Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1118: Chapter 911: The Sudden Appearance of an Old Friend

’Snow Cloud Peak’ wasn’t really thinking that much, but after overhearing Edna’s conversation with those two Quel Senta Mages, Old Dog Snow got an idea to check things out... Whether those people are still alive or not, it’s best to have a definite ending.

He can’t be like the clueless bunch in adventure novels who don’t even know if their teammates... even temporary ones... are alive or dead.

Tsk, isn’t it inevitable to get screwed over in the end?

Also, ’Snow Cloud Peak’ found it odd that they didn’t encounter any enemies after falling into the underground cave this time!

This is too illogical!

Not even in a game or an adventure novel would an adventure team face no misfortune after misfortune~ How could they just comfortably wait in a cave until dawn?

More importantly, after working so hard for two days, how could they get just so little perks!

It’s known that, for William to expand a regular task for hundreds into a family-wide mobilization protection task, he can’t possibly not offer compensation!

Even if there’s no money, there ought to be at least some military exploits and experience points, right?

Could it be that after all this effort, there’s just some basic task phase experience?

And several people around him are murmuring... that their experience is slightly more than others.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ observed and noticed that those saying this were always those with itchy hands from their family and the Black Rose Family... the type who roams in the wild to train their skills, and they’ve certainly tested their skills in Neverwinter Valley.

So Old Dog Snow didn’t even need to ask; seeing those people made him suspect... the trash dump site Sanda King chose might have hit the bullseye.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ always knew that if these guys set traps that kill people, they’d also have to pay a price... The Temporal Artifact would punish intentional and accidental harm differently, and some people wouldn’t be surprised if they turned red-named directly.

But if it kills monsters... as long as it harms enemies, these guys should also be able to gain experience from those traps.

Initially, the traps appeared in the valley because the herb-collecting Undead Tribe wanted to kill the small animals nibbling on the herbs... It was only after catching their own people that it became more entertaining for everyone.

The path of atonement is not easy to tread, but when bored, why not walk it a bit?

’Snow Cloud Peak’ folded his arms, watching the cave entrance about to open, filled with anticipation... Be it monsters or deceased team members, they should provide some recompense, right?

”To the unknown guests~ who might be foes or friends~ I’m coming in~ Be it wine or guns, I want it all~ Ya ya da~” Watching the last stone disappear, ’Snow Cloud Peak’ happily recited a classic villain line, walking into the tunnel with the Undead Tribe behind him rolling their eyes skyward.

However, what appeared in front of them was just a scene ravaged by storms; aside from the stone wall that lost a layer of earth, there was nothing else.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ wasn’t surprised; he remembered the last gust of wind was released by Edna using a scroll, it was quite fierce, comparable to Hill’s tornado.

If there had been something at the entrance, then he would be worried... Though he’s not afraid of dying, he doesn’t want to travel such a long way either.

Though he brought Priests with him, Old Dog Snow was well aware the family Priests might choose not to save him, not to mention resurrecting once would cost enough money to drink for a week!

’Snow Cloud Peak’ led dozens of people forward in a light-hearted manner: the path ahead was winding and uneven, any stronger wind would have died down after bending a few turns.

”Hmm... Seems like they’re enemies.” After turning a corner, ’Snow Cloud Peak’ twitched his mouth, looking at the various oddly shaped fallen Necromancy Knights ahead, he couldn’t help but shiver.

”Hiss~ It’s the first time I’ve known that the stuff they’ve concocted can poison the dead all over again!” Old Dog Snow almost spoke with air leaking from his mouth, hissing as he spoke.

Laying on the ground were not only dead bodies but dead horses... though they were only bones.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ silently stood a hundred meters away from those undead remains in peculiar hues... Walking another step forward would turn the PoisonProof Barrier hanging on him into a beacon.

”Probably too many toxins mixed in?” ’Rain Falling on Mortal Dust’ stretched his neck from behind him to look ahead, clicking his tongue, ”Indeed, Alchemy Potion failures are scarier than the most venomous poisons!

Last time, that Chatterbox in our family concocted a potion claiming to immediately give one a level up but couldn’t find someone to test it... Ended up letting a good-for-nothing take it.”

’Snow Cloud Peak’ asked suspiciously, ”So the fact that the good-for-nothing suddenly got demoted three levels was because of that? I thought he turned black-named by randomly killing someone and got killed to lose levels!”

”William’s title sanctions are so rigorous, who’d dare go black-named? Red-named is the limit... Always hoped for strict regulations before, but now actually feels a bit of looseness would be nice~” ’Rain Falling on Mortal Dust’ curled up his lips.

”If there’s a real grudge, it’s not like there’s no place to seek revenge. If it’s reached the level of being a black name, there’s bound to be some issues. Look at how chaotic Neverwinter Valley is; how many of those with red names are there really? The Temporal Artifact can tell the difference between jokes and malicious murder,” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ said indifferently. ”What William did is actually pretty good; there’s less hostility. At least I think we can play a few more years.”

”Did you bring out the accelerant?” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ said, frowning, ”We need to clear this path.”

”Huh?” ’Rain Falling on Mortal Dust’ asked in confusion, ”Isn’t it good to keep it? Doesn’t it clearly mean there’s an enemy behind us? Why not block this route?”

”It’s best to clear away this poison,” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ mused, ”There are many guys good at using poison in the Underdark. What if they find a way to take this messy poison away?

What if people in Agleya City get poisoned by the poison we created? We can’t take that blame.”

’Rain Falling on Mortal Dust’ thought for a moment, then nodded, waving his hand and throwing out a few small porcelain bottles. The people from the two families behind them, seeing the two reaching an agreement, also threw out a row of bottles and cans.

”Old Dog, should we purify first?” a priest, evidently from the Magic Cult, asked.

”No need, there aren’t many people, it’s pointless,” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ took out an oil painting from his small bag, ”An oil painting’s purification power is stronger.”

He hesitated, looked back at ’Rain Falling on Mortal Dust’, then resolutely turned his head and lifted his arm... With the mountain of corpses 100 meters away, he surely couldn’t miss it, right?

The Scorching Radiance shot forward like a dazzling pillar of light. Platinum flames suddenly ignited, and with the help of endless accelerants, they turned orange-yellow.

The blazing flames suddenly exploded, and a white light screen dozens of meters wide appeared ahead.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ and the undead tribe behind him were stunned... Large knights leading high-headed horses suddenly appeared in the flames. They gazed at the undead tribe before them, placing their right hands over their chests, bowing, and then disappearing with phantom smiles full of gratitude into the light screen.

”What... is this?” Until the little movie in front of them disappeared, an undead tribe member timidly asked, ”Their souls are...”

”Bound to the bodies of the Necromancy Knights, clearly the work of demons. Their bodies aren’t theirs, yet their souls can only weep,” a dull voice arose behind them.

The undead tribe turned around in a panic, ’Snow Cloud Peak’ asked in surprise, ”Hydra? Why are you here?”

The Hydra dangled at the entrance, slowly crawling down, ”Saved two people... apparently companions of the little girl you’re protecting.”

’Snow Cloud Peak’ grimaced, ”Hydra, we’re old friends, can’t we skip the scary jokes?

Even Lady Shaer couldn’t bear her Chosen suddenly turning kind?”

”I just said it, you just believe it...” The Hydra coiled its huge body and said regretfully, ”You guys burned this too quickly! I wanted to collect some to take back and adapt slowly!

Also, the power to expel evil is too strong, I can’t hide with people anymore.”

’Snow Cloud Peak’ blinked... he had heard that a viper could rely on familiarizing itself with different toxins to make itself more poisonous... could the poison-natured Hydra do the same?

But he regretted nothing for not giving Hydra a chance; quite the opposite, he was very glad for his quick reaction.

Shaer’s followers, William never marked them as allies... meaning these NPCs could turn into big bosses at any time.

’Snow Cloud Peak’ displayed a standard polite smile, ”We can’t just believe anything~ Edna and Leonard are our Teraxil Elves’ protection mission and mustn’t go wrong.”

”My target isn’t them at all~” Hydra said cheerfully, ”Even those two junior mages following them will be fine.

I can tell you, the ones targeting your protection targets are the Haber Family next door, and the mission my god gave me is to monitor them.

Our enemies are still aligned.

You see, isn’t that just perfect?”

”Edna is bait?” ’Rain Falling on Mortal Dust’ said in a somewhat unfriendly tone... Being on good terms with the Sanda King, he often took the little girl out to play and didn’t want anything to happen to this interesting little girl.

”It wasn’t me who gave her the bait role; you’ll have to ask Azuth why he didn’t just take her back to his Main Temple,” Hydra stretched a huge head in front of ’Rain Falling on Mortal Dust’, staring at him seriously, ”If not for prior words from my god, that little girl and her teammates wouldn’t be as free as they are now, only needing to deal with just one Haber Family.”

”Ah! Your Hydra is really honest!” Celene suddenly spoke.

Shaer snorted, ”Did he say anything wrong?”
