Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1113: Chapter 906: My Family Can’t Be That Stupid

If at first Hill didn’t realize what they were up to, but when these two families started sprinting toward Neverwinter Forest, he figured it out.

Although it was somewhat surprising, it wasn’t unexpected... For the Undead Tribe, taking a day’s detour in the Underworld is certainly less worthwhile than jumping straight down from the cave’s top.

Though surely some people would die from the fall... But back then they would jump even in a certain death situation! No need to mention the better survival chances now.

What’s more important is that nobody would believe they’d surely fail before hitting the ground... Even those with notoriously bad hand-eye coordination would somehow have an inexplicable confidence during this craze of jumping.

But Hill hoped that this time, at least not many mages would directly fall to their deaths, right?

Hmm... Hopefully?

Even if the chaotic elements in that zone prevent flying, at the very least casting a Feather Fall Technique shouldn’t be a problem, right?

Flight Art definitely can’t be used... Even though ’Snow Cloud Peak’ can’t keep up with his head, if flying were possible, he wouldn’t stay silent.

Given the current level of the Undead Tribe, a two-hour Feather Fall Technique should be a breeze, and they could use it on others... As long as they remember.

However, Hill soon discovered he had greatly underestimated these Undead Tribe members.

The first batch of Undead who reached Neverwinter Forest, after frantically skirting around the cracked ground fissures and pools of magma, finally arrived near the blazing volcano and almost without a pause, leapt straight down.

On another giant screen, the furious roar from ’Snow Cloud Peak’ had already begun: ”Damn it! Even I know to use Feather Fall Technique before jumping down! Is there really any mage who can’t do that? Did William give you these trashy half-baked stats on purpose?”

’Old Age Striking King’s leisurely voice followed: ”The cave is very large, and we’re staying dead center. Even if tens of thousands of you jump together, there’s no way you’ll land on our heads. Stop wasting resurrection chances and don’t assume losing experience doesn’t matter because a quest started.”

The furious ’Snow Cloud Peak’ suddenly paused, turned to look at the calm Little Loli: ”What were you just saying? They want...”

”They want to replicate the sky full of flying corpses like in the Black and White Path camp back then. Back then, it was people crashing down, and now they just want to crash into people.” Sanda King bluntly shattered his attempt to console himself... Old Dog’s notion of ’my family members can’t be that stupid’ was too obvious.

”Why would they think that the flying corpses generated in a few hundred square feet of the cavern could be replicated in a nearly ten thousand square foot cave?”

”Ask me? Are you serious?” ’Old Age Striking King’ raised his eyebrows in surprise and looked at him, ”You should be asking that bunch of fools how they came up with such stupid thoughts. Why do you think I could understand that foolish mentality?”

”Don’t worry, the first ones to jump down are all from your Magic Cult, so you can go back slowly and inquire about their thought process.”

’Snow Cloud Peak’ smacked his face with frustration: ”Ah! Am I dreaming? Their first reaction was to smash their own Clan Leader to death?”

What kind of sin did I commit to have such amazing family members?”

”Old Dog.” a Female Priest from the Magic Cult walked over, ”They’ve all filled the ground, should we send a few priests out to rescue them?”

”What are you thinking? Going out to die?” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ made a strange face at her before suddenly realizing, ”Did yours jump down? If you’re willing to get smashed while trying to save him then by all means go ahead, but leave others out of it.

This kind of death is just too stupid, don’t drag others into it!”

The corner of the Female Priest’s mouth twitched: ”I’m not that shameless. From one glance, you can tell, they all died hugging the walls, nobody’s even ten meters away from it, let alone the center.”

’Snow Cloud Peak’ stood up in surprise and followed the priest to the fence made of tree branches... and sure enough, all the bodies were piled up by the walls.

He shook his head in disbelief, straining to look up a couple of times... Perhaps because there were many fissures around the cave, the area below was serene while above ten meters or so, numerous air currents were swirling madly.

Even those who tried using the Feather Fall Technique couldn’t help sliding slowly along the wall, or risk being grabbed and slammed into the opposite wall by a rushing wind.

In fact, those who slid down the stone wall slowly were quite safe, after all, there were some bodies below to cushion their fall.

Of course, there were still some people, those possibly newly upgraded or who had long lost all their experience... Since the Undead Tribe’s levels are locked, losing experience doesn’t decrease levels... simply chose to shut their eyes and jump straight down.

But those who jumped down mostly ended up falling midway, eventually lumped together in the corner with others.

The cave was too deep and unlike Teraxil from back then, it’s hard for winds to rise... the top was almost a wind tunnel, sliding down the sides gently was the only method for descending.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ put his hands on his hips and laughed to the sky for a while: ”Ha ha ha ha~ Tsk tsk! All turned dumb~

Alright, you guys go rescue people! Pull them up so I can see who came down first; being this foolish, they’ve got to show their faces!”

The ’Old Age Striking King’ walked over to Edna, who was staring at ’Snow Cloud Peak’ in disbelief, and said expressionlessly: ”What’s there to be surprised about? How many reliable members of the Undead Tribe have you seen all this time?

The more people, the more fools, you don’t need to bother.

This rescue mission has leveled up; you only need to consider where to go, we’ve got the rest sorted.”

Edna blinked and nodded with a smile: ”Got it, Sanda King Sister~ I was thinking of checking out Long Saddle Town, but since two mages and their followers disappeared... ah, I mean, not died... I ought to send a message to Quel Senta.

After all, they came to the Northern Continent because of my father’s words. Luckily, the Undead Tribe has a full record, otherwise, I wouldn’t know how to explain why mages and their followers from another city were utterly decimated!

Better head south, let’s go to Agleya first!

I want to ask Lord Hill what the heck is going on... If this Ice Mountain was originally a volcano, he, being a Nature Mage, couldn’t possibly be unaware, right?”

The ’Old Age Striking King’ shrugged, then suddenly smirked: ”I can’t give you any advice. Nodding or shaking my head would get a warning, just figure it out and let us know.”

Edna couldn’t help but laugh: ”Alright~ no worries about me, I’ve still got Elvia!”

Lying under the robust trunk at the center of this large cage, the White Dragon Queen joyously flapped her wings: ”Yeah~ me too~”

The three ladies exchanged knowing smiles, the atmosphere was very warm.

But suddenly, a sharp voice rang out: ”What game are those strange elves playing~ Why are they stacking in the corner? Can Josanie join in?”

Edna looked at the Fairy Dragon in Leonard’s arms with a peculiar expression... This little dragon had fallen with a cry of joy earlier, seemingly treating the sudden fall from the volcanic eruption as a cliff-jumping game.

Yet just settled in, she dashed into Leonard’s arms, muttering and sobbing, forcing the Half-Elf to clumsily hold and comfort her fake panic, leaving no energy to discuss with Edna what to do next.

Luckily, Edna didn’t expect any great advice from Leonard. This Nature Mage had already demonstrated his abilities, and every mission was completed very well. Edna didn’t have any additional demands on him.

If she wants someone capable, obedient, she shouldn’t expect them to also strategize for her... Anyone who thinks they’re truly smart wouldn’t easily follow orders without consideration.

As for Devis and Luca, their knowledge of the North was shallow, facing such sudden incidents, they could only yield to Edna’s direction.

The young lady lightly combed her hair with her fingers, she had already made her decision, but whenever the Sanda King Sister was around, Edna always tried to rely a bit.

Unfortunately, the Sanda King Sister was not a Toril person, nor did the Main God of the Undead Tribe wish to get involved in Toril’s internal disputes.

Edna smiled helplessly.

She certainly understood, who on idle wants to be tricked by that cursed stone tablet!

Even Toril people encountering such obviously abnormal events today, certainly curse that damned fate in their hearts.

Though always very aware she’d face a magnificent future, really encountering it made her a bit dejected.

Even for ambitious Edna, she never imagined herself ascending to godhood or ruling the world with unrealistic goals... Pulling Kelben from the divine pedestal was her biggest ambition.

She wasn’t interested in following resurrected Mystra, becoming a lesser god of the Goddess of Magic or something... Though a bit embarrassed to say, Edna, who thought she had good talents, wanted more to become like Elminster, a powerful mage unbound by any person or deity.

Proud Edna didn’t want to be anyone’s subordinate deity.

”By the way, Edna, Neverwinter’s gone.” The ’Old Age Striking King’ looked at the tablet in his hand and said carelessly, ”The volcanic eruption was pretty big this time!”

”What did you say? Neverwinter’s gone?” Devis’s sharp ears caught it and he exclaimed in shock, scrambling up from beside the bonfire and rushing over.

”Ah... yes.” The Sanda King was startled, ”I heard the mountain beneath their city erupted directly; apart from a few out at sea fishing, down the mountain chopping trees, nearly everyone died.”

Devis’s face was full of bewilderment: ”But, isn’t Neverwinter Mountain Range a mining area!”
