Chapter 236: Chapter 227: As You Wish (Bonus for 150+ Monthly Votes)

”Qian’er, your uncle is coming today. I’ve made fried meat and smoked chicken legs just for you. Get up and have some.”

”I don’t want any.” The cruelest thing is seeing so much food when you’re already full.

Jia Xiufang didn’t like hearing this and sat on her bed, counting her out.

”Look at you, not tall, and always making a fuss. You’re already not tall and dare to try dieting. You’re a bit overweight now, but that’s better than being blown away by the wind!”

Jia Xiufang thought Chen Xiaoqian was not eating because she wanted to lose weight, and this made Xiaoqian fume.

This is a real mom, truly, because who else would call someone short and then call them fat?

”Mom, I’m not dieting. I’m just full. I ate while I was out.”

”That’s not acceptable. Eat some more.” If the son or daughter doesn’t taste something made at home, the housewife feels empty and incomplete.

Xiaoqian was forced to sit up and reluctantly ate a piece of meat, feeling it stuck in her throat.

”Mom, do you think I inherited my height from you?” Wearing shoes, she claims to be 160cm, but standing next to Yu Minglang, she looks like she’s second-class handicapped.

”Why should girls be so tall anyway? They’re not utility poles.”

Xiaoqian laughed. This is her mom, for sure.

If Teng Shuixian, whom she was meeting tomorrow, had a mom like this, maybe she wouldn’t have such psychological issues.

The next day, Yu Mingli came to pick up Xiaoqian himself. He was silent for several seconds when he saw Xiaoqian’s tracksuit.

”...Do you need me to take you clothes shopping?”

”No need, for today’s occasion, this is the best to wear.”

For a deal worth tens of millions, you’re wearing a tracksuit and calling it the best?

With a stiff smile, Xiaoqian pulled at her clothes. ”Big brother, do you look down on brand names? This is Puma.”

”You think I haven’t seen Puma? The logo of the real brand has the puma leaping upward. Yours is lying down horizontally.”

Wearing a knockoff and feeling so proud about it.

Xiaoqian shrugged. ”I admit, my mom bought this at the night market, 30 yuan a set. Handsome, right?”

Mr. Yu’s mouth twitched as he took Xiaoqian to a boutique before meeting the client. He wanted to buy her a lady’s outfit, but Xiaoqian insisted on sportswear, almost provocative. With a fake Puma, she went to buy the real thing, making the sales assistant smile awkwardly.

”Xiaoqian, if you like this style, let’s buy it, but can you wear it back? Let’s at least check out the lady’s wear section first.” He hadn’t given up trying to persuade her.

Xiaoqian asked the assistant to wrap up her old clothes and gestured to her brother.

”To do a good job, one must have the right tools. This is one of mine. Big brother, don’t you think this outfit makes me seem particularly approachable?”

”I think Mr. Teng might not appreciate us being so ’approachable.’”

”I’m not going to win over Mr. Teng this time. This outfit isn’t for him, get it?”

Get what? Big brother, seasoned in business, felt confusion for the first time. Was it really okay to let Xiaoqian mess with such a big deal?

”Xiaoqian, come clean with me. If you’re not here for Mr. Teng, who are you meeting with?”

”Teng Shuixian, Teng Daye’s only child. If I win her over, this deal will make you full.”

In the reserved room, after waiting a while, Xiaoqian finally saw the super important client Yu Mingli valued so much, Teng Daye.

A man near sixty, dressed very plainly, serious and stern, embodying the Jin merchant’s rigor and subtlety. Behind him was a very thin girl, about twenty years old, with long, shoulder-length hair. This was the focus Xiaoqian mentioned.

Even the girl was wearing the same Puma knockoff as Xiaoqian. When the two girls exchanged glances, the adults accompanying them felt relieved. Because they were unknown to each other, they dressed notably deliberately. Neither girl could fault the other for their casual attire.

Teng Shuixian, one of her past patients from a previous life, suffered from anorexia nervosa, sent to her appearing like a skeleton, also with depression, nauseated at the sight of food.

At this time, it had been a few years since then when Teng Shuixian’s anorexia was not yet as severe in its later stages. Her weight was light but hadn’t reached the emaciated state of later severity.

”Mr. Teng,” Yu Mingli stood up, and Mr. Teng shook his hand.

The two corporate heads exchanged pleasantries while Teng Shuixian’s gaze wandered, eventually settling on Xiaoqian, choosing to sit beside her without a word.

”Having Mr. Teng here really isn’t easy. Mr. Teng has been quite busy.” Yu Mingli welcomed his important guest to sit, catching glimpses of Xiaoqian out of the corner of his eye.

Xiaoqian smiled at Teng Shuixian, who glanced at her, ”Was that from you yesterday?”

”Yes, do you like it?”

The gift Xiaoqian had her big brother deliver was a Nine Linked Rings, not worth much, but it was Teng Shuixian’s favorite item.

”Can you really solve it in six minutes?”

Xiaoqian shrugged, ”I can, though it’s been a while, so I’m a bit rusty, but six minutes should be about right. If my master were here, he’d solve it in four.”

Her master was none other than Yu Minglang.

In her past life, Yu Minglang was crazy about it. Xiaoqian learned from him firsthand, learning every trick he taught, though her fingers weren’t as agile, so her speed could never match his.

”You’re kidding. The current world record is just over three minutes.”

”Watch me do it and see if I’m kidding. I don’t lie.”

Yu Minglang was a low-profile person. His identity wouldn’t allow him to apply for a Guinness World Record, but his speed in solving was indeed close to the record. Solving it was essentially a binary counting process, where Yu Minglang’s mind excelled.

Seeing his daughter being able to chat with Xiaoqian, Teng Daye seemed surprised. His daughter was highly introverted, almost never starting conversations with others.

Yu Mingli laughed, ”It seems my sister-in-law and your daughter have a great connection.”

”Your sister-in-law?”

”Yes, she’s Chen Xiaoqian, who—”

”I am a psychologist.” Xiaoqian smiled at Teng Daye.

Teng Daye’s eyes narrowed slightly, looking between Xiaoqian and Yu Mingli, assessing Xiaoqian warily. Why would Mr. Yu bring a psychologist here? Could they know something?

If so, that would be too frightening. Yu Mingli was someone Teng Daye couldn’t afford not to be cautious of. His daughter’s issues were a family secret.

If it wasn’t for Teng Shuixian’s insistence on coming, Teng Daye would never attend such a clearly ambiguous, profit-laden gathering.

”It’s quite a coincidence. At last month’s Nine Linked Rings competition in the province, I happened to be there and saw Miss Teng’s splendid performance. I wanted a friendly contest but hadn’t registered, and there were too many people that day, so it didn’t happen. Luckily, my big brother said he had some rapport with Mr. Teng, so I boldly invited Miss Teng today, hoping to fulfill this desire. Today, we’re only here to play games, not talk business. Mr. Teng, you wouldn’t mind, would you?”

What Xiaoqian said made perfect sense, and avoiding business talk was exactly what Teng Daye wanted.
