Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 207: Chapter 207: Who Saved Whom? (Birthday Extra)

”Hey boss, what just happened?” Qiao Zhen asked.

”We just found out that Mei’s roommate was missing. Following the clues, we came here and found the criminal committing a crime. We were attacked, and in self-defense, we—”

Yu Minglang turned around and saw the man who wanted to kill and burn the body clutching his scalded arm, lying on the ground and writhing in pain. He added:

”While rescuing the hostage, we had a fight with him, causing him to crash into the boiler.”

Yes, that’s exactly how it was, nothing wrong with that.

Mr. Yu is the kind of man who’s as frightening when he’s angry as he is gentle on a normal day.

Plainclothes officers and school leaders arrived almost simultaneously. Qiao Zhen stayed to cooperate with the investigations, and the criminal was brought to justice.

Meanwhile, Dong Yi was urgently taken to the hospital for emergency treatment, suffering from a concussion and external cranial trauma. She got some stitches and had a patch of her hair shaved off. She was still in a coma, and Yu Mingyi, Qian, and Yu Minglang watched over her.

Just before dawn, Dong Yi woke up and saw several people sitting by her bedside. She instantly noticed her uncle.

”Why am I here?” she tried to remember but found her mind completely blank.

”Dong Yi, how are you feeling now?” Yu Mingyi asked quickly upon seeing she was awake.

His anxious expression became the first thing Dong Yi saw upon waking up. She couldn’t remember anything that had happened; her head hurt immensely, and the anesthetic from the stitches seemed not to have worn off, affecting her thoughts.

”I feel a bit dizzy. What happened...”

Dong Yi couldn’t remember anything. Her last memory was watching a performance at the little theater, and she couldn’t recall the encounter with the criminal at all.

They couldn’t even take her statement.

Doctors said it’s possible to lose some memory after getting hit on the head. She might remember in a few days or might never recall it, given the concussion.

Qian thought about using hypnosis to help Dong Yi recall some memories, but the Yu brothers disagreed, especially Yu Mingyi, who was firmly against it.

Dong Yi had just recovered from sleepwalking. If those terrifying memories were recalled, she might develop PTSD. The treatment would be troublesome, not to mention the pain Dong Yi would endure. Let’s just leave it forgotten.

The evil man who attempted to commit rape, murder, and arson would face strict legal consequences. Since the matter was now settled, it didn’t matter if Dong Yi couldn’t remember.

Qian simply told Dong Yi she had stumbled and hit her head while going downstairs. Dong Yi touched the bare spot on her head where the hair was shaved, wanting to cry but having no tears. Was this how her uncle and the others saw her?

Dong Yi’s injury wasn’t too serious. With slight intracranial bleeding, she needed to stay in the hospital for observation for two days. Qian and Shi Yu took turns accompanying her. Dong Yi, unaware she had brushed with death, worried about when the bald patch on her head would grow back and feared the hospital bill would be too expensive.

Qian reassured her by saying the insurance she got upon enrollment would cover it, which calmed her down. In reality, the cost was personally covered by Mr. Yu, as injuries from an assault couldn’t be reimbursed, and the expense would later be included in the criminal’s mandatory civil damages.

Although Qian and Yu Minglang’s dating plans fell through, rescuing Dong Yi from a life-threatening situation was worthwhile.

As dawn approached, Yu Minglang and Qiao Zhen had to return to their units. Qian saw him to the door, watching him leave.

His departing silhouette was just like in the previous life, but her feelings as she watched were entirely different now.

Next time they met, they’d definitely make up for the missed movie and dinner, Qian thought, and so did Yu Minglang.

Dong Yi stayed in the hospital for almost a week, and Yu Mingyi accompanied her for nearly a week as well.

Coincidentally, he was on vacation during this time. His second brother had more time off, given adjustments made for his non-flying post. He even brought Panpan along to keep Dong Yi company.

Little Panpan now knew Dong Yi even better than Qian, enthusiastically calling her sister. His mispronunciation made him sound just like Dudu.

Shi Touyu had classes, but Qian could skip class to visit. However, upon seeing her second brother and Panpan present with meals pre-arranged, she felt a bit redundant in the ward. She decided to let her brother handle things, occasionally dropping by for a look.

Injuries on the head feel different from injuries elsewhere on the body.

With trauma on the left side of her head, Dong Yi could only lie flat. Moving slightly sent her vision into darkness, requiring someone to assist her. Mr. Yu was quite strong, easily helping her sit up, demonstrating his impressive arm strength.

With a head injury, one couldn’t move around freely, spending most of the time lying down and staring at the ceiling while waiting for time to pass.

Dong Yi was about to be discharged tomorrow, lying in bed and unable to sleep.

Yu Mingyi put Panpan to sleep, while Dong Yi finally summoned the courage to ask the question she’d wanted to for a long time.

”Uncle, have you really decided to quit your job?” If she didn’t ask now, there might not be another chance.

”Maybe I can’t transfer.”

Yu Mingyi thought about how his resignation application had been taken by his mother for some time. His mother hadn’t responded, leaving him just waiting like a suspended sentence.

It seemed his father’s urgent tasks had kept him busy; otherwise, he would’ve come over already to give him a beating for sure, leading to him ultimately compromising.

”I’ve actually thought about it for a long time... Uncle, if you really don’t want to fly anymore, just quit.”

”Hmm?” It’s the first time Yu Mingyi heard someone support his decision.

”Although I think you’re incredibly cool when you’re flying, and I once imagined what you looked like piloting a plane. Initially, I wanted to stop you from resigning because occasionally, I dream of the moment you saved me.”

The heroic feel is absolutely overwhelming. How many men get the chance to fly in the skies? Hearing Mr. Yu wanted to quit, Dong Yi’s first reaction was regret.

”Why do you think I should resign?”

Yu Mingyi’s voice reached outside through the door.

Outside, Mr. Yu’s hand had already rested on the doorknob but paused upon hearing this.

Mrs. Yu stood next to him, holding a soup pot, looking worried.

Both Mr. Yu and Mrs. Yu knew Yu Mingyi was taking care of the little girl he rescued years ago. Mrs. Yu happened to come to pick up Panpan and asked her husband to privately check in on Dong Yi.

The main purpose was still to bring Mr. Yu back home for punishment, holding a grudge over his intention to resign. Mr. Yu had held onto his anger for a long time and finally found time to confront him.

Upon hearing the conversation inside, Mr. Yu’s rage flared again, the little rabbit!

”Being a pilot truly is an excellent profession. Surely a lot of money was spent to train you. I heard from Qian that training a pilot is almost more expensive than building an airplane.”

Qian had explained that training a pilot costs a fortune, so pilots aren’t allowed to resign before a certain period due to the considerable investment involved.

Dong Yi, a frugal child who wouldn’t waste a crumb off her flatbread, was stunned upon hearing about such expenses.
