Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1112: Chapter 905: An Operation Very Familiar to Hill

Hill slightly shook his head. In the history of Neverwinter, the people, burdened by the blood debt of Tyr... had brought down half of the Just Knights Corps, leading this God of Justice to perish alongside Heim... So even if they were entirely annihilated by the volcanic eruption caused by the demon summoned by the Haber family, leaving no one behind, no one would seek justice for their total extermination.

Even Ilmarte, the God of Suffering and the good-hearted member of the Three Gods of Justice, chose not to send followers to aid the tragic survivors of Neverwinter, let alone avenge them.

At that time, the powerful cities around Sword Bay... whether it was Deepwater City, or Luskan, or even the slightly further Baldur’s Gate and Candlekeep, were all wiped out by the ’strong’ pirates. The followers of the God of Suffering were busy running around, which is why people were not as focused on the matter.

But he would rather send his Chosen to help the Kalinsanians, who had never worshipped him, rather than lend a hand to the refugees of Neverwinter, including those pitiful children.

This behavior, although seemingly unbelievable... those thugs of Neverwinter were the cause of Tyr’s death, and as the Lesser God of Tyr, his most loyal follower, the only thing the God of Suffering could do was ignore their pleas... For Ilmarte, who is always full of protective instincts towards children, sympathizes and aids sufferers, this was the only time he allowed his hatred to outweigh his sacred duties.

Finally, there’s Tom, reluctantly taking over Tyr’s duties... He even had to sacrifice his ambiguous relationship with the Red Knight for it.

No matter how many rumors there may be outside, the truth is that the other two of the Three Gods of Justice preferred to follow Tyr... They were originally moved by Tyr to pursue justice.

This is probably why almost no one survived in Neverwinter by the end of the Magicplague. Many abandoned justice for darkness, but to dispose of a God of Justice for personal desires is rare across the Multiverse, likely unique to them.

But this time, the Haber family genuinely sinned... the greatest sin in Neverwinter was not committed, thanks to Hill’s intervention.

Moreover, Heim’s followers are still in Neverwinter!

This time, there’s no furious Tyr dragging Heim into a joint demise.

In truth, if the two Lesser Gods of the God of Justice merely abandoned those thugs and their offspring mercilessly, the Guardian God would be capable of far worse.

With Heim’s character, even if he couldn’t enter Toril, he would squat at the entrance of Styx, capturing and crushing the souls of those who killed his faithful followers.

Hill truly didn’t expect that the Haber family would dare to sacrifice their lives to summon a demon in such a situation.

Otherwise, even though he is not inclined to meddle, he would have given a slight warning to the Harpists.

But who would have thought the Haber family would go to such extremes?

After all, their entanglement with the Demon Lord has been spreading over the past two years... It’s impossible for the Harpists in Agleya City to be unaware of it.

But in Toril, many people have dealings with demons... Generally, these folks, even when summoning demons, only manage to affect a small town. Demon Followers aren’t that foolish; unless they can ensure acceptance by the Abyss, dying would mean becoming Wanderers in the Crystal Wall.

Occurrences of Neverwinter’s scale are indeed rare.

He couldn’t help but ask the two goddesses, who seemed indifferent to a once-glorious city’s annihilation: ”Why would the Haber family dare to do this?

Let’s put aside the issue of sin and claim they’ve become Demon Followers, but Heim...”

”That can only prove they’re losing control of that Demon Lord.” Shaer, with a soft voice, expressed a hint of mockery audible to anyone who listened, ”Evil Divine Artifacts always have side effects... unless their user can completely suppress them.

Even if only borrowing power, after a long time and being away from the original owner, they’d give their users a hard time to demand more sacrificial offerings.

To know, back then, the Witch Queen who captured Six Fingers had power not far from Six Fingers, but because the Demon Lord could offer more fitting sacrifices, that seat ultimately chose to help Six Fingers.

Otherwise, how could Six Fingers maintain an amicable relationship with the Witch Queen in the end... They were all toyed with!”

”Altogether, the Haber family doesn’t match a single Six Finger.” Celene laughed lightly, ”Let alone the Witch Queen. That seat’s original owner, Lalock, was a mage from the same era as the Witch Queen, and they had always been on good terms. Even if toying with her, the Sakoxiel’s Seat wouldn’t dare harm that lady’s life.

But what is the Haber family? The subordinate of a friend’s master? A bunch of tools?

The Sakoxiel’s Seat must have very stringent requirements for offerings, and any slight deviation allows the imprisoned Demon Lord some freedom.”

Shaer, suddenly indicating her exasperation, continued: ”This time, Toril almost collapsed, trying to expel all Creatures from Otherworld beyond the world’s tolerance, and this lord controlled by the chair was naturally included.

Though the Sakoxiel’s Seat managed to retain it forcefully, it undoubtedly expended a lot of energy.

Even if this energy was accumulated over the years through the Haber family’s sacrifices, which Divine Artifact would acknowledge that?

What’s theirs is theirs.

The Haber family likely has no way out but to sacrifice others or their entire family.”

Hill sighed: ”Then they must fight a deadly battle with Edna and the others this time!”

”Absolutely!” Celene cheerfully replied, ”Not just Edna, but there’s also a Transcendent Half-Elf! They’re both excellent materials for a sacrifice to the Sakoxiel’s Seat.

The Haber family probably thinks that together, these two could match Edna’s biological father.

Indeed, it’s much better to face a girl whose father is not around than Azuth’s own son~ Heh~ Hee~

Such a beautiful wish!

Even Cyric would admire their perceptiveness.”

Dare not confront the son of Azuth, then dare directly confront Mystra?

The absurdity left Hill at a loss for words... One could only say, evil begets evil?

After all, few evil god followers with multiple grievances find themselves first eliminated by Mystra and then have their souls obliterated by Heim.

Like the Goddess of the Night, who with a mere move could decimate cities... The last city she destroyed was a deed of her High Priest, yet that priest still lived quite well!

Shaer and Celene both seemed to notice the anomaly.

The Maiden of the Moon quietly inquired her sister: ”Has the Haber family recently hosted Benshasha, Shaer?”

”Umm...,” Shaer thought confusedly before responding, ”Benshasha wouldn’t care for such a filthy family.”

The Maiden of Misfortune, aside from competing with Tymora, would typically not allow herself to be overlooked when people sang praises of her sister, spending little time messing with families like the Habers.

”Then it must be the Tablets of Fate,” Celene proclaimed, ”The Tablet must have had repeated involvement with this family’s affairs, not just once.”

Hill blinked and couldn’t resist taking a glance at the large screen. Perhaps concerned about encountering enemies in the middle of the night, even the Undead Tribe took lodging there.

While most sought some rest holding branches, Edna and the other three stayed at one side, silently using their tablets... Meanwhile, on the other huge screen, the Black Rose and the Magic Cult in Hidden Town had begun to gather.

Surely everyone knows the way to Snow Old Dog is easy, but too many would not be ideal.
