Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 239: Chapter 230: The Taste of Home

Hearing Qian directly say the name of the illness, Teng Daye’s face changed.

”I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

”Reminding you is just my professional habit, nothing else. If I offended you, please don’t mind. My big brother’s car is here, I have to get in.”

”Who exactly are you?” Teng Daye questioned.

”I am the psychologist Chen Xiaoqian, see you later.” After saying that, Qian opened the car door and got in. Once the driver started the car, she closed her eyes and added in a low voice.

”I’m also Yu Minglang’s girlfriend.” This didn’t conflict with her identity as a doctor.

Sitting in the front seat, Yu Mingli had been a silent companion the whole night. Now that there were no outsiders, he finally spoke up.

”Qian, what did you say to Mr. Teng? He looked terrible.”

”Nothing much.”

What Qian was concerned about was how long it would take her to cure Teng Shuixian’s anorexia and whether she could break her past record.

”If this really works out, big brother will credit you first.” Yu Mingli said.

Qian shook her head, ”I’m not just here to help you make money. I genuinely want to help my patients, big brother. I’m a doctor.”

Yu Mingli was amused by her.

”Alright, big doctor, you’re right about everything.”

”Seriously, big brother, you really need to lose weight. You have plenty of money, stop drinking and smoking every day outside. Sister-in-law doesn’t care how much money you make. Being healthy is more important than anything.”

”Tsk, this tone is identical to my grandmother and your sister-in-law.” Yu Mingli said half-jokingly, ”I also want to be healthy, but in this position, socializing is inevitable. We need to work a little harder to keep our family ship more stable.”

”Big brother, you’re just going too far and forgetting your original intention. How much money do you need to buy a healthy body? Spending millions on sister-in-law won’t make her as happy as having a peaceful meal with her.”

”Little girl, now you’re lecturing me.” Big brother laughed, he truly regarded Qian as one of his own now.

After dropping off Qian, the driver asked Yu Mingli.

”Mr. Yu, back to the company?”

The boss was a workaholic, spending almost all his time at the company, sometimes working late into the night.

”Back—wait a moment.” Yu Mingli thought of Qian’s words, suddenly remembering that his wife seemed to be off today, and his sons were also at home.

Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed an envelope in the car, which contained tickets to an amusement park someone had given him. He called his wife on his phone.

”Zhaozhao, what are you doing?”

Sister-in-law was checking the homework of the two sons, and her first instinct upon hearing her husband’s call was that he had forgotten some documents.

”Did you forget something, and want me to bring it to you?”

”Uh, you could say that.”

”Where is it? I will bring it to you.”

”In my heart, Zhaozhao, bring the boys to the amusement park, I’ll be waiting at the entrance. It seems I’ve forgotten about you and the kids.”

Clunk, sister-in-law’s phone dropped on the table.

The twin boys gathered around, ”Mom, what’s wrong?”

”Quick! Change clothes, your dad is taking you out to play!”

”Great!” The two kids cheered enthusiastically.

Hearing the commotion and cheers on the other end of the line, big brother smiled at the dumbfounded driver.

”Being cheesy is contagious, remind me to stay away from that little girl Chen Xiaoqian next time, she’s too sentimental.”

But this feeling wasn’t bad, and his wife’s reaction was indeed happier than when he told her about any big business deals. In the future, he should make some time to spend more with the family.

When Qian got home, Jia Xiufang came up to her.

”Qian’er, have you eaten?”

”I have, but the food wasn’t good, I’m a bit hungry. Mom, can you make me some noodles?”

”Then wait a bit, honestly, not eating properly when you’re out and then coming back to trouble me.” Jia Xiufang complained, but her hands didn’t slow down.

Qian squeezed into the kitchen, helping Jia Xiufang with the vegetables. Because she was clumsy, her mother pushed her aside in annoyance, and Jia Xiufang quickly cooked the noodles by herself.

”Chinese people attach great importance to food, and they are used to asking if you’ve eaten when they meet. Food is fundamental to life. After striving around, having a fortune means nothing if you can’t eat well. Look at how many big bosses appear all mighty outside, but are they really satisfied with their meals?”

Jia Xiufang replied to her daughter while frying the wok, ”How can they not be satisfied? They eat all the delicacies, lobsters and crabs, using Moutai as mouthwash.”

”What you eat isn’t important, it’s about who you eat with. Eating those things every day, with meals feeling like battlegrounds, every word having a deeper meaning, how could they enjoy their food? All big bosses have stomach issues. As for me, I think my mom’s noodles are the best.”

Like Teng Shuixian with so much good food at home yet having anorexia, or big brother who does such big business but has high blood pressure and a bulging belly, are they really happy?

Qian found the food Jia Xiufang made to be flavorful, it was quite good, she felt happy.

”Qian’er, you’re almost 20 years old, yet you can’t cook a single dish. How will you manage when you get married? I’m worried sick, I must teach you well so you don’t end up poisoning Minglang.”

Jia Xiufang sat across from Qian, nagging as Qian slurped her noodles and mumbled.

”Yu Minglang can cook, it’s going to be his job later on.”

”Nonsense, he’s so busy at work, where will he find time to serve you! Just look at your lack of ambition, as a woman, how can you not know how to cook? I have to teach you properly.” Jia Xiufang held a rather traditional view.

”But I can do other things that other women can’t! Mom, don’t worry needlessly. If you don’t believe me, I’ll send a message to Yu Minglang asking if he still wants me even if I can’t cook?”

”You’re shameless, eat more!” Jia Xiufang pushed the plate of vegetables towards Qian, thinking her daughter was just teasing.

”Actually, whether the food tastes good isn’t important, what’s important is who accompanies you while eating. The flavor of home is invaluable. Mom, did your family also have meals together with everyone when you were young?”

”Yes, your grandma was biased from the start. When a large family gathered for meals, and there were nice dishes like meat and eggs for the New Year, she would prepare two plates. For your uncles, it was always with eggs and meat, and for me and her side, without. Back then those were luxuries, yet in the end, her two sons were not as reliable as I was.”

Now the old lady still lies upstairs, and Uncle’s family came over to put on a show. After finalizing the house and inheritance split arrangements with Jia Xiufang, the family left again.

”Did they handle the house situation as I suggested?”

”Yes, when you weren’t home, Uncle’s second child came over, just as Minglang’s lawyer friend also came. Both your cousins almost knelt before me, and we made a notarization, with both me and your uncle putting our handprints. From now on, as you said, everyone will take turns taking care of your grandma. Money will be frozen, the house profit split equally, and your uncle will send money every month.”
