Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Capítulo 1104: Chapter 897: Edna Leaves No Loopholes

Edna grinned as she watched the team members scrambling, then turned to glance at Leonard.

The half-elf was a bit cautious at first… He wasn’t fond of these Quel Senta visitors, but for Edna’s sake, he finally activated the forest vines with a wave.

At least when those short arrows were about to hit critical spots, the vines could swing them away or simply serve as a shield.

Edna smiled; she knew from the start that Leonard’s straightforward thinking wouldn’t affect his combat effectiveness… The Tower of Nature wouldn’t host a Transcendent Mage for nothing.

And most creatures in the Supreme Forest were enchanted beings, extremely powerful.

The Black Rose had direct encounters with those creatures before, so the ‘Old Age Striking King’ warned her not to overestimate the strength of monsters in the Neverwinter Forest… A goblin from the Supreme Forest could easily take down ten gnoll people from the Neverwinter Forest.

How should I put it? Creatures that can’t feel pain and don’t fear are always harder to deal with than those that would run away.

Edna observed the battle scene ahead and then compared herself with these Quel Senta Mages of similar rank and age, nodding in satisfaction… She was pretty strong!

Though she’s spent years amongst the undead… No, amongst the kind of undead that’s most adept at fighting, it’s hard to gauge her combat level.

After all, she can’t really compare her fighting strength with Mr. Snow Cloud Peak, right?

Although she knows that gentleman’s commanding power comes from his intelligence, Edna finds it hard to feel respect for the Snow Old Dog, often seen shoved and bullied in the plaza.

A quick glance at the white-robed mage beginning to command the undead to scout nearby made Edna slightly guilty, thinking: Anyway, she hasn’t scorned him openly, even if this cunning commander wouldn’t notice what she’s thinking, right?

She just has to follow the strategy of ‘Old Age Striking King’, obey his orders, but scorn his fighting capability, isn’t that fine?

Edna truly can’t respect a mage who would miss a five-meter fixed target… If not immortal, this commander would probably face early demise.

To ensure these mages get their practice, Elvia led Josanie flying high above, while the undead on protection duty stuck to the rear as per the agreement, only stepping in if Edna and Leonard face life-threatening danger.

Thus, even with ‘Old Age Striking King’ and ‘Cunlü’ tagging along, they couldn’t come and chat with the little girl.

Edna’s boredom was apparent to anyone.

Devis and the others, struggling against the gnoll people, felt despair when looking back.

The half-elf’s expression when rescuing them was lively, generally classifiable into two types… Can’t dodge this, and can’t hit that?

Standing at the back, Edna seemed uninterested in watching their incompetence, staring blankly… Yet even then, sporadic arrows fired by gnoll people at her were bounced away by the silver sphere swirling around her!

Devis gritted his teeth in embarrassment; what he thought earlier now seemed a joke.

They struggled even against mutated gnoll people!

Those high-level warriors they placed in the rear were already behind them, ready to shield them at any moment… If the nature mage hadn’t activated some vines, those warriors might have already jumped in!

Edna seemed nonchalant, but she was surrounded by various buffs… Even if gnoll people primarily used physical attacks, she still cast an Anti-Magic Field and Starlight Cloak on herself, throwing in a Breathless Aura to evade breath attacks due to years spent around dragons.

Even with such thorough defenses, she added a Rainbow Light Sphere around her, excellent for deflecting arrows as long as it didn’t explode.

Due to proficiency, Edna was primarily using Sixth Circle Spells, but considering the difficulty many mages have even with Fourth Ring Spells, the young girl was, in some respects, not far behind those Eighth Ring Mages.

Moreover, Edna could cast Seventh Circle Spells, but using spells of higher circles consumes a notably different amount of mana… Edna was glad her first learned magic feat was Material-Free Cast.

Most fortunately, perhaps due to some luck in her bloodline, her spells genuinely didn’t need materials, unlike most mages who only bypass cheaper materials.

However, Edna suspected many who claimed they couldn’t achieve complete material-free magic faced unbearable mana consumption, and if required to drink magic potions just to cast, using some materials would be cheaper… Like her, the reason she’s only casting Sixth Circle is that she can’t afford Seventh!

Edna envied the south, where Lord Hill allegedly freely cast Ninth Ring Spells, indifferent to mana expenditure, which was so enviable!

This world, always like this, is filled with those wealthy folks with no place to spend, while the poor souls clutch their wallets in tears.

Calculating the time, she cast a Light Body Skill on herself… ‘Old Age Striking King’ showed her undead encounters in the Underdark, usually, the unfortunate ones ignored their footing… The diggers being either zombies or Purple Worms.

Although the Neverwinter Forest seemed devoid of these creatures, the undead’s constant activity in the Underdark’s outskirts suggests anything might emerge!

Edna definitely doesn’t want to be held by a zombie and bitten… even if the priest could purify the corpse poison from her, she might still die of disgust.

“Hmm…” Shaer didn’t know when she returned, but looking at Edna on the giant screen, she said hesitantly, “If she had had this kind of vigilance before, there’s no way she would have been taken down by Cyric in her own Divine Kingdom!”

Hill hesitated for a few seconds before asking: “The Haber family intends to make a move against her in the Neverwinter Forest?”

Shaer couldn’t help but laugh: “That group of guys has been following them underground for a long time and still hasn’t found a chance. She’s so well-guarded that even if the ground collapsed, it doesn’t look like it’s easy to fall into the cavern.”

Hill also laughed… What to do? The plot hasn’t even started, and they’re stuck because the heroine is too vigilant!

“What’s there to worry about!” The moonlight of Celene once again shined in the pool, “If the Haber family can’t do it, someone else can!

Maybe soon there’ll be an earthquake and tornado coming together!”

“Nonsense,” Shaer said coldly, “Even the Tablets of Fate must adhere to the world’s orders. It can only guide, not directly intervene. Otherwise, what role do the gods of Toril play?”

Celene chuckled: “Tsk, tsk~ just wait and see!”

Hill agreed more with the Maiden of the Moon’s perspective on this point.

Though what Shaer said is true, if the Tablets of Fate wanted to cause an earthquake, does it really need to act personally?

It simply has to guide someone into a series of coincidences.

Especially with the Haber family watching closely from below, it just has to help someone have a flash of inspiration!

Besides, are they actually talking about the Tablets of Fate?

Hill couldn’t help but glance at the silhouette under the tree. Shaer couldn’t possibly be unaware of Celene’s true intentions in her words, but her instinctive reaction was to speak on behalf of the Tablets of Fate.

It seems AO’s two daughters were not entirely raised in vain; at least one is willing to leave him some dignity in front of the other worlds’ people.

The battle on the giant screen had halted; the Quel Senta mages had initially struggled with the gnolls that suddenly turned more cunning than humans. Once they figured out these monsters’ tricks, they could handle them.

No matter how much they mutate, gnolls can’t turn into dragons.

So, these monsters hanging from trees attacking humans who dared enter their territory decisively fled by swinging on vines after half of their kind had perished. Except for the unlucky ones caught by the vines activated by Leonard and crushed, the other gnolls escaped hundreds of meters away almost instantly.

Watching the angry team members chasing the gnolls, Edna shouted with hands on her hips: “Alright! Since they’ve run, you don’t need to chase them! How much are gnolls worth? Why not move ahead; there are great herbs near the Everwinter River~

Since some of you are learning alchemy, you should also have some knowledge in herbalism, right?”

Edna’s shouting not only calmed the furious junior mages but also gave them an excuse to back down.

So, Devis decisively pulled Luca, who was good at potion-making, towards Edna: “Captain, is there any special herb?

Luca is very skilled at making potions, even the teacher speaks highly of his creativity in this area.”

Edna squinted and smiled, nodding at the grey-robed mage awkwardly following behind Devis: “That’s indeed great! I’m not really interested in this, just know that the herbs there are of high value.

The Teraxil Elves love to collect there and sell them to Hill’s magic materials shop.

You should know, the Lord of Agleya always has high standards, and ordinary magic plants can only be sold to his grocery store.”

Luca’s eyes lit up… No pharmacist would be indifferent to materials; the more precious, the better!

He forced a smile: “That’s wonderful! Captain, let’s hurry over there!”

Devis glanced at Luca, then at Edna… He didn’t believe Edna, who had a good relationship with the Teraxil Elves, wouldn’t know the names of those herbs.

But just as they kept testing Edna, she would of course test them too.

Devis didn’t plan to point this out, it’d be better to leave this foul-smelling place sooner.
