Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 474: Chapter 373: Exposing the Truth Behind the Scenes

At night, Zhou Yun returned home.

Song Chi was not at home as he had a dinner engagement that evening.

Zhou Yun sent Song Chi a message to let him know she had arrived home.

Two minutes later, Song Chi replied: I’ll be back within an hour.

Zhou Yun responded with a simple ”okay” and stared at the phone screen for a while before she found Lew Qingqing’s number in her contacts and dialed it.

It took a while for Lew Qingqing to answer the phone, and her tone was oddly sarcastic as she said, ”Wow, I didn’t expect you’d actually take the initiative to call me.”

Zhou Yun got straight to the point and asked, ”Was it you who sent me that private message on Weibo from a secondary account, claiming you were pregnant?”

There was a sudden silence on the other end of the line.

After a long pause, Lew Qingqing finally asked faintly, ”Why do you think it was me? Didn’t you already know? Why would I say it again to you?”

”Because you wanted to use me as a mouthpiece to tell others that you’re pregnant,” Zhou Yun said. ”You wanted more people to know about your pregnancy. Only then, only when it’s a done deal, would your company accept this fact.”

Lew Qingqing: ”But I could let others know, couldn’t I? Why must it be you?”

”The truth is, you came to me under the pretense of seeking help, but in reality, you wanted me to be aware and to spread the word, right?” Zhou Yun shared her guess, ”You couldn’t find anyone else because you were afraid your company would find out before the news became public and force you to abort the child. That’s why you came to me. I have no dealings with your agency, and besides, we’ve had some conflicts. If I were to spread this news, your company’s first reaction would be to suspect me of deliberately slinging mud at you and spreading rumors, not suspecting you were actually pregnant.”

”According to what you’re saying, I should have looked for Su Yan to do this,” Lew Qingqing said.

”You wouldn’t. You and Su Yan are arch-enemies, while I am merely a rival you’ve had conflicts with,” Zhou Yun pointed out clearly. ”But what you didn’t anticipate was that I really didn’t spread the word, so to up the ante, you created another secondary account, pretending to have sent this message to many, and even spread a rumor that a top actress in the circle was pregnant, deliberately pointing the finger at me. You thought that when the finger was pointed at me, I would reveal the truth about your pregnancy in order to clear the rumor, thereby achieving your goal.”

Lew Qingqing didn’t speak.

”But I still didn’t do it,” Zhou Yun continued. ”So you had no choice but to expose yourself. That employee of yours must have been directed by you, otherwise, if it was just a slip-up you gave her, she might not expose it but secretly tell the company instead, there’s that risk. It seems this unlucky employee is actually someone you trust. Only in this way would you dare to let her spread the news of your pregnancy.”

Lew Qingqing let out a cold laugh and said, ”As expected of a top student, what an imagination you have, and you can even justify it.”

”Whether I’m imagining things or telling the truth, you know very well. But Lew Qingqing, the thing I hate most is being used by others. If you don’t want to be stabbed in the back by me at some critical moment like Su Yan did, I hope such an incident does not happen a second time.”

”I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

”I didn’t record this conversation, so that’s all I have to say,” Zhou Yun stated. ”Consider this phone call a warning.”

With that, Zhou Yun hung up the phone.

When exactly did she start feeling that something was amiss?

Now that she thought about it, she already sensed something wrong when Lew Qingqing approached her that time.

Regardless of what Lew Qingqing’s on-screen persona is, reaching her current status today indicates she is not a ’damsel in distress’ to be pushed around.

The pregnancy was not so desperate as to seek her help before anything has gone wrong.

At that time, Zhou Yun had not figured out Lew Qingqing’s purpose.

Only after this series of events did Zhou Yun formulate a hypothesis that tied everything together.

Lew Qingqing was simply buying time for herself.

Her desire to keep the child must be genuine.

Her claim that the company did not want her to keep it must also be true.

As for the rest, half-truths, indiscernible.

Zhou Yun only needed to clarify Lew Qingqing’s true intentions.

She would not allow herself to be used by Lew Qingqing.

After Song Chi returned home, Zhou Yun no longer kept the promise she made earlier and recounted the whole story to him exactly as it happened.

Song Chi came to a realization and also felt incredulous.

”She’s quite cunning.”

Zhou Yun laughed dismissively, ”Good thing Sister Lan has always warned me never to be too kind-hearted. At that moment, I was really moved by compassion. What do you think she would have done if I had indeed agreed to help her conceal her pregnancy under the guise of role preparation?”

Song Chi thought for a moment and said, ”Wouldn’t that be perfect for her? Her intention is to deceive the company and buy herself time. If you had indeed gotten her a role as a pregnant woman, allowing her to conceal her real-life pregnancy, it would have been easier for her.”

Zhou Yun smirked.

”So, if I agreed, it’s to her benefit. If I refused, she still accomplished her goal, letting me know she’s pregnant.”

Song Chi stroked Zhou Yun’s hair and said, ”She misjudged you, thinking you would definitely leak her secret, but you’re a person with high moral integrity, and you truly kept her secret without revealing a single word. It’s just that her calculations were pointless.”

Zhou Yun sighed, ”I’m telling Sister Lan about this tomorrow, and she’s going to lecture me again.”

Song Chi barely held back a laugh, ”That’s because you don’t listen to Sister Lan’s advice.”

Zhou Yun gave a sideways glance, ”You seem pretty happy about that.”

Song Chi shook his head solemnly, ”Of course not.”

”I’m going to join the cast for filming soon,” Zhou Yun said. ”This movie will shoot until next February.”

Song Chi nodded, ”I’ll visit you on set.”

”When ’Heart Inquiry’ airs, I’ll be busy filming and unable to promote it, sorry,” Zhou Yun mentioned. ”I was supposed to support you in the promotion.”

”I’ve already taken a big advantage; the actress who had no signature work before is now a Movie Queen. Your participation is the best promotion,” Song Chi said. ”The team will handle the promotion, you don’t need to worry, just focus on filming.”

”If there’s anything I can do to help, have them contact Sister Lan directly. If there are complications with the company, tell me directly,” Zhou Yun said. ”This is our first project together, and I hope it has a good future.”
