Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

”Joshua Hughes, I always feel that life here is the real life I belong to—simple, ordinary, where even dinner is resolved in such a straightforward manner. Your life seems so far away from me.” Avery Jane opened the car window, watching the people bustling about outside, young girls haggling with shopkeepers in street stores, couples in love sharing a candied hawthorn stick, mouthful by mouthful—this is life. Real, ordinary, and beautiful.

In her life, she never worries about any of her affairs because he has arranged everything for her—from clothes to shoes and jewelry matching, from the style and color of underwear to various seasonal high-fashion catalogs delivered to her home. If she glances at any of it, soon it will appear in her dressing room according to her size. The fruit she eats, the water she drinks, even a paper napkin has its importance; the bottles and jars on the dressing table, even if she can’t understand them, she knows they’re invaluable. Of course, she’s not someone who cannot enjoy life, but she always feels like it’s a mirage. She seems like such an ordinary person, yet the life she lives now is anything but ordinary, all gifted by this man.

Cinderella’s fairy tale is beautiful, but in reality, can she really continue living happily with the prince in the castle?

”It’s not just your life now; it’s our life, Avery, remember we are a unity.” Joshua Hughes held the steering wheel with one hand, reaching over to clasp her hand tightly with the other, wishing to pass this stable, warm conviction through the warmth of his hand.

Avery Jane looked outside the window, people coming and going, his hand carrying a scorching warmth that warmed her heart.

In Avery Jane’s current dreams, it’s all about Joshua Hughes.

Her eyes shimmering like a pool of spring water, her pearly teeth biting her lip as she gazes at him in the darkness, intoxicated with her mind and soul...

After a long time...

Avery Jane was so exhausted that she could hardly keep her eyes open, while Joshua Hughes held her tightly, gently caressing her belly. He’s tried so hard, yet there’s still no news?

The enormous fear of possibly losing her made him always live in perpetual anxiety. Now they must have a child, preferably two, or even more—it doesn’t matter. Then she won’t be able to leave...

”Avery, how about we go to the hospital for a check-up tomorrow?” Joshua Hughes said with a hint of worry; whether she can have children doesn’t really matter to him—what he cares about is if they have children, then when she remembers everything, at least he would still have a bit of leverage to discuss it with her, right? She is a soft-hearted person, unlikely to give up her children, if not because of love for him, at least she would stay for their child, wouldn’t she? Joshua Hughes spoke softly into the night, seeking her consent but filled with bitterness and unease in his heart. Such a beautiful life, beautiful as if it were a dream—that’s why he fears losing it even more...

”Why...” Avery’s voice was muddled, she didn’t want to move at all, letting him gently stroke her back. Joshua kissed her sweat-damped forehead: ”Just to check when we can have a child. I wonder if I’m not trying hard enough.” Joshua said, feigning lightheartedness.

”You’re trying too hard.” Avery raised her hand, lightly tapping his solid chest—this bit of force was nothing to Joshua Hughes.

”There’s no need; let nature take its course. Haven’t you seen many reports saying that nowadays white-collar workers are stressed at work, and even with good health are tense to the point of infertility.” Avery feels her health is quite good, he probably wouldn’t have any problems either. If he does have problems, she wouldn’t know how others could live. Even if they haven’t compared, just listening to Emma White discussing practical experiences in the office, Joshua Hughes is beyond what could be described as terrifying.

”Of course, if we have no problems, we can let things happen naturally. But first, we need to make sure there really are no problems.” His large hand clasped her waist, pressing her against him. Avery slightly opened her eyes: ”If you don’t disturb me at night, let me sleep well, then I’ll go tomorrow...”

Indeed, feeling refreshed after a good sleep is wonderful; looking in the mirror in the morning, her complexion rosy and glowing like a flower nourished by rain and dew. She wondered if complimenting herself counted as vanity? Now she seems to be paying more attention to herself—could it be because she fears he might glance at other women? Avery Jane didn’t know, but regardless, being attractive to those who appreciate you isn’t wrong, right?

The doctor was already waiting at the examination room door—a female doctor in her forties with a friendly smile.

”Mrs. Hughes, please follow me inside.” The female bodyguard also went into the examination room. Joshua Hughes said they both would get checked—in reality, he had no issues, but claiming they would both get checked made Avery less resistant and fearful.

”There aren’t any major problems, no need to worry. It’s just that Mrs. Hughes has some chill in her womb; regulating your diet should make conceiving easier.” The doctor smiled while telling Joshua Hughes, who had been waiting for the test results, allowing him to breathe a sigh of relief as he noted the doctor’s advice.

Avery Jane tidied her clothes and came out, Joshua Hughes approached to gently embrace her: ”Avery, there’s no problem; looks like I was worrying too much.”

Avery gave him a glance, her expression saying—see, I was right. ”Hurry, I only asked for an hour off.”

As she spoke, she held Joshua’s hand, pulling him out; she didn’t want to be late or ask for leave frequently—it wouldn’t look good.

In the corridor, a young intern doctor walked by, tall and slim, wearing a lab coat, black shoes, and black-framed glasses with a gentle smile. Suddenly dizzy, Avery almost couldn’t stand—the familiar feeling mixed with heartache surged overwhelmingly, her rosy face instantly turning pale.

”Avery, what’s wrong, where does it hurt?” Joshua Hughes immediately noticed Avery’s anomaly, her body stiffened, standing motionless, her little hands in his palm becoming nervously cold. Her mind seemed to detach from her body, her gaze following the young man in the lab coat drifting away...

Joshua Hughes enfolded her tightly in his arms, exuding a strong, warm, and secure masculine aura along with his unique light musk scent. Avery nestled on his chest, feeling his powerful heartbeat, gradually returning to her senses: ”I don’t know, just now it seemed I recognized him...” She murmured incoherently, somewhat afraid, a tiny needle-like pain pricking in her heart.

”It’s alright, Avery, don’t be scared.” Joshua Hughes held her close to his chest, his eyes locked onto the distant back, icy cold and sharp like a knife.

Even if you say you’re dead, if you’re alive, she can only be mine...
