Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Capítulo 1105: Chapter 898: Two Who Offered Their Loyalty

As for Luca pledging loyalty to Edna so quickly… The title of the Quel Senta people’s captain is not given lightly.

Otherwise, Devis wouldn’t have kept calling her Miss Edna, instead of Captain.

Devis knew Edna understood their discontent; otherwise, she wouldn’t let them act independently.

If she gave direct orders, they wouldn’t disobey.

But despite all the dissatisfaction, upon realizing Edna was superior in every aspect, Devis decided to stop struggling… The Quel Senta people admit defeat.

Besides, Edna is his teacher’s daughter, so following her orders isn’t shameful… Just consider her the lead disciple under the teacher!

The reason Devis brought Luca over is that he knows this guy is straightforward and has the least desire to control others.

For Luca, the art of potion making is more enticing than anything, but he also wouldn’t submit to someone inferior to him.

Edna is strong enough and offered a sufficient lure, so Luca naturally followed her half-willingly.

As for the other two… although both are Azuth’s followers, they don’t come from the same city; Devis doesn’t plan to speak for them.

Whether they submit or resist, it’s up to them.

Though Devis wasn’t very familiar with Luca before, he understands that the chief apprentice of the Transmutation School, due to his expertise in Alchemy Potions, is frequently introduced to lively girls from various Archmage families… Whoever marries Luca certainly won’t bankrupt her husband!

So, upon hearing Edna’s father’s introduction of his daughter, Luca reacted so strongly, bringing numerous suave men to meet Miss Edna.

But as for the other two, he only heard their names and knew they’re excellent, but not much else.

Devis glanced at the two cleaning their wounds with medicine; even at this point, they haven’t called Edna Captain?

Could it be they truly desire Miss Edna’s favor?

But given their current behavior, how is that possible?

The two, one with charming men, the other with ordinary followers, act in perfect harmony… Whether they have ulterior motives, Devis doesn’t know.

Anyway, Devis has shown Edna he barely knows those two… If they were close, seeing Devis not even cleaning his wounds while dragging the blood-covered Luca to Edna, they would surely follow.

Rather than being surrounded by followers, fussing over tiny wounds.

Devis sighed; compared to Simba City, which predominantly worships Azuth, Moduken City is a bit complicated.

After all, back then, the former Mystra and Azuth were nearly inseparable, so many high priests of Azuth are also followers of Mystra.

Then with the change of Mystra, these followers became awkward… If initially, they remained in Azuth’s faction, over the decade, with the current Mystra showing obvious hostility towards Azuth, some chose to embrace Mystra.

At this time, Azuth’s suppressed deputies, Safras and Visaron, started stirring.

Surprisingly, Safras, who once opposed Azuth only to submit, seemed merely concerned about his future, preparing to play both sides.

In contrast, Visaron, who escaped Talos with Azuth’s protection, conspicuously intends to break free from Azuth’s control, even leaving the Goddess of Magic’s faction, courting Bane and even seeking out the enraged Talos.

Describing this God of Necromancy’s folly… Simba City’s upper circles think even if Azuth’s future isn’t bright, Visaron could be doomed first.

No matter Mystra’s dissatisfaction with Azuth, she won’t let Visaron use him as a stepping stone to rise, even less allow him to independently become a deity… Although Midnight acts willfully, she isn’t unscrupulous.

She merely chose to suppress Azuth and gave Kelben a chance, allowing him to vie for Azuth’s divinity of the Deity of Mages role; whether he succeeds depends on his capabilities.

If with favorable circumstances Kelben fails, Azuth should understand her intent and at least stop meddling!

Speaking of mages, none considers Azuth’s request for Midnight abandoning the Kind Alignment as interference… Visaron’s wavering isn’t solely due to his natural talent for betrayal.

Many mages from the Evil Faction are dissatisfied with Mystra’s behavior; the Red Robe Nation Ser is now letting Bane’s Necromancy Sect seize power, not just due to Lich Sazzastan’s might… Many Dark Mages plan to use this Undead Magistrate, Bane’s deceitful followers, to show Mystra how they feel; that’s no secret.

Ferun Great Land’s major Mage Towers are aware of why Ser suddenly changed its highest governor at this juncture.

Otherwise, only those who have some relation with Edna would enter this path of destiny.

Actually, most people understand that after encountering that reincarnation of Mystra… that’s someone who hasn’t appeared for so long, almost every Transcendent Mage has reached a consensus that Mystra might have directly reincarnated as an infant… she will inevitably face the frenzied attacks led by Sazzastan’s Undead Sect.

But with Edna here, the hope of survival is definitely greater, after all, Azuth is still watching from the starry sky!

Devis coldly glanced at those still unrepentant genius mages from Moduken City, deciding to stay away from them.

Still not giving up after seeing the real Edna?

Devis was sure that whatever they were plotting, their end wouldn’t be good.

But it’s quite good, if it weren’t for their recklessness, how would his and Luca’s discernment stand out?

They also had been competing with Edna for dominance before!

Devis showed a satisfied smile… Luka, who was having his wounds cleaned and treated by his servants next to him, suddenly spoke up: “Devis, the bad idea you have has nothing to do with me, right?

Please don’t bring me into it, I just want to go to Everwinter River to look at herbs now.”

Devis’s face twisted directly; he really felt like he was about to suffocate… Could such a fellow really be the first handsome man of Simba City? Was it the bright future that blinded those women?

“Who arranged your servants for you?” Devis couldn’t help asking, he had just made a mental note of Luka’s servants, not yet asking if Luka really thought that way.

But the recent conversation made Devis doubt; even if Luka had the intelligence, did he have the crafty mind?

Luca pouted: “I know what you want to say, do you think I can’t think of that? I’m also from a Great Nobility! Only a fool wouldn’t understand when that person introduces their daughter.

I just don’t like wasting energy on useless areas, but it’s not like I don’t think.

If you don’t want to marry someone scarier than McClare Shavel, then it’s best to choose a group of sufficiently outstanding, at least sufficiently beautiful, male servants.

What I need is just to show an unwilling attitude, not to scheme against that lady, anyway, you absolutely can’t do these things.

What those two are thinking is beyond understanding.”

McClare Shavel was a lady whom the noble youths of Quel Senta were in awe of… both of her parents were transcendent figures, and her father was the leader of a City State.

Before she married out, people only heard that she wasn’t very good-tempered and liked the Crimson Tears.

Those vividly pink, blood-red, or flame-orange crystals are also called ‘Tampas Tears,’ and it’s said they are the tears of lovers shed because their beloved died in war.

From that legend, one can understand how rare and valuable these gemstones are… many die in war, but few genuinely weep a few sincere tears for their lovers.

As a result, after being married off to a Great Nobility of another City State… a tycoon owning three arenas! But even that Great Nobility declared bankruptcy in just three years, respectfully returning McClare Shavel with the dozens of mines she bought, said to hold Crimson Tears, back to her parents.

Devis remained silent for a while before saying: “I kind of don’t know if the teacher understands what pampered and willful means in Quel Senta?”

“I think he doesn’t know his daughter has turned out this way.” Luca changed into another identical gray robe before slowly walking over, “That lady is still quite tough in her ways.”

Devis calmly said, “Tough isn’t the same as willful, don’t measure her by Quel Senta women, many places in The North are ruled by women.”

Luca shrugged: “I’m indifferent.”

He pointed towards the back: “Since we’ve already fully acknowledged the captain, should I go chat with that Nature Mage? I actually wanted to ask him about the essence of some herbs for a long time… the views of Nature Mages must be quite different from those of Alchemists.”

Devis nodded: “Be careful not to offend the elves’ taboos, especially don’t mention materials from living creatures.”

“I’m not foolish enough to discuss necromancy materials with a Nature Mage,” Luca said irritably.

Edna actually held a rather favorable attitude towards these two from Simba City… Although she had a bellyful of grievances towards her father, she still believed he wouldn’t want her dead.

For Azuth’s son, there’s no need either… how many people in this world are worth him sacrificing his own daughter?
