Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

”We’ve gone bankrupt, bankrupt, do you understand? Today someone played a big trick on the stock index, and I have lost every penny...”

These past few days he had been playing quite well. Yesterday, some of his friends in finance mentioned some insider information, and by following their intel, he had tasted quite a bit of profit. This time, he took the liberty to invest all available company cash, only to have things turn upside down once the market opened. It was a true bloodbath, unavoidable, a terrifying disaster yet one caused by man.

No need to guess who it was, for Evelyn was kicked out, and Joshua Hughes publicly declared no form of cooperation with the Yates Family, essentially blocking and sealing off their company business. Now, they don’t have liquid cash, and he also owes the investment company a huge amount. Leverage can maximize profits but conversely can ruin someone beyond recovery. He’s truly finished this time.

”What are you afraid of? There’s someone who can save you.” Evelyn Yates seemed detached, coldly observing everything around her.

”Who? Joshua Hughes? Impossible, he’s the one who wants us dead.” Brian Yates’ eyes brightened momentarily before darkening again. Besides, why would Joshua Hughes help them? Even if he dug a deadly pit, he greedily jumped into it himself.

”Of course not. He’s a cold-blooded devil, but he has a vulnerable spot, and that’s Avery Jane.” She articulated each word chillingly.

By today, Evelyn Yates had to admit, even if unwillingly, that Joshua Hughes truly fell for Avery Jane. All his thoughts centered around that woman.

”Avery Jane, wasn’t she missing?” Brian Yates nearly jumped up, asking anxiously; he had been searching for her for quite some time.

”Of course not, she’s at Hughes Clan. But meeting her will be difficult; Joshua Hughes treats her like a treasure, shielding her layer upon layer. If she is willing to ask Joshua Hughes, then all problems would be resolved. Whether she will cherish old feelings is another matter. Even if my brother loved her, sacrificing his life, he could never surpass the Hughes Family’s background, right?” Evelyn Yates smiled coldly, brushing her belly where the little one inside increasingly liked to move. How interesting.

The Hughes Family owed her, and someone would reclaim it for her.

”Impossible, Avery Jane truly loves my brother.” Brian Yates simply didn’t believe it, as Avery Jane wasn’t a materialistic girl.

”Whether possible or not, they are living together now. Go and try, brother; good luck. Also, Avery Jane and my brother have some photos in my room you can take, see if they’ll move her heart. Also, a girl’s diary—it’s Avery’s, you might like it.” Brian Yates would definitely seek out Avery Jane. Evelyn Yates smiled as she headed upstairs since now the Yates Family had only him as a son, this burden naturally falling upon him.

Second brother, I truly wish you luck because crossing Joshua Hughes might cost you your life.

In the parking lot, the lights shone brightly, casting an illuminating glow on the understated yet extravagant black business car.

The car window was open, the man sitting in the driver’s seat propped an arm against the window, inhaling a puff of smoke, slowly closing his eyes.

His dense lashes covered the complex emotions in his eyes. White smoke slowly exhaled from his thin lips, lazily and seductively drawing one’s gaze and piquing interest. As he tilted his head, his defiant, angular jaw seemed rigorously determined. With two shirt buttons undone, his robust Adam’s apple and sexy collarbone were accentuated by the light, exuding the essence of a mature man—a confusing allure, irresistibly inviting closeness, possession, exclusivity...

Almost twenty minutes late, Avery Jane really had to rush; afternoon had grown colder, making her shed her vain desire to wear skirts.

Racing to the parking lot, her exclusive spot was spacious, not only featuring her car but also two for her bodyguards who rarely kept such close watch. Recently, things seemed especially busy, nearly leaving them glued to her side.

A guard occupied each car, while another stood by the car door. His car sat parked not far away, he inside, her heart racing twice as fast from afar, glimpsing his slightly furrowed brow and closed eyes; dense, long lashes, his smoke-exhaling form tinged with melancholy and decadence. Was he mad? With so much happening lately, how was she supposed to know a boss as lofty as him would be more leisurely than her, finishing work even earlier?

Picking up her pace, she jogged forward, eager to reach him; she loved the safety and familiarity of his scent, she couldn’t resist...

Her steps light, even with eyes closed, he could picture her; long hair bouncing gently behind her as she ran, enchanting like musical notes jumping. Joshua Hughes opened his eyes, streams like flowing light crossing his deep pupils. Her clean face, long hair in a high ponytail bouncing in back, large almond-shaped eyes sparkling with jewel-like brilliance—she was like a mountain stream’s clear spring, pure and transparent, untouched by worldly filth.

”Sorry, I’m late.” Avery Jane climbed into the car, embarrassedly sticking out her tongue.

”You’re the first to make me wait almost half an hour. Avery, how should I punish you?” Joshua Hughes’ deep voice didn’t convey dissatisfaction. He was just teasing her, wasn’t he?
