Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1120: Chapter 913: The Haber Family Acts Again

Both parties have the sincerity to reach an agreement, so even with numerous disagreements, they can eventually shake hands amicably.

Although Hill felt a twitch at the corner of his eyes when he saw the Hydra extend its tail that had been polished for half a day, he still shook it with a smile.

The Hydra’s long tail merrily twirled in the air, then swiftly and fiercely slashed a dark purple crack, from which two unconscious humans fell out.

Hill looked at them in confusion for a moment and then asked Hydra, ”Who are these people? Is there anyone who must not die?”

Hydra shook its twelve heads simultaneously, chuckling, ”How would I remember the names of humans?

If they can survive, let them not die, right? Is it possible you can just let those two Mages and their followers die?”

Hill thoughtfully observed the very pleased Hydra, ”One light and one dark?”

”Hmm? What are you talking about?” Hydra was visibly puzzled for a moment.

”Too many words lead to mistakes, truly a wise saying!” Snow Old Dog spread his hands and smiled, ”Those two Mages surely have no issues; it’s likely just the followers... from Luca’s side?

Devis’s subordinates seem to be old hands trained for decades, not so easy to let you smuggle them in...

Oh~

Poor Devis~ Hope it’s not that tiger head, or he’d be too miserable.”

The Hydra was actually trying to control its expression, but unfortunately, though having twelve faces was great in battle, it made it easy to miss things in times like this.

”Alright~ no worries.” Content with digging up enough dirt, Hill patiently soothed the Hydra, whose twelve heads were nearly tangling, ”That’s your Toril people’s affair, we Undead Tribe don’t meddle in others’ business~”

”Then why must you dig incessantly?” Hydra’s tail swayed in the air as if it were a mad sword unable to hit anyone.

”We’re all among ourselves, what’s wrong with asking a few questions?” Snow Old Dog said nonchalantly.

Hydra recalled what was said upon his arrival, realizing just how much the Undead Tribe bore grudges, but he was also relieved... There are reasons for picking fights in Toril; the real trouble is when the hassle is baseless... to some extent, it often signals that the higher-ups on both sides might have had disagreements, planning to declare war.

Hydra was actually quite unaccustomed to seeing a friendly faction appear within its own Temple, thus acting a bit restricted.

Moreover, these Followers of the Night were somewhat worried that the seemingly good relations between both parties might flip anytime due to some incident... Those followers in the Temple of the Dark Night truly couldn’t gauge how long their Lady of Darkness could maintain a friendly relationship with the opposing Deities!

Before appearing in the Undead Tribe, most of Hydra’s preparations were for escape strategies... after all, if Shaer turned against them, she wouldn’t care about one of her Chosen lingering among the enemy’s followers!

He guessed it was the same for those two women, always keeping one foot in the shadows when facing the Undead Tribe, just to be fully prepared to escape at any moment.

Snow Old Dog raised an eyebrow, thinking his words had portrayed him as someone with a petty mind, not willing to be commanded by others, yet Hydra’s response was not what he anticipated.

He had to show himself as narrow-minded, to make the Hydra feel his troublesome and extreme nature... there’s no way, in a team, there can’t be two people who call the shots.

Especially the Toril folks seem to always think that if you have strong abilities, you should lead, regardless of any command ability.

So Hydra could join but had to understand, no matter how strong the Hydra was, the Undead Tribe wouldn’t listen.

Yet Hydra apparently hadn’t considered this, either because the Hydra indeed hadn’t thought about vying for leadership, or because Hydra simply couldn’t tell... Well-experienced Snow Old Dog easily judged it as the former.

That’s good, as for what Hydra was worried about, as long as it had nothing to do with the Undead Tribe, he couldn’t care less... analyzing an NPC’s past lives, love, and revenge is best left to those sentimental young ladies!

Hill flashed a smile and tossed out a carriage... Ever since Huayu used it, he found it displeasing everywhere and now viewed it as a mission-specific tool.

”Get a couple of people to load these two survivors onto the carriage, and by the way, give them some blood.” Hill glanced at the two still lying there, gaining more insight into the Shadow Temple’s working style... whether or not there was an issue with these two, their severely wounded, near-dying appearance was definitely no pretense.

People, it’s always easier to hit others hard, much harder to do the same to themselves.

And to hit one’s own even harder, unless these colleagues never return, otherwise, very few want to strike even if they are much more capable.

Already hard to fight against the world, returning to the lair only to be schemed against, where’s the fun in life then... but it seems in any world, the Evil Faction’s concept of fellowship is a bit off.

”Old Dog, should we let them awaken over at Edna’s?” Rain Falling on Mortal Dust walked over, having just cleared the landfill burnt by Scorching Ray.

”No need to worry.” Hill said indifferently, ”These two were tossed out to grab attention anyway. Just clue Edna in a bit, she knows who Hydra is.”

”Why does she know?” the Hydra swimming slowly next to them asked bluntly, ”Is her status with you that important?”

”We make it a habit to record images every time we go out, often replaying them in the temple, a place Edna also frequents,” Snow Cloud Peak explained flatly, then asked with doubt, ”Shaer knows about this matter!”

The massive body of the Hydra suddenly halted, one of its large snake heads extending in front of Snow Cloud Peak to scrutinize him closely: ”Our Lord never discusses matters irrelevant to us.

To followers of the night, it’s just enough to know that completing the mission will bring rewards, while failure invites punishment.”

However, all twelve of the Hydra’s heads seemed to wear expressions of hesitation and fear: ’Right now? Are you also recording? Can our Lord see it too?’

It seemed that the Hydra was afraid that its somewhat foolish behavior just now would be observed by Shaer.

Snow Cloud Peak tilted his head, smiling lightly: ”Now you know. No need to worry, though we are indeed recording this outing, not so many are concerned.

As far as being seen by other undead, I don’t think it’s something to worry about.

The main concern is that Toril people remain unaware of what’s happening!”

Snow Old Dog spoke with a bit of hesitation... He suddenly realized, though it’s unlikely for the halls of several temples to broadcast images from their family’s channel, there’s a chance someone might watch.

”Then what are you hesitating about?” The Hydra keenly noticed the undead’s hesitation.

”Um... Hill might see it,” Snow Cloud Peak opened up frankly, ”But he won’t meddle.”

”The Lord of Agleya?” The Hydra sighed in relief, ”Then there should be no issue, as our Lord specifically emphasized not to take action against Agleya City and Hidden Town.”

The implication in the Hydra’s words was clear to everyone... Shaer expressing such a sentiment indicated her good relationship with the Lord of Agleya, ensuring Hill wouldn’t undertake anything against the Church of the Night.

In this matter, the followers of the night were quite confident.

Hill gently turned his head, speaking in a mild tone: ”I sincerely appreciate your consideration, Lady of Darkness.”

”I’m just glad you’re not questioning me about Luskan,” Shaer replied in a flat tone.

Hill could only smile.

He certainly understood why Luskan wasn’t included.

Shaer wouldn’t give up on any area managed by a Mistrala elector, regardless of who formally owned the city.

”Why aren’t you angry?” Celene joined the conversation, ”I thought you would punish that Hydra.”

”Being outwitted by someone capable of managing tens of millions is not humiliating,” Shaer remained quite impartial, ”As my elector, I certainly understand his capabilities.

The Hydra has never managed even 100 individuals; I favored him for his combat strength, not his management skills.

If today he suddenly matched that commander, then I would be angry.”

Hill blinked; it was said that Shaer’s management style for her followers was ’grid system’: dividing many followers into countless underground units, where each member only knew their unit peers.

This approach ensured that if one unit within the church collapsed, the others could still thrive despite the absence of the fallen unit.

Indeed, this method made it rare for priests of the Church of the Night to be captured by those just faithful, but it also made it difficult for a strong ruler to emerge.

However, this weakness suited Shaer, given her suspicious nature.

The Hydra on the gigantic screen, unaware of its Lord’s assessment, suddenly straightened its long body, peering down the path Edna and the others were taking: ”We need to move quickly.”

When undead creatures are scorched by the Light of Illumination meant to banish evil, there’s a very small chance a golden Soul Crystal might form. Snow Cloud Peak was discussing this harvest—that was essentially the division of spoils— with Rain Falling on Mortal Dust.

Hearing the Hydra’s words, Snow Cloud Peak hurriedly said to Rain Falling on Mortal Dust, ”Cut the nonsense, I’m being generous giving you half.”

Then he quickly walked to the Hydra’s side: ”What’s going on?”

”Members of the Haber Family are coming out,” the Hydra tapped a carriage with its tail, ”These two must be involved, or it will be hard to communicate in the future.”
