Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 1225: 1224 Blood relations are truly amazing

Gu Kai’s expression slightly changed, but he remained silent.

He did mind, indeed.

Perhaps it was due to the initial bias, because of Fu Jingyi, that he disliked Bai Yiyi, and their repeated confrontations. Later, Bai Yiyi gave birth to Tongtong without telling him.

If it were just a simple friendship, Gu Kai might have accepted it.

But between him and Bai Yiyi, there existed Tongtong, making their relationship complex. Especially since Fang Zhiwei brought up the past in front of him again that afternoon.

“Aunt Bai, that’s the past, you don’t need to apologize. It was Fu Jingyi who took my sister, and it was Fu Jingyi who caused my mother’s death, it has nothing to do with you.”

Gu Kai’s voice was somewhat harsh.

“That matter, indeed has nothing to do with Yiyi, Ah Kai, back then, I didn’t know Fu Jingyi had taken your sister. Later when your parents were searching for your sister, I questioned Fu Jingyi, but he denied it.”

Bai Yuqin’s voice carried a hint of sorrowful reminiscence: “The harm has already been done, I know, no matter how I apologize, I can’t make up for the pain in your and your sister’s heart, nor in your father’s heart, and your mother won’t come back to life.”

Gu Kai’s handsome brows furrowed with a layer of sternness, his thin lips slightly pursed, emanating a sense of distant coldness.

“Ah Kai, I was also surprised when I first found out that Tongtong was your daughter. I even advised Yiyi, if you wanted to raise Tongtong, to let her return Tongtong to you. But Yiyi is stubborn. She feels guilty about the past, yet Tongtong is more important to her than her own life.”

“I know, Tongtong is very important to her.”

Gu Kai no longer thought of taking Tongtong away from Bai Yiyi’s hands now, perhaps subconsciously, he no longer blamed Bai Yiyi for the past, not wanting her to endure the pain that his mother had suffered.

On the surface, Gu Kai appeared arrogant and indifferent, especially towards Bai Yiyi, seldom showing a good face. But inside, he was still kind.

He wasn’t as bad as he appeared.

“Ah Kai, if possible, I hope you and Yiyi can be together. If you two were together, Tongtong would truly have a complete home and grow up in a happy environment. For selfish reasons, I don’t want Tongtong to grow up in a single-parent family like Yiyi did.”

Gu Kai’s face changed, and suddenly he stood up and said, “Aunt Bai, I have a surgery tomorrow, I need to go back now.”

Bai Yuqin also stood up, “Ah Kai, consider my suggestion!”

“Aunt Bai, you should rest early too.”

Gu Kai finished speaking and strode towards the hallway.

Upon leaving the villa, Gu Kai drove, not wanting to go home, and somehow, found himself driving to the cemetery.

At eleven o’clock at night, the cemetery bore the chills of autumn, and the night breeze carried a touch of faint sorrow, making Gu Kai unavoidably sad every time he visited.

From a distance, he saw a familiar license plate, a flicker of surprise in his eyes. Drawing closer and parking his car, he dialed a number.

After several rings, Wen Jin’s voice came through, “Hello, Ah Kai.”

“Where are you?”

Gu Kai lowered the car window, his ink-dark eyes focusing on the car next to him. On the other side of the phone, Wen Jin asked without answering, “Is something up?”

“Yeah, I need to see you.”

Gu Kai closed the car window and opened the car door to step out.

Possibly hearing the sound of the car door, Wen Jin asked in confusion over the phone, “Did you just get home, or are you finding another place to drink?”

Gu Kai curved his lips faintly, softly saying, “No, I just arrived at the cemetery. Quite coincidentally, I saw your car. How filial of you, not sleeping in the middle of the night, coming to the cemetery to accompany your uncle and aunt.”

“You came to the graveyard?”

Wen Jin seemed quite surprised, indeed it was a coincidence.

Gu Kai climbed the steps, step by step moving forward, in the distance, there was a flickering light, it was in front of Wen Hongrui and his wife’s tombstone.

“Running to the graveyard in the middle of the night, this isn’t like you, Ah Jin, do you have something troubling you too?”

Gu Kai looked at Wen Jin with concern in his eyes. He had known Wen Jin for so long and had never seen him appear so burdened with worries because Wen Jin was the type of person who didn’t wear his emotions on his sleeve.

He always had a gentle smile when dealing with people, yet there was a faint estrangement. With friends, he was sincere, caring, and in his memory, Wen Jin had never had particularly awful moods.

But at this moment, even in the night, by the dim light, Gu Kai could still see the unsorted emotions in Wen Jin’s expression.

“No, just missing my parents, came here to talk to them.”

Wen Jin’s lips curled into a slight smile, turned his gaze to look at the tombstone, where the smiling faces of his parents seemed as if they were still alive.

But they had already been gone for a long time.

When his parents were alive, although he single-handedly managed the pharmaceutical factory, he didn’t feel tired.

Back then, life was joyful, and though he occasionally felt down for some reasons, overall, he was quite happy.

“If you have anything troubling you, you can talk about it, I’ll be your listener tonight.”

Gu Kai stared at Wen Jin for a few seconds with a probing look, stepped forward, and bowed towards the tombstone, “Uncle, Auntie, it’s Ah Kai, can you tell me what secret Ah Jin just told you?”

“Get lost, if my parents could really tell you, it wouldn’t just be me left now.”

Wen Jin knew Gu Kai was comforting him in his own way, felt a warm current in his heart, and nudged him with his elbow, “And you, not sleeping in the middle of the night, came to the graveyard to visit Auntie?”

“Yeah, you’re being so filial, can’t I be a little filial too?”

Gu Kai laughed softly, then left Wen Jin with a remark, “Wait for me for a bit, I’ll go talk to my mom for a second, let’s go have a drink somewhere later.”

“Have you got surgery tomorrow?”

Wen Jin asked, amused.

“That’s tomorrow’s problem,” Gu Kai gestured dismissively and walked away swiftly.

***

Wen Jin and Gu Kai did not go out to drink, but instead bought some barbecue and side dishes and went back to Wen Jin’s house.

“Bloodlines are really miraculous. Before, Ranran always liked to eat these junk foods. My parents didn’t let her eat, and she would cling to me pitifully, asking me to secretly take her out to eat. It wasn’t until you and Ranran recognized each other that I realized Ranran is just like you.”

Watching Gu Kai enjoy his barbecue, Wen Jin couldn’t help but reflect on the past.

Gu Kai just finished a lamb skewer, still holding the bamboo stick, and upon hearing Wen Jin’s words, he smiled and said, “Right, the first time I had barbecue with Ranran, it was at the barbecue restaurant near the hospital. I discovered we had common topics, and we really hit it off talking.”

“Talking about food?”

Wen Jin laughed.

Gu Kai nodded, his smile spreading across his face, “Ranran is a true foodie, just like me, loves eating various street foods. Later, I took her to a night market to eat once. You and Mo Xiuchen are just too serious, actually, some street food is really delicious.”
