into the crowd, they also didn’t know how to handle it, killing only the enemies without harming their own people.

But if the Habers hesitated even for a few seconds, those undead would be able to cut down people beside them with their swords and axes... Even if they could eventually bring down that warrior, that warrior would still be content, carrying one or even a few lives with a smile to the grave.

Devis baring his teeth, watching the battle in front of him, although he knew the Teraxil Elves were on their side, he couldn’t help but empathize with the Haber family mages.

Though it was somewhat abnormal, Devis simply couldn’t control that feeling of sharing the same fate... If his teacher came, even leaving with a full body seemed dangerous to Devis.

Even when he heard in Quel Senta that these Teraxil Elves had driven away liches over Level 30, Devis used to think it was just elf bragging... A lich over Level 30 was really scarier than an Archmage because their mana bar was longer.

Without even a transcendent among the elves, no matter how numerous they were, truthfully, out of millions of people, how many could actually land an attack on that lich?

Using a human wave tactic is indeed effective, but that depends on them ensuring their opponents can’t move! Without high enough levels, it’s impossible to seal the opponent’s magic... how many people can kill if they use more Advanced Blink spells?

But now, Devis feels this is no longer a joke... having no fear of death is truly a super troublesome trait.

Of course, a Lich cannot be killed, but it’s also unable to break through these Elves’ defensive circle.

Devis suddenly grinned... that Level-twenty-something Necromancer was playing corpse explosion with the bodies of his own people, resulting in being completely hugged by several Undead Knights... and then those Knights actually self-destructed.

Transcendent Mages! Necromancers are known for their tough life force, but they turned to dust amidst this spirit of mutual destruction.

Even though this explosion not only wiped out this Mage and several unlucky souls but also took away hundreds of lives from the Undead Tribe, the Undead seemed rather pleased.

Devis grabbed Luca’s arm, saying nervously, ”The bombs they’re carrying seem stronger than what your tower can make!”

”What are you afraid of~ they’re not exploding us anyway.” Luca was completely unconcerned, still vigorously writing observation notes about those bombs.

”Can you make them?” Devis continued to question.

”Of course, we can make bombs of this level.” Luca looked puzzled at Devis, ”But the material cost is quite expensive, we wouldn’t be willing to use it this way.

Moreover, haven’t you noticed? The explosives they use can’t be thrown away; the fuse is triggered upon touch, only usable in mutual destruction.

This thing—who would use it if they wanted to live?”

Devis let out a long sigh... he decided to go back and discuss with his teacher properly: since the Azuth Church, due to Edna, has already established a good relationship with the Teraxil Elves, they must never destroy this friendship over some pointless conflicts in the future.

Living in the world, one must be aware of the times to live well.

They are certainly not afraid of these Elves; no matter what, they still have Azuth as their backing.

But if they were to provoke the other party, Azuth probably wouldn’t be able to help... the Elves have Coron backing them up!

”Devis.” Soma, who had been silently standing behind them, suddenly said, ”Look at Edna.”

Turning back, Devis saw the Defensive Mage standing beside Edna, communicating feelings with her.

Though uncertain of the other’s intentions, Devis, who had already elevated Edna’s importance, grabbed Luca and walked over, brimming with hostility.

He would never allow those with ulterior motives to occupy their place!

Devis and Luca’s followers at this moment dared not leave the two of them... even those not so loyal knew that the two Mages were the prerequisite for the Teraxil Elves to conveniently protect them.

If these two Mages were gone, those whose names were not written in Edna’s handbook would surely be abandoned.

After all, even though the number of Undead Tribe members is large, the other side is clearly still reinforcing.

And with a Necromancer!

This is, after all, their territory; what if an Undead Scourge occurs?

Their concerns weren’t unfounded.

The trash-laden ground started shaking and rolling, even cracking... skeleton claws suddenly reached out.

”The Haber Family... quite capable of hoarding, huh~” Luca blankly observed the diverse zombies and skeletons emerging from the ground and mumbled.

Edna was amused by his honesty.

Among those corpses were not only Elves and Dwarves and Beastmen but also some tall and fierce-looking Humans... those were the Children of Bhaal.

Thousands of children with the Blood of Bhaal were basically slaughtered by those Baldur’s Gate guys.

But obviously, some people, after extracting the Blood of Bhaal, still sold the bodies as waste to the Necromancers.

And the Haber Family indeed dared to buy them... if they weren’t buried in the landfill, maybe Bhaal might have joined the fun.

Honestly, among the Three Gods of Death, Milko is the only one without any hope of resurrection, Bhaal still has a faint chance... just depends if the Tablets of Fate treat Bhaal as the final boss during a crisis.

Bane was a good example! Bhaal was always just a bit unlucky.

But it’s not surprising, given the previous batch of Sons of Destiny might be cursing him daily.
