Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 1227: Did anyone call me at 1226?

That night, Gu Kai really didn’t go home and slept in the guest room at Wen Jin’s house.

The next morning, Gu Kai was still inquiring Wen Jin about the person he liked, who exactly it was.

At the breakfast table, Wen Jin replied with a faint smile, “It’s definitely not Bai Yiyi, so you can rest assured.”

“Whatever, if you liked Bai Yiyi, you could just pursue her, what’s it got to do with me?” Gu Kai glanced at him sideways.

Wen Jin shook his head, “How can it not concern you? Bai Yiyi’s marriage still needs your approval, right? With the role you’re playing, who would think you’re Tongtong’s dad—you clearly look more like Bai Yiyi’s dad.”

“Ah Jin, if you keep this up, we’re going to fall out,” Gu Kai feigned anger and darkened his expression, then added, “I’m doing this for Tongtong’s benefit. If Bai Yiyi married just any man, wouldn’t Tongtong be the one to suffer in the future?”

“Mmm, exactly, so you have to stand firm, never compromise,” Wen Jin’s eyes brimmed with humor.

Due to Qian Songnan’s son being admitted to Kangning Hospital, on Tuesday, Qian Songnan visited Wen’s Pharmaceutical Factory again.

Wen Jin was not in the office; the person receiving him was Bai Yiyi.

“Miss Bai, is Fang Zhiwei still pestering Doctor Gu?”

Qian Songnan looked at Bai Yiyi with concern, although he was lecherous and had harbored designs on Bai Yiyi previously. But compared to his son’s life, women seemed much less important to him.

Bai Yiyi’s eyes flashed with confusion and only after a moment did she respond, “It seems not anymore. Why do you ask, General Qian?”

“Ha ha, it looks like a woman like Fang Zhiwei bullies the weak and fears the strong. Miss Bai, you are just too kind-hearted. Someone like Fang Zhiwei, who has long broken up with Doctor Gu, would continue to cling to him.”

Bai Yiyi blinked, a thought fleeting through her mind, her gaze towards Qian Songnan changed, “Could it be, the person who sent a warning to Fang Zhiwei that night was you?”

“Miss Bai, don’t worry, all I did was have someone warn her, didn’t really do anything to her. You and Doctor Gu are a well-matched couple, and you have such a smart and sensible daughter, how could we let Fang Zhiwei take advantage of the situation? In the future, whoever dares…”

“General Qian, please don’t let there be a next time with this sort of thing.”

Before Qian Songnan could finish, Bai Yiyi cut him off.

Seeing her stern face, Qian Songnan thought she was afraid and spoke with a smile, “Miss Bai, you don’t need to worry, I won’t say it was you who instigated me.”

“What did you say?”

Bai Yiyi glared with anger, the thought that she instigated him, what a joke.

Qian Songnan continued, “Miss Bai, I’m just hoping you could speak with Doctor Gu for me, asking him to figure out a way to cure my son’s illness, he and Director Gu, as well as…”

“General Qian, you warned Fang Zhiwei just for this?” Bai Yiyi interrupted Qian Songnan again, she knew this man was no good.

“Well, I really did it for your benefit, Miss Bai. Look, I helped you get rid of a love rival, now you help Doctor Gu cure my son.”

“Gu Kai is a doctor, he will certainly do his utmost to cure your son, even though I don’t know what illness your son has, but you have to trust the doctor,” Bai Yiyi said with a rush of emotion due to her anger, “But don’t talk nonsense, and definitely don’t do unscrupulous things and then blame it on me. And stop bothering Fang Zhiwei in the future.”

“So, you’ve agreed?” Qian Songnan pressed, he couldn’t care less about Fang Zhiwei.

Bai Yiyi’s lips tightened, she said sternly, “I’ll let you know after asking Gu Kai.”

“Good, Miss Bai, I wasn’t wrong about you, you really are kind-hearted,” Qian Songnan stood up, speaking with an undertone, “Don’t worry, as long as my son’s illness is cured, I absolutely won’t bother Fang Zhiwei again.”

“…”

Bai Yiyi wanted to say something, but Qian Songnan walked out of the office in a good mood.

She raised her hand to her temple and exhaled a breath of turbid air, then took out her cellphone to make a call.

“Hello!”

The phone rang several times before a woman’s voice came from the other end. Bai Yiyi was stunned, thinking she had dialed the wrong number, and looked at her mobile phone again.

It was Gu Kai’s number, “I’m looking for Gu Kai.”

“Oh, Doctor Gu is in the operating room right now. If you have any urgent matters, you can tell me, and I’ll inform him as soon as he comes out.”

“Tell him to give me a call after the surgery.”

“Okay.”

After hanging up, Bai Yiyi continued working.

But by the time work ended, she still hadn’t received a call from Gu Kai.

Bai Yiyi cursed Gu Kai in her heart, decided not to call him again, and drove straight to the hospital.

The weather was turning autumnal, and by the time she arrived at the hospital, dusk had already fallen.

Through the car window, Bai Yiyi saw Gu Kai walking out of the hospital with a woman, chatting as they walked toward the parking lot.

Bai Yiyi took out her mobile phone, her gaze shifting in the direction of the parking lot.

Just as Gu Kai and the woman got into the car and she was about to call him, her own mobile phone rang.

“Mommy.”

The caller was Tongtong.

A smile immediately bloomed on Bai Yiyi’s face, her voice tender and cheerful: “Tongtong, mommy will be home soon, you be a good girl and wait at home for mommy, okay?”

“Good girl, Tongtong.”

Tongtong’s childish voice penetrated through the phone line into her ears, making Bai Yiyi’s heart soften. She said goodbye to Tongtong, started the engine, and left.

Just as Gu Kai’s car hit the road, he caught sight of that familiar license plate number. His narrow eyes squinted slightly, and his handsome brows furrowed.

“Doctor Gu, when you meet…”

“Did anyone call me this afternoon?” Before Wei Jingshan could finish speaking, Gu Kai suddenly turned to look at her with a serious tone.

Wei Jingshan blinked, and then smacked her own head in annoyance, “Ah, Doctor Gu, I forgot about this. After you entered the operating room this afternoon, someone named Bai Yiyi called you, asking me to tell you to give her a call back. I’m so sorry.”

“Did she say anything else?”

“No, just that you should call her back.” Wei Jingshan immediately shook her head, giving Gu Kai an innocent look.

In the evening, after Bai Yiyi had bathed Tongtong, told her a fairy tale story, and put her to sleep, she returned to her room when her phone started ringing.

Seeing the caller ID, she pressed the answer button and spoke indifferently, “Hello?”

“I’ll be at your house in a bit, don’t go to sleep yet.”

Over the phone, Gu Kai’s voice came through, and Bai Yiyi frowned, “What do you want?”

“Isn’t it you who were looking for me? It’s not convenient to talk while driving. I’ll explain when I get there.” Gu Kai’s tone carried a hint of amusement, as though he was in a good mood.

Bai Yiyi pursed her lips, thinking to herself, after your date with another woman, you finally remember I needed something. With this kind of speed, if someone was waiting for you to save them, they’d be long gone.

She really wanted to say it was nothing, but then she thought of Qian Songnan, and held back, her voice becoming cold and firm, “I know.”
