Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 215: Chapter 215: Who Is the Benefactor? (1,750 Monthly Votes Bonus)

Qian was hesitant, which made Zheng Xu upset and point at her, ”I’ve misjudged you!”

Qian was both amused and annoyed; her plan was disrupted by this guy, yet he acted like she was the one disappointing him!

The two stood before the frozen lake, with Zheng Xu more agitated, attracting the attention of several passersby.

Yu Minglang’s company had a project near the park; he was here for an inspection, and it happened to be break time, so many of his colleagues were around.

”Manager, this car is blocking our way. I’ll try to find the owner—what’s the deal with that couple over there?” an employee asked the deputy general manager, Zhu Dexi, beside him.

Zhu Dexi took a glance at the ice, unsure if it was a normal couple’s quarrel or a potential suicide pact. From his angle, both Zheng Xu and Qian were standing on the ice.

”Let’s go check it out.”

”Do you need any help?”

Zhu Dexi approached and asked Qian and Zheng Xu.

Qian turned around and saw a man in a suit. She was taken aback. Could this be her real benefactor?

The man appeared to be about 175-178 cm tall, of average build, wearing glasses, and seemed very refined.

Qian couldn’t remember the face of her benefactor, but the attire matched. That little girl just said a big brother in a suit bought it; it could very well be him!

Scanning the park, there weren’t many people in suits.

Qian stared at Zhu Dexi, making him a bit uncomfortable. Being looked at by such a pretty girl would make any man’s heart speed up.

Zheng Xu noticed Qian’s gaze was off and asked her.

”Do you know him?”

”I—”

”Mei!”

At the sound of a delighted shout, everyone turned to see Yu Minglang happily running over.

Running in a suit looks perfectly normal, just like that—smooth and slick.

”Xiaoqiang?!” Qian was dumbfounded.

Wasn’t he busy? How did he suddenly appear here?

The situation was a bit chaotic now: the man suspected to be her benefactor, her good friend Zheng Xu, and her Xiaoqiang all appearing together; it was completely different from her past life events.

”Lao Zhu, what are you doing here?” Yu Minglang asked Zhu Dexi.

”Wang just said there’s a car blocking ours, so I came to check—do you know them?”

Zheng Xu heard about the car blocking the road and looked towards the riverside, realizing it was his car.

Yu Minglang was joyfully looking at his Mei, her face flushed with cold, standing next to an eyesore, Zheng Xu. Yu Minglang mentally blurred Zheng Xu, pretending not to see him.

Zheng Xu was irked by Yu Minglang, especially the sickening affectionate glances between him and Qian.

”That’s my car. I’ll move it. Mr. Chen, see you later.” Zheng Xu said to Qian.

Yu Minglang feigned surprise, ”Ah, isn’t this Mr. Zheng? What a coincidence.”

Pretending to have just noticed him.

Zheng Xu glanced at him, ”Mr. Yu, if you don’t have the time to accompany Mr. Chen and let her be so upset, don’t hog the resources and waste them.”

Qian’s ”suicidal” intentions, Zheng Xu believed, were all Yu Minglang’s fault.

Yu Minglang originally disliked him, and hearing him pretend to lecture triggered him, counting on his fingers as he spoke.

”Which eye of yours saw my Mei upset? And you think you’re what?”

Zheng Xu, normally not impulsive, was shocked by Qian’s actions today. He suddenly swung a fist, hitting Yu Minglang on the shoulder.

Yu Minglang, gazing lovingly at Qian, was thrilled to see her while working. Unexpectedly, Zheng Xu sucker-punched him without warning, catching him off guard.

Furious, Yu Minglang was about to hit back when Zhu Dexi hurriedly restrained him.

”Yu, talk it out! Watch the impact!”

”Damn it, Zheng Xu, wait for me. When I’m off, I’ll beat you until your dad can’t recognize you!” Yu Minglang knew the repercussions of attacking Zheng Xu in public would be too negative.

”If I’m afraid, I’m a coward. See you at the family compound garage on New Year’s Eve!” Zheng Xu growled.

Qian was speechless. ”Can’t you guys stop? It’s New Year’s; if you must arrange something, don’t let it be a fight...”

Zheng Xu cast one last look at Qian, eyes full of disappointment, and turned to leave.

Yu Minglang mentally flipped off his back, feeling if he weren’t currently on business, he’d toss Zheng Xu into the frozen lake.

”Lao Zhu, this is my girlfriend, Chen Xiaoqian. Qian, this is our company’s deputy general manager.”

Yu Minglang was the general manager, focused on business, while Zhu Dexi, whom Yu brought over, was in charge of internal affairs and was a close confidant from his previous job, quite loyal.

Zhu Dexi was gentle and principled, while Yu Minglang was bold and masculine; though they occasionally disagreed on methods, they worked well together. Yu had the merit of focusing on issues rather than people; despite thinking Zhu was too strict, he respected his work ability, making him the perfect person for the role.

”Hello.” Qian stared at Zhu Dexi, trying to find any familiar feeling but remembered nothing.

”Nice to meet you. I should treat you to a meal, but work’s not done. Let’s find another time. Yu, catch up with your girlfriend and I’ll check on the client representative,” said Zhu Dexi, lowering his voice at the end.

”There’s a small grove over there; not many people.”

Yu nudged him with his elbow, ”Got it. Hurry and leave; with you here, my girlfriend and I can’t even speak.”

Walking ahead of Qian off the ice, they moved to the not-too-crowded grove. Seeing no one, he embraced Qian.

”Mei, you have a day off today, huh? That’s nice.”

”Yeah, I know you’re busy, so Hai Zhao picked me up. What are you doing here?”

”We’ve got a project nearby. The client was fussy and wanted to see the scenery, so I took a walk with them.”

Yu Minglang kept looking Qian up and down, especially her lips, longing to kiss them after so long, yet mindful of appearances.

”That man earlier is your deputy general manager?”

”Yeah, an old-fashioned sort, nags all day. Sometimes I just want to put a bag over his head and punch him. But he’s good at his job; I poached him from my old job. Giving up a secure position to follow me makes him pretty loyal.”

Yu hoped to chat with Qian, but her focus was still on the man who might be her benefactor, Zhu Dexi.

”Xiaoqiang, how many of you are wearing suits? I mean, in this park.”
